Silver Dollar City (SDC) Discussion Thread
Swoosh replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I get my information from a credible source and we'll leave it at that. While I said no new flat, there will be a considerable amount of infrastructure work done. The restroom renovation project will continue and some other things that will be announced later -- I heard March. WoF did not add any new attractions (read rides) in: 1981, 1985, 1999*, 2003, 2007? *Grand Prix Raceway was added this year and is an 'upcharge' ride. -

^No, SFStL has not officially announced their coaster yet. The only "new" thing that I can say anything about is the fact that White Water has launched a new website for Kalani Towers. It is not sounding very promising for any new flat at WoF this season though. -

The problem with a ride like that in that location would be that it would be impossible to construct a berm so that you could not see out of the park. SDC had enough trouble with Grand Expo. They had to build a large wall on the north end of the expansion to keep park patrons from being able to see Rt 76 from inside the park. -

I was thinking the same thing -- only I think that one was supposed to be a Topple Tower (which I am glad they did NOT go with). -

You know I had honestly forgot that LC had a Screamin' Swing. What model is it? (passenger #) -

Well you can expect the barn to be right next to the railroad, or on the hill opposite from FITH. I would imagine that the Hegee towers will be to the left of the barn when facing it as there is not much room to the right between the barn and the building for Lost River. -

Your favorite coaster tunnel
Swoosh replied to chavslayer's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Personally I love both Zambezi Zinger's and Orient Express's tunnels the best. Zambezi Zinger finished with a crazy long tunnel that took you to a sudden stop at the end of the ride. Orient Express on the other hand started with a tunnel which led to the chain lift -- which was a very neat effect and one that is missed dearly. ---- Now that I think about it, would Expedition Everest count? I like going backwards through it. -

But then again, you have to ask yourself is it worth it to even attempt to "fix" the ride when the chances that it will be "fixed" are not that high to begin with? I say take down the ride, donate the wood to Habitat for Humanity, write it off as a donation and be done with the thing. -
New rides for Celebration City in 2007!
Swoosh replied to Shavethewhales's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
They did not go into detail on whether or not it would be a major thrill ride or not, but yes one will be located where Chaos was -- actually they were supposed to add a ride there last year but for some reason they had to cut that from budget. As far as why they removed it, the park is quote "not at liberty to discuss it at this time." However they did have to have it worked on there the season before it was removed. -
New rides for Celebration City in 2007!
Swoosh replied to Shavethewhales's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
One is a replacement for Chaos. I'm pretty sure Martha and Crystal said the other one was a kiddie ride. REMEMBER they stated that ALL of the rides in the Grand Expo were FAMILY rides. Mum is the word from the park right now, however most of the staff is on vacation as they have been going pretty much 6 days a week since Mid-March. Still waiting on dates for Media Day for GIANT Swing. However they gave a ball park guess for close to Opening Day. -
Letter from Cedar Fair

There in point is the problem I was talking about. I do realize there ARE some teens and tweens out there that CAN and DO write in legible terms when making a post. However, for every one of you there are at least fifteen or more that do not care. -

Oh really, that is not what I have heard from "inside sources" (as you say) at the park. PM me as I am curious who your "inside sources" are. -

As a teacher, I am horrified by the grammar, or lack thereof, in that letter. However, as many of you have pointed out, children today do not know how to compose a formal letter. The age of internet has became a toxin where shorthand has become the norm. You should see some of the papers that my students have turned in -- granted I am not the English teacher, I teach band and a general music course -- some of those papers have AIM shorthand. *sigh* What has this world come to? I do applaud Stacey (who happens to be a very nice lady) on giving the letter the time of day. I know several people within the chain that wouldn't have even bothered replying. -

Orient Express
Swoosh replied to christianscoasters's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Spinning Dragons does not occupy any of the space that the Orient Express occupied and neither does Patriot. Spinning Dragons is located completely to the south of the Orient Express station, whereas the OExpress was located completely to the north. The only thing that you MIGHT be able to argue that the two occupy is the that the break run for OExpress would come quite close to SD's first drop. As for Patriot, it is located completely across the access maintenance road from where Orient Express was. Have you even been to the park? Google Earth the park for yourself and see what we we are talking about. Here are two photos of OExpress that I found -- is that a good enough POV for those who have not seen it first hand? -

Actually the entrance to the Great Barn area will be next to Aunt Polly's Restaurant in Tom Sawyer landing and will run on the opposite side of the train tracks from FITH -- basically between the tracks and Lost River. You can see where the entrance will be in photo 1 of my latest update on MiG.
