Question about the Tax Rebate that is coming to Taxpayers
ernierocker replied to spaceace12's topic in Random, Random, Random
This tax rebate has nothing to do with your tax refund. If you qualify, you will get the rebate regardless of what your tax refund is. I believe you would of had to of filed your taxes last year (for the 2006 tax year) to receive the rebate. Hope this helps. -

She definitely deserves to win. Congrats! I am glad to see the movie nominated multiple times. I thought every aspect of it was top-notch, including the screenplay. -

We got the black ice this morning. There were 200+ car wrecks in about a two hour period in Knox County alone. -
What movies are YOU looking forward to in 2008?
ernierocker replied to Broadwayboy2007's topic in Random, Random, Random
I always use Movies.com to keep up with what is being released in the next couple of months. If you click on MORE! it will give you every movie that is being filmed, in production, pre-production, and even movies that the director just scribbled the idea down on a napkin. -

^Agreed about Ellen Page. I was really happy to hear that Juno has gotten a wide release. -

They will be fixing this problem when they complete the loop over the off-season. I agree with you though. The layout of the park currently is annoying for walking distances.

Opryland U.S.A.
ernierocker replied to montezooma's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Yes, Count Chocula was a mascot as well! General Mills was a sponsor of the park and they had the mascots from their cereal brands show up in the kiddie area. I know I have my picture with the Honey Nut Cheerios Bee somewhere. -

Gaylord Entertainment stated they closed the park because it was losing too much money. Same old song and dance. This was my childhood park, so I really appreciate you taking the time to put this together. It really was a shame that Gaylord couldn't of just sold the park off instead of paving it. They always seemed to care more about the hotel than the park. When they built the final conservatory, any chance of expanding the park was cut off. -

First Thanksgiving with the wife's family. We are going to Kingston, TN. The rest of the weekend I will be keeping a 5 mile radius from myself and any mall in Knoxville.

You can not go wrong with barbecue in Craftman's Valley. We have tried to go to a different place to eat each time, because there is SO many great places to eat there. That being said, I could eat that barbecue every time! I really enjoyed your report. You really covered the whole park well. I am definitely going to go to Dollywood at least one more time before the year is out, so maybe we can arrange a mini-TPR get together.

I'd like to add to your response to coasters 4 me. I am not sure how Engineering programs work in other countries, but for the United States, most Civil Engineering Firms require engineers to have their "Engineers in Training" (EIT) Certificate. In most cases, graduating engineers will take the Fundamentals of Engineering exam the same semester they graduate and if you pass, you receive your EIT. I am not sure how this works internationally though. I know if you pass the FE exam anywhere in the United States, your EIT certificate is good in any state. If you do not have any type of program like this where you are from, you might want to consider joining a Graduate School program somewhere in the United States. Most programs have an internship associated with it where you can get your feet wet in the field. As far as demand goes in the United States. Civil Engineers are in high demand wherever you have growing urban areas. (i.e. Atlanta, Dallas, Las Vegas, the whole state of California)

My advice is to do an internship or a co-op in college. Especially in my field, engineering, hands-on experience is very valuable. I had a good education in college, but really for what I am doing today, I am not using much of it. Also, with an internship, you get a chance to do some networking and meet people in the field you are interested in. College is the best place to meet employers. Go to college career days.

.:: Penn State Student - Theme Park Study
ernierocker replied to a topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
No. In my opinion, it doesn't seem necessary. I agree with hyyyper. Families have had their own system in place that for years has worked just fine. I don't think that this has really been that big of a problem at theme parks either. I'm sure kids get lost, but they are always located without having to track them. Of course, I am saying this without being a parent. -

I'll do a top 3. 1) Montu, Busch Gardens Africa 2) Batman the Ride, Six Flags Great America 3) Hangman, Opryland I'm sure I'll have to knock Hangman out after 2008. Edit: Sorry to insult B&M by putting a Vekoma in their thread. -
Although, I believe your comments were hopefully a bit tongue and cheek, what it is important to understand is that these people DO have private lives. I've noticed that some people reading this site seem to forget that. From what I gather, they do this trip every year, and they probably just didn't want the added stress by trying to organize it as an "official" TPR trip. Are you jealous because they invite their friends to go to dinner with them on an average night? Or should they check with the board first to see if that would hurt anybody feelings? Okay, my two cents just ran out. That being said, I really enjoyed reading this update!

Good luck on losing weight! So, what is your main course of action? Are you going to try a specific diet or exercise to lose the weight?

Thanks, I'll check them out.

^^Yes, you roll it over. As long as you are 100% vested in the old one, you can transfer all of the money in your old 401K into your new 401K. Ask your Human Resources people at work or the investment company that your 401K is through how to do it.

How did you end up here???
ernierocker replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I found this site a long time ago, well before the forum. (Probably around 2001 maybe) I was searching for roller coaster sites, mainly looking for pictures of different theme parks I hadn't been to. The only pictures I could really find would be publicity/promotional shots. There were very few amateur photos that existed over the internet and that is what I really wanted to see. For example, I had seen "the picture" of the Loch Ness Monster, but what I really wanted to see was pictures of other parts of the ride or from other angles. I really liked this site from the first time I found it and immediately bookmarked it waiting for another trip report to be added. I liked how Robb and Elissa really captured the atmosphere at the parks and gave you a much more complete picture of what each park had to offer. Plus, there were so many parks all on one site. -
Good stuff in here. I am definitely going to take some notes from this thread. My first goal when I am able to start investing is to start a mutual fund. I had one before I bought the house, and it sure was nice having. I used Fidelity because that is what my parents were using and they set mine up. It seemed to do really well for what I put into it. I am the most familiar with Fidelity funds but I am open to other companies. Any suggestions? I don't really have a set plan once I have a mutual fund established. I need to do a lot of research over the next year.
