The Ark Encounter to Open July 2016 http://www.cincinnati.com/story/news/arkencounter/2015/11/11/answers-genesis-ark-encounter-opening-date-announcement-coming-thursday/75586608/ "WILLIAMSTOWN, Ky. - The organization building a life-sized replica of Noah's ark here in rural Grant County announced Thursday morning that it will be opening on July 7, 2016. Answers in Genesis, which also built and operates the Creation Museum in Petersburg, Ky., scheduled the opening date as a reference to Genesis 7:7, which reads, "And Noah and his sons and his wife and his sons’ wives with him went into the ark to escape the waters of the flood." The $92 million project, all covered with private money, loans and advance ticket sales, has had its ups and downs, but the structure - which will be 510 feet long, 50 feet tall and 85 feet wide - is well underway. Construction on the outer part is set to finish this month before the winter hits, allowing for the exhibits to be built inside. The ark will be the largest wood timber structure in the world when completed."It's rare that a conservative Christian organization would try to create a world-class attraction such as this, but that's exactly what we think we have here," said Answers in Genesis co-founder and chief executive officer Ken Ham. Presale tickets will be available starting on Jan. 19, and there will be separate day and night sessions for 40 days after the grand opening to meet the anticipated demand in the first months afterward. Animals, furniture and other objects are being made in a warehouse in Hebron for a 510-foot-long replica of Noah's Ark that is being in Williamstown, Ky. The Enquirer/Cara Owsley The concept has faced its share of obstacles and controversy. The state of Kentucky initially promised $18 million in tax incentives, but then backed out of that deal over concerns that AIG will discriminate against non-Christians in its hiring practices. That spurred a lawsuit that is still awaiting a judge's decision.Grant County and Williamstown combined to create tax incentives, giving the ark a 75 percent rebate on any new tax dollars created by the development. Still, the two entities would get more than $60,000 in new tax revenues annually from the ark, which sits on nearly 900 acres of former farmland. AIG also plans to expand the park over the next 5-10 years to include a replica of the Tower of Babel as well as a water-based tour through the history of the Bible."

This is my biggest issue with World of Color also. I *like* the show enough to put about 5 minutes worth of effort into if I could walk up and stand there and watch it, or even walk up halfway through and watch part of it, but it's that commitment of time that I just don't think the show is really worth. Yep--this is the main reason I've never bothered with World of Color--why is this bizarre Fast Pass even necessary? I assume there's some reason I just don't understand. I visited DL before World of Color debuted, but I find it really strange that there's a fastpass required. That would push me from watching the show, honestly. Great report, TomTom! I love the comparisons to WDW and the reviews. Can't wait to read the rest of the report. -Zach

Kings Island (KI) Discussion Thread
PKI Jizzman replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I'm up to see if this would make for a better ride but..........when they took out the loop on Son of beast they used lighter trains. Not a good combination..........Maybe they could have GCI come in and re do it like Ghost rider..... don't plan on it though. I don't see them touching Beast unless maintenance gets to high to maintain it or if not a lot of people ride it. The problem was with the structure and the previous tear from the super heavy Premier trains. The Gerstch trains were still very uncomfortable but they weren't the problem. Of course the park could profit from a re-profiling. They could re-market the ride the same way they're re-marketing Ghostrider. Nothing drastic is happening to the ride in terms of layout or changes, and that's what could draw more fans in. The Beast is arguably one of the more popular roller coasters, especially in the wooden category. -

With the announcement of Knott's taking away the MCBR and re-profiling Ghostrider to give it a breath of fresh air...could we see Cedar Fair doing something similar with the Beast? I know they do preventative maintenance every year and the ride has not been *rough* in about 6 years IMO. There were a few years that I did not ride because of how awful it had gotten. I'm thinking something more along the lines of removing the brakes on: -The first drop -The hill after the turn/tunnel -Straight-away shed brakes before the turn into the 2nd tunnel -2nd lift hill The ride is okay at the moment, but if they could add lighter trains and take away the brakes...that ride would be phenomenal. I really hope this is being talked about in management. I'd fly back home in a heartbeat to experience that! Does that make sense though? Or without the brakes the ride would still be going too fast around to the turns; and the brakes are still necessary? -
The post above really details almost every visit to the park I had this season. Opening day we only rode Am Eagle in the morning and then Viper x2 in the afternoon since the queue is short. Every other time on Saturday or Sunday (regardless of weather in my visits) the park has been slammed and you're lucky to get in more than 3 rides in the first hour. We had a great time at the waterpark - let's face it, they make it difficult to get in there! You either a) have to be a season pass holder or b)you pay to get in the park, then have to pay AGAIN to get into the waterpark! Shoot, worked out for me though. Even on 2 rainy days, the park had full queues for everything. I did not eat any food in the park because I refused to wait in the massive lines for $10+ baskets of fried food. I TRIED to get food at Six Flags St. Louis but couldn't find anyplace open or with a wait less than an hour! I'm in the demo that's a thrill seeker within 30-40 miles. This was my first time owning a season pass and I had to think twice about getting one for next season.

I bought the deluxe pack that got me RCT, RCT2, RCT3, and RCTW. I have never played the RCT2 expansions or RCT3 so I figured I'll have plenty of games to entertain myself while they get the kinks worked out of RCTW. Man, my laptop must be too old for RCTW. It was super laggy and I had similar problems with creating unique features like loops and such. I'll try again the next Beta week or might just wait until the game is finished. It looks pretty and I'm glad to see other's screen shots of finished coasters. Still think RCT2 is the best after trying RCT3 for the first time yesterday.

Dusting off Coaster Works
PKI Jizzman replied to Samuel's topic in Roller Coaster Games, Models, and Other Randomness
Oh WOW. I remember this game! Holy crap what a trip. I totally spent countless hours building stuff on here but don't really remember specific recreations...it was pretty tough for me since I was probably 10 when I had it. -
Aaron, Thanks for posting! Other than the Cabin in the Woods haunted house that USH/USO has put on, this event has gotten my attention the most. The unique Chinese stories that are brought to life look interesting, genuinely scary, and well put together. Appreciate you writing and posting about them! -Zach

Went on Sunday. It was an absolutely perfect day...and combined with the 2016 passes on sale that get you for free the rest of the 2015 season, it was one of the most crowded days I've experienced. So out of my 6 visits this year, I'd say 5 were on par with every ride having a full/overflowing queue. One visit there were a few rides that had manageable 30 minute waits for half the rides. Every visit to the park I see massive lines for food/drinks. This park is all about getting as many people in as possible so they can profit off of food/drinks and force guests with extra money to buy the fast pass. I don't see this changing next year, and it seems like to enjoy this park and get one more than 4 or 5 coasters, you need a flash pass. Honestly...you could probably ride Goliath and X Flight from 10AM-Noon, then wait an hour for Batman, maybe 45 for Demon or Whizzer...then 90 for Raging Bull and a couple flats, most of your time is gone. There are some great rides at this park, but I'm not going to wait 90-120 minutes for Bull, Batman, Am Eagle, V2, Superman, or even Goliath. I really don't want to wait 60+ minutes for Dark Knight, Giant Drop, Demon or Whizzer either. Viper is the only manageable wait simply because its full queue is about a 30 minute wait. This park just isn't enjoyable in all aspects - wait times, food quality and service, operations (most of the time), rude guests, difficulty to get free water, parking, and I guess the environment is meh. For 65 bucks I'll get a pass since it's the only park near me. But I'm struggling, here! Single rider lines were being used at Superman - 2 hour wait. Line down the stairs and tucked up to the side against the flash pass/exit pathway. Goliath's SRL was apparently open for a moment but quickly closed as the wait was 2.5 hours shortly after 1PM. I'll say this again - I've never ridden Goliath after 12PM. Why? Because you have to get to the park at opening to ride it! Unless you want to wait 120-150 minutes, haha. I'm all for paying extra for the fast pass...but I wish I didn't have to use it each visit to have a good time! Looking forward to spending most of my time in the water park next year...

Oh I didn't know that. Why do they not open the haunted houses on Sundays? The park only stays open until 7PM on Sundays. I can't recall them every staying open later/or doing haunt attractions on a Sunday even going back to Paramount's ownership. I was surprised SF Great America was open 'till 10PM and had haunts open on Sundays...I had grown up only knowing KI to do it on Friday and Saturday! -
How Often Do You Go To Your Local Park?
PKI Jizzman replied to sfmmrules!'s topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
First time with a new home park this year - Six Flags Great America. I think I've been...5 times? I can't really visit during the week so my visits are on the weekend unless I have a day off. It's a decent home park since they have a variety of rides. I live downtown Chicago without a car so if there was a better public transportation route I'd probably go more often. It's been way too busy this year though. Typical day - arrive at opening and run to Goliath. After Goliath it's slammed and everything is an hour wait haha. -
The layout won't be changing from what we were told, however there is a possibility that some sections could be reshaped. There will be something different about the launch system and the trains are getting some modernization. Was back there again today. Not sure if this has been posted but this piece is clearly marked as scrap. Looks like there are red and blue dots now marking other sections. Image is not showing up. Can you upload the image so this doesn't happen? Thanks. Sorry, looks like a permissions issue with the host. Will try this new link. Can we get this photo to appear? I'd like to see proof that this guy knows which pieces are being 'marked as scrap'.

13-day, 10-park Trip Report
PKI Jizzman replied to Farley Flavors's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Great stuff! Can't wait to read the bonus Texas trip reports. If I'm going to drive out of the way for a park, it's got to be a place like Silver Dollar City. Even though Shivering Timbers looks fun, I don't think it warrants a big drive out of the way. Glad you liked the ride, though! -

In my opinion I would have gotten the fast lane for Saturday (open till 1am and packed) since Friday and Sunday are usually slower. Sunday is more of a family day IMO -

You'll find the same advice year after year. Fridays are better. People are there for both rides and haunts. Most haunts are 15 minutes wait. Beast and low capacity rides have longest lines. If you get there at opening and stay till close you'll find short waits in the first and last couple hours.
