Hersheypark (HP) Discussion Thread

From the park's Facebook Page: http://www.facebook.com/#!/permalink.php?story_fbid=199249693422565&id=16994689356 I guess they're having a naming contest for the restaurant. I've already posted my naming suggestions. -
SFNO/Jazzland Discussion Thread
Ccron10 replied to SharkTums's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I have a question. The park has been in the same condition exposed to the elements for almost 5 and a half years now. Some of the rides have been moved out, and things are falling apart. Wouldn't it just be easier and cheaper at this point to just buy a plot of land at a different location start from scratch? Jazzland/ Six Flags New Orleans hasn't had a very long life to make it historic, but don't you think that it's time to just put the park to rest and let it fade into history? -
Two inverted shuttle coasters right next to each other? I know it's not exactly the same but that didn't stop them from putting Demon Drop very close to Dominator even when Demon Drop wasn't needed. Yeah, they inherited one old un-reliable ride, why not add another? As much as I would like to ride it just for the credit, I hope it doesn't get built there. I did hear that Dorney did buy some land recently around Laser's old spot. I would think that it would be for something big in 2012. As much as what other coasters CGA has, I personally wouldn't consider Invertago a major ride, but I've never been there so take my opinion with a grain of salt.

Photo TR: ZooAmerica/Hersheypark/Chocolate World Winter Stop
Ccron10 replied to Ccron10's topic in Photo Trip Report Archive
I still haven't visited the Museum yet since they moved, but I might do that next weekend. I've found that even though the park isn't open, Chocolate World and ZooAmerica managed to take an afternoon to get through and I think that it would've been a full day visit if I included the museum. -
Last weekend I decided to go out, brave the cold, and head down the road to Hershey for Community Weekend. Usually for one weekend each year, attractions such as Zoo America, Chocolate World, and The Hershey Story Museum open up to the public and offer FREE admission. My roommate dropped me off at Chocolate World and I decided to walk to Zoo America from there to get some off-season photos of the park. I later walked back to Chocolate World, did the 3D Show for the first time, rode the Tour Ride for a free sample and left after I got some hot chocolate. On to the Photos! Well, this is my first stop of 2011 of many more to come. Most of the Christmas stuff has been taken down. Except for Coal Cracker being rehabbed again and work starting down in Creekside Catering, not much is going on inside the park. Great Bear's pre-drop helix is very photogentic back here. Moving on to the ZooAmerica photos, take a look at this big a$$ snake. This is a look that says that if you're bitten by it's one-inch fangs, your arm would fall off (and probably much more than that). Ooo, turtles. Gotta love that it would probably take them a complete day to get from one side of their enclosure to the other. This fella is hard to photograph while running approximately 30mph. If you give an owl enough sugar, he looks like this. Plz dnt watrmark me. ok thnx. I took one or two photos of this guy back in November. He must really love the attention because came over to pose for me again. Kind of cute. I felt sorry for this little guy since nobody was standing around and watching him. No prairie dogs. Everytime a zookeeper would walk by, they would always follow him around. Artsy. The Eclipse of the Kissing Tower. I think my favorite of the many owls here are the Snowy Owls. Pretty much the most popular animal in ZooAmerica thanks to a certain vampire movie and TV Show. I guess it's no different than clownfish and Nemo. One of Monorail's trains was parked outside its service center. I guess they don't have room to fit both of them inside. Lynx have beautiful faces. Getting back over to Chocolate World, here are some photos of Great Bear and Comet. First drop. Two Zero-G Rolls in one shot. If the branches wern't there, then this would look even better. Comet's backside. I did the 3D Show at the last moment because: A: I walked into the place 5 minute before showtime. B: I never seen it before. C: My season pass gave me a discount on it. I look like a Russian Johnny Depp Willy Wonka in this photo. I LOVE this room on the tour ride! It smells so awesome! Until my next trip. Don't forget to comment and provide feedback! Unlike a certain individual, I welcome it!

I'm sorry to jump on the bandwagon, but I'm out as well. I found that once you build constantly with custom scenery, you never go back. -

I played connect the dots with the stakes and got something like this: (see below). Chances are since talk going around is that it's going to go over the water, this isn't a very accurate picture, but the layout given makes it look like it's going to be a good ride reguardless of what manufacturer builds it. -

UPDATE: 1/22/11 Photo AND Video Update Since it was Community Weekend, I figured I would stop by ZooAmerica and Chocolate World as well as take a peek and see what's happening with Attraction 2012. I'll post a seperate trip report on my visit, but here is what's happening so far: It's empty..... too empty.... The bleachers are gone from the dog sledding demonstrations during Candylane and there's no sign of a picnic table anywhere. Creek's drained. Same stakes. There were a few with blue flags too. Last time they drained the creek was to move land to build this. Tilt-A-Whirl's cars are still there, but something is stacked next to in on the midway. Interesting.... The mysterious white shack. Something left over from the past. There are two or three of these benches still here. I think it's safe to say that they're gone. This stake, as well as a few more, are found on the hillside between Comet's turnaround and the lake. I'm guessing that they've been out of view. DIRT! Here is the first ever, Keystone Thrills Video Update. I apalogize for my soft spoken voice. I'll leave you with a photo of Hersheypark's skyline. I should have the official update posted on the Update page tomorrow. Enjoy! -

Sounds good. I think they lowered the creek-level during Springtime in the Park so that they could build that random, mysterious shack next to Comet's first drop. EDIT: I'll go check it out tomorrow and get some type of update together. -

Some new photos have been popping up from Knoebels's facebook page. 2 photos, I believe, might be of the scenes from inside the ride. Looks like they won't be using the old ones. -
For the last several years my family and me would usually go up and stay around the park for several days. One of the days would usually consist of going to the park, another would be a trip to Lycoming County above Williamsport where the Pine Creek is. This area is very picturesque with many mountains and valleys (including the Grand Canyon of Pennsylvania). It usually takes 1 to 2 hours to get up to this area (3 hours and a long, boring, drive on Rt. 287 to get to the Canyon), but it's worth it if you love nature. Other attractions are Reptileland and a Coal Mining Tour in Ashland.

Yes, at least he didn't say that he owned the Big Dipper. This plays a BIG difference between Kat & Kiwi and Prince Desmond. After going on GLT, I'm amazed at how many of the members think that Cedar Fair is an evil dynasty and think that this failure was somehow connected to the company. But then again, I guess I'm not really shocked. Robb, as I was reading that post that Kat made, the way she typed the first paragraph or two, it just told me that she wanted to type that in a certain way to make it sound like an innocent bystander. EDIT: I also saw that coming too Robb. She's now going to make up a bunch of excuses on why she can't refund the money such as not know how to do it. We all saw this coming. -
Today was the first day of the semester for me at college and since the Farm Show was going on, a few friends and me decided to go check it out in an hour and half. We only got through one exhibit hall and a few rows of another. For the short time we were there, we had a great time and hope to head back again sometime later this week. Ahh, Pennsylvania's Farm Show, the Keystone state's answer to a State Fair. What kind of artery-clogging goodness can we find in the food court? Cheese cubes? Check... Rumor has it that they are teaming up with the Ride Institute and Hershey to have Attraction 2012 feature a portabella mushroom soup splashdown. If one of Top Thrill Dragster's trains was magically turned into a tractor, it would look like this. Plowing those fields would be a breeze! Words can't describe how pathetic this is. This contest was a bunch of environmental displays that were submitted by schools. Why the hell should there be a ribbon for 18th place?! My friend Pat tries out one of the construction vehicles on display.... we're doomed! lol My other friend, Becca tried out the smaller version. As you could see from our expressions, we had a great time. A few seconds later, I got ran over. PEDDLE FASTER!!!! I HAVE NO BRAKES!!!! Oh the humanity!! Hillbillies have got Pat! Nevermind, it was just Becca. Squaredancing. This was kind of a flashback to those days of doing that in my high school gym class. Those were strange days indeed. The random stalls, shops, and displays are always fun. Damn, that's a big hog. This year's butter scupture. Very random. FREE MINI GOLF! That's all for now. I may return later in the week and might have more photos of animals, dispalys and other random and awesome stuff.

Woodland Park [RCT3]

Author's Note: Thanks for the positive feedback. I'll be a little busy this coming weekend and might not be able to post many updates, but i should be back to usual by Monday. ______________________________________________________________________________________________________ Chapter 4: 1926-1927 (Ferris Wheel) 1925 proved to be Woodland Park’s greatest year yet with record numbers flocking to the pool, riding the rides, and the ballroom floor being so packed that you could hardly move. Since Mr. Farland believed in expanding slowly, a Ferris Wheel was built behind the trolley stop and Spiral Slide. He wanted to provide more things to do on the midway, yet not build it up to fast. The new ride brought in more guests, but not as much as a roller coaster would. None the less, the Ferris Wheel was exciting. For the following season, the park paid more attention to taking care of what they already have and repainted some of the buildings and rides. When it was time for Figure 8’s time to get some rehab work done, it was discovered that three-quarters of the support structure was rotting away! Instead of repairing the ride, Mr. Farland knew that it would be a better decision to build a more thrilling roller coaster in it’s place that could hold more riders. Ferris Wheel cira 1926. A new food stand was also added. cira 1926 The Ferris Wheel was 45 feet tall, but it didn't seem that tall since it was built inside a valley. Woodland Park [RCT3]
Ccron10 replied to Ccron10's topic in Roller Coaster Games, Models, and Other Randomness
Chapter 3: 1925 (Starlight Ballroom) Mr. Farland, for having traveled to many amusement parks, knew that one of the most popular attractions was the ballroom. People would come from faraway to have a romantic evening and dance the night away under the stars. Another reason to add one to his park was that it was a big money-maker. Woodland park’s new Starlight Ballroom was built on a hill behind the Figure 8 coaster and overlooked a heart-shaped pond. One of the most popular areas for couples spend some “alone time” was one of the paths leading to the ballroom because of it’s quietness and beautiful setting. While being among the Roaring Twenties, the park was in a big building boom and because of the big crowds, more rides were needed. One of the first events to be held in the Starlight Ballroom was a Luau. cira 1925. Chapter 2: 1923-1924 (Soldier Park Playground) During it’s opening season, Woodland Park didn’t do bad, but it didn’t rake in a bundle of money. The swimming pool ended up being the most popular attraction followed by the Figure 8 roller coaster. For the park’s second season a playground was added. It was a hit with the kids and families who didn’t want to pay to ride the bigger rides. Inside the playground was a statue that paid tribute to those who served in the Great War. Mr. Farland, while didn’t serve in the army, did have his company make weapons for the boys over seas and wanted a way to remember them. The woman statue was taken from a bombed town in Germany and was erected inside the park. In 1924, the park didn’t receive anything new and was in the process in saving up for something big in 1925 that’s been becoming popular across the country. Author's Note : Over a week ago I tried loading my Shizukana Resort Park to add the finishing touches and my game randomly crashed. I have no idea why it does it, but I am 95% finished with it and will post it (along with the custom scenery i made for it) for download inside the game file database. I used a lot of CS and CTR's on it and because of the amount I will not include a list of what I used. To take the place of the other park, will be this one. Have fun following along and happy reading! ______________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Chapter 1: Opening Year 1922 Hello friends, I’m here to tell you all about a story that’s been passed down in my family for three or four generations about an amusement park built in a forest about 30 miles south of Buffalo, New York. The story starts just after the Great War in the year 1921 with a businessman named, Walter Farland. He was famous in the amusement industry for traveling all over the country and building carousels with his company, Farland Manufacturing. The story goes, while traveling through upstate New York, Farland visited a town called Pine Hollow. It was a sleepy little town that was frequently visited by people heading to Buffalo. Farland noticed a nice patch of land just outside of town that looked like the prime spot for a park to entertain travelers and the townspeople. With the investment of $10,000, he bought the wooded land that was dotted with lakes, had his company build a carousel, figure eight coaster, a pool with a bathhouse, bowling alley and slide, then hired one of his friends, John Miller to build a thrilling roller coaster that took advantage of the hilly park. On the park’s opening day in April 1922, he stood between the two iconic stone pillars that signified the park’s entrance. He declared Woodland Park officially open and for it to be enjoyed by people, for many years to come. List the parks you have visited in 2011
Ccron10 replied to Groteslurf's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Does Rocky Springs Park count even though it's closed? If so, then I went there on January 2, 2011. -
I know, I was pretty suprised in its condition. It was like it was untouched since it closed. There was not grafitti, vandalism or anything.
