Hersheypark (HP) Discussion Thread
Ccron10 replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Update: During Christmas Candylane, the park opens the Creekside Catering Area for Dog Sledding demonstrations. Since this area is on the chopping black for Attraction 2012, I thought it would be ineresting to see what's down there. What I found is that the path of stakes come down the hillside next to Comet's far-end turnaround, cross the dam, continue halfway to the main bridge to the catering area, go through it without coming close to the buildings and then go up the other side of the creek back towards Sooperdooperlooper. There's a stake next to the cone and behind the dog on the far left of the photo. I think the dam is staying, but the new fence ends here. This is Creekside Catering. As you can see the stakes go no farther than the one just off to the photo on the left side. Makes me wonder why they're taking out these buildings then.... 3 stakes in a row. There was another one just off the photo on the left. The geese love the lake. Ground Zero for Attraction 2012. Looks pretty big if you ask me. Many more stakes are over on that hillside. This one next to Tilt-A-Whirl's queue is broken in half. In other news, the park now has wi-fi internet in Tudor Square and Rhineland. I hope that they plan on expanding it to the rest of the park so that the iPod App becomes even more convenient. -

200ft, but the park was granted permission to build this new attraction at 212.6ft, but one of the articles said 200 to 350 ft for this permit. -

The compacted feel of Comet Hollow is kind of why I kind of like the area and the reason why Great Bear is a decent ride. There aren't many parks where you can do this in, which make this area unique (which I's rather see than just ordinary). Adding another coaster in there would make that area just more interesting and thrilling IMO. -
Hersheypark 2011 [RCT3]
Ccron10 replied to Ccron10's topic in Roller Coaster Games, Models, and Other Randomness
^^ I am well aware of this problem and have plan on redo-ing this. When I added the supports, I didn't download the Steel Jungle set. When I get around to it, I plan on fixing the color and supports to make them more realistic. That's okay, I can handle the supports, but I will need help, for anyone who uses a Windows XP Computer, to maybe add some billboards and signage to the park when I'm finished. Right now I'm working at a slow, but steady pace and have added several buildings in Rhineland. Nothing really to post an update about yet. -
Some pretty good points, but Hershey Entertainment is no stranger to owning parks or properties outside of their town. The company owned a hotel called the Pocono Resort Hotel in the Poconos for several years back in the late 70s until they sold it in 1983. They also bought Lake Compounce in 1985 but they ended up selling it 3 years later because it didn't meet their projections; sounds almost similar to the situation of what happened just now (Deja Vu!). In summary, they fail at becoming a big coperate chain like Busch Gardens. The last several properties they've own outside of Hershey city-limits have either tanked or were sold to a new owner. I hope that they finally learned their lesson this time around that they should just stick to the Hershey-brand. Back when Hershey Park was turned into Hersheypark in 1971, the plans were to turn it into the Disney World of the Northeast, but cost made them reduce the plans. Right now I think that they might be trying to claim that status again while mix in strategies that other parks are using and forgeting some major aspects of it. The Boardwalk was built to create two parks inside of one, but the location they built it in has boxed that area in with little hopes of expansion. The size and feel of Midway America has changed because of this making it instead of a circle, being shaped like a moon. I never really stay in many hotels, but from what I've read on prices for Hotel Hershey, their deals are terrible as well as the packages. A room is $279 a night and to stay in a cottage for several nights its well over $1K. The Lodge is about $30 or $40 cheaper, but it still is expensive. If Hershey wants to cater to a wider range of people and be one of the top parks in the country, they should invest in a hotel with cheaper rooms and offer Disney-like deals to get more people in their rooms. While I do agree with the high admission and season pass prices with Hersheypark, I do have to say after visiting Dorney Park once in 2006 and twice this year, that I have no problem with them. Over the many times I've visited the park, I don't think I ever had someone line-jump me. At Dorney, everytime I visited, I would always see a lot of people who would jump in line, create a scene, or the workers would be so slow at their job. I feel that the extra cost you pay to get in gives you a much better chance that you're going to enjoy your day more. The park could use more theming as well as more themed attractions, but once this and all the above happen, then I think it would be a Disney-like destination. But then again, the area around Hershey is not an Orlando either (more like a complete opposite).

[RCT2] - Legendar Park

Cool coaster. It's been awhile since I last built an RCT2 park let alone merge rides. Looks good. -
It's been awhile since I've posted a new RCT Park and with the offseason setting in, this seems like the perfect time. Before anyone asks, my Hersheypark Recreation is still alive and won't be cancelled. This park doesn't have a name yet, but the park's setting is on a tropical island off of the Japanese Coast. I've kind of always wanted to do a theme park in Japan and I kind of also wanted to re-do my Pearl Island park, so this combines the two. Right now the entry island (which will get a name soon) is 90% finished and features the main ferry dock to the mainland in which all guests will enter on, the park entrance (which is missing a roof), the main hotel (for the time-being) which holds a station to the park's monorail system, hot springs spa, and outdoor cafe patio. The island also holds a ferry station for access to the other islands that are going to be developed. That's all I have for now. Shot0042.bmp This is the view of what guests will see when they arrive to the island. Shot0043.bmp If you were swimming next to the island, this is what you will see. Shot0044.bmp Here's an arial view of the lower part of the entry island. Shot0045.bmp The hotel, entry plaza, monorail and ferry station. Shot0046.bmp In the center is the exit for the resort. Hopefully many happy faces will pass through here after a great day at the park. Shot0047.bmp This is the hot springs spa for the hotel and the monorail passing through the building. Reminds you of a certain hotel, doesn't it? Shot0048.bmp This is the monorail bridge between the main and entry island. Shot0049.bmp Here's the whole park landscape. More to Come!

It did hit me when the guy from Maurer said that. I'd take that over an Intamin and maybe a B&M and it would certainly be unique to the area. -
I wonder if this has to do with the insane cost of staying in the Hershey Hotel. Last time I looked, they were charging Disney Deluxe prices. Is there a big market for this sort of thing in Hershey, PA? Probably not, but that's coming from someone who doesn't need a hotel to go there. Hotel Hershey is a really fancy place, their restaurants are very high-class (and expensive), their shops are the same, and some of the extras they offer are the same way. I'm sure many guests either stay at the Hershey Lodge (which I think is cheaper), Hershey Highmeadow, or at a regular hotel. I would think if they'd lower the prices or offered some Disney-like offers, they'd get more people to stay in the hotel.

List the parks you have visited in 2010

Hersheypark (x3 plus 2 more visits to come) Knoebels (x1) Dorney Park (x2) Six Flags Great Adventure (x2) Next year I hope to do a new park or two. -
Right now my fansite/website, which covers news for parks in Pennsylvania (but our fanbase has been mainly for Hersheypark lately), has been around for almost a year and a half. Right now we currently have 83 members, have been featured in our local newspaper, and somehow were given the puzzle to start Hershey's new viral marketing campaign. With what has happened, I have a few questions about PR and what to expect. My first question is, how can a website like mine be considered a member of the press? Second, what are the do's and don'ts? I know Robb, might be able to answer this, but if anyone else has experience in this department, don't hesitate to post it.

This is my biggest pet peeve whenever I go to a park. Whenever my site has a meeting at a park I stress it so much, whenever I'm at a park by myself or with my girlfriend and a guy has his camera out in front of me, I tell him or her to put it away since it could hurt somebody behind them. The only rides I would think that POV would be okay on are Monorails, certain Sky Rides (Von Roll style), trains, and observation towers.

My guess is that the park wanted to get a head start on the winter inspections. I think the last two years, the park might've had trouble getting all the rides done by the time Springtime in the Park rolled around (like Fahrenheit). -

Anybody got a truck over in Japan to help haul it away? Having ridden Voodoo (Possessed), I never thought a ride like this was anything spectacular. Not a great loss in my opinion if it doesn't get relocated. -
Most hilarious Piers video yet! I was trying to hold back the laughter! On a sidenote this diserves my #1500th post.

Weirdest Things The 'GP' Have Said
Ccron10 replied to maliboomer's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
*In line for Reese's Extreme Cup Challenge and as I'm getting off of it* "Is this a roller coaster?" "Does it go upside down?" "Does it go fast?" Personally I can see how someone would think that this ride would be a coaster with all the hills and turns inside the building, but still. If you would look at the size of the building, you would easily see that it couldn't hold a tall, fast, indoor looping coaster. It might for a small kiddie coaster, but it still wouldn't matter. My favorite are the people who say that roller coasters aren't safe. Trust me, a park wouldn't open a ride if it wasn't safe and you have more of a chance getting killed on a golf cart than on an amusement park ride. -

We don't know that the 12 definitely means 12 coasters. It could refer to the year 2012. Fact is, we don't know whats happening yet. Might doesn't mean will. Just trying to clarify it. But from going to the park a week and a half ago, I found no evidence to show that it's leaving the park just yet. But that doesn't mean that there won't be a chance for it to be removed in 2011 though. -

If Sooperdooperlooper is going to be removed, we would've heard something about it and if they took it out and added this supposed new coaster, the count would remain at 11 (which doesn't seem like what might happen according to what the marketing is showing as far as RIT goes). The park is also selling a lot of the retro SDL shirts as well. -

Saturday should be busy, but I wouldn't expect waits to be above 1/2 hour or even 45 minutes since it won't be too much of a warm day. As for temperatures and the rides, pretty much all the non-coasters would stay open. The coasters close when the temperatures drop below around 40 degrees, but I'm sure it varries from ride-to-ride. Sundays shouldn't be much of a problem. -

What about that unique thing going up in Italy? Hmm... I have to wonder. I mean something like X-Raptor would be cool. -

One of the guys over at Keystone Thrills may have found a clue reguarding something posted on the RIT site : As for where everything is, there is nothing by Sooperdooperlooper and nothing to show any signs of it leaving. Most of the stakes have been found around Comet with two being behind Scrambler, one in the exit for Comet, two behind the Comet Hollow Restrooms and a lot more on both sides of the creek running from Comet down to Creekside Catering. The yellow ovals show the general area of the stakes (they aren't specific stakes) and the large oval shows where the new shack is. The white circles show servey markers. -

Sooperdooperlooper isn't going to be leaving. If it was, then there would be one less star on the shield. Plus there are also more stakes and markers surrounding Comet. A B&M Dive Machine would be cool and I think I remember talking about this in the speculation for Fahrenheit. The big discussion on that was if Busch signed a contract with B&M to not build any of them in any other park in the US. Has there been any proof of any park signing a deal with a manufacturer saying that they plan on building such a number of their coasters or rides in their park? When I was there on Sunday I saw a new shack has been built next to Comet's first drop. It's at a location where you can easily see it from Looper's brake run and you can't really get a good picture of it. RIT's research facility? lol There were also more markers found in the Comet Hollow games building next to Tilt-A-Whirl. I've ridden at least 1 of every B&M type coaster out there right now except for a Dive Machine. If this turns out to be it, I'll be happy. I also want to point out that a splashdown could happen, but they'd just need to lower the creek level by letting the water move more freely at the dam near the catering area, work in the lake area and make it run more narrower, then add whatever they want there. Kind of what Kings Island did for Diamondback, but still keeping the creek.
