  1. First off no, it's only one side. I wanted it to be a dual track like the real one but just the one track alone costed about $400.00. The middle of the track (where the magnets are) is made out of just plain wood. (Painted silver) The rails are metal. Some of this probably sounds confusing but it will make a lot more sense once I get some pictures posted.
  2. Well getting the "right" parts for the ride was a struggle. Since Home Depot dosen't sell Build your own Superman kits. We got the supplies a little bit at a time. These were our main problems: 1) Since the car has a peice of metal that slides across the metal that is wired up to the magents it sticks out about half an inch on the bottom of the car. It snaged on the support structure when it hit the slope!! So we had to buy this woobly plastic rail thing so when the car hits the slope it runs on the plastic rails and dosen't snag on the supports on the slope. 2) We always needed more power! We thought one 12 volt car battery could do it..and it dose not! We needed to get more power to it! Sounds easy right! Just plug in another car battery and there you go. Well there was so much power running through the rails that the metal that slides on the rail would arc and burn and stick to the rail! So the rails got all dirty and sticky! So I had to find the perfect balance of power. 3) (this one is kinda funny now)> After spending a good 4 hours on making the outside of the car it was perfect it looked just like supermans car! So it was time to paint it! So I started to paint it and the paint ate my car! So my perfect superman car turned into a pile of blubby foam 4) The first thing that had to be made was the car's frame and wireing system. We went through about 4 prototypes before we got a car thay was okay. (weight, structure, and a few other things prevented the other cars to run on Superman) Those are the big ones.
  3. ^ Yes, I will have pictures of the track when I get home tommorow. I'll try to get a movie if the thing is operating Like the real one it's got an attitude about getting about and going to work in the morning Infact it acts much like a "real" coaster. This is its operating time-line. February 17, 2004 :Superman opens! April-September, 2004: SBNO November - Present: Superman remains operating every so often but needs to be worked on almost every other day.
  4. What problems did you run into ? I'm just wondering because I bet we ran into the same ones.
  5. Well, I tried to take a on-ride video of it Didn't work too well. So I don't know how intense it is. Can't be any worse than the real one. This is how it works: I made about 48 or so electromagnets and placed them in the middle of the linear wooden track. The Power is connected to the right metal rail. Under the car there is a peice of metal that scrapes/slides on the right rail and the wires under the car hit a peice of metal that is connected to that electromagnet which gives that magnet power for a split second to launch the car foward. Timing was a key factor. I had to make sure that the regular magnets that were attached under the car were just right infront of the electromagnets that were on the track. I also had to make my own control panel to launch the car, give the rest of the track power, have a meter showing that the coaster has full power. I also had a fuse in the panel. So the car gets speed and it hits the slope and the vertical tower. It goes very close to the top and even makes a roar sound as it goes up the tower and down it again. Just like the real S:TE the electromagnets also serve as the brakes. I hold down the power button to have the power run through the right rail once again and activate about 1/4 electromagnets to slow the car down so it can return at a safe speed. I even built his fortress of Solitude. The project costed about $400.00 . Man hours: Over 300 Money spent on Starbucks: I think we found out it was close to $150.00!!! The longest we spent working on it straight was about 28 hours. Any questions or comments? I will have pics on the site sometime tommorow.
  6. I built a working model of Superman The escape for my 8th grade science fair project. I spent close to a year on it and I am still always having to close it for maintence. I can upload pics and explain it better if someone wants me to. Heres the plain info of it. Linear Launch: About 8 ft. Slope: About 3 ft Vertical tower: about 6-7 ft. It is powered by 24 volts. And yes I have been shocked pretty bad while working on it
  7. After everyone else had left my cousin and I spent about 2 more hours or so at the park. They got superman runing right before we left the park. We were walking RIGHT under it too going over to Goliath when it fired for the first time and wanted to grace us with its delightful sound. Anyway thanks again for letting us hang out with you guys at the park today! The group photo turned out well
  8. Let's just say I'm a Christain with a lot of questions!
  9. Everyone better stop dissing my favorite theme for a coaster "Faded Parking lot goodness". I could really care less for theming on a coaster unless its something like Space Mountain or any other rides that half of the reason why you ride them is for the theming. On Scream all I can think of is "Yeah!!! B&M!!". So themeing really dosen't do much for me on a regular coaster.
  10. Although it sounds like a ton of fun...theres one problem..the only camera I have is a 16 second movie feature on my Digital Camera! (Not to mention..very poor quality)..how about a "slide show contest" also!
  11. ^ SFMM will probably not tear down Flashback. As long as it's standing it counts as a coaster and they would really hate it if CP took the lead over them in the most amount of coasters. as would I.
  12. When although Superman can give you a 6 second feel of being weightless there really is no ejector airtime on it :? I don't think anyone has said this one yet so I'll say the only good thing about Deja vu is the great airtime on that! Oh yeah!!! But I've gotten the most intense airtime on Goliath at SFMM (Front Seat, hands off, and have the lapbar raised just a little ) Xcelerator and California Screamin isn't bad either!
  13. I really fear that Monte's days are numbered. As well as Boomerange...but meh...Boomerange is a frickin Vekoma so who cares I would like to see an impulse coaster were Boomerange is now! I think that would be a good addition to the park and it would look great in that location also. But it might fit better where Monte is right now There was a rumor that there was going to be a flying coaster coming soon where Big Foot Rapids is now. But I feel as if that rumor is pretty BS myself. KOD was dead to me when they connected the cars and had a cop in the back seat.
  14. Agreed! I got a chance to listen to one of their songs because a lot of people were talking about how good they were. Whoa!....a big shock to me.
  15. Wow! This coaster really blew me away! The trackwork was good but I really liked the themeing and the lift's tunnel! Great job on the textures.
  16. About not being able to feel the 0g's on Superman. Let me try to put this in a way that sounds okay. Lets say your on Goliath at SFMM. < The first drop. As you know you catch a lot of air on that first drop. But I think that half of the feeling of being weightless is being able to see the ground, track, and other elements around you. On Superman all you really see is just blue sky and maybe a few other rider's heads. So there is no visual infront of you showing you that you are going down or up. Also on Superman it's important that: A) You don't push your lapbar too far down or else that can kill a lot of airtime. < But not loose enough that you fall out B) When on the vertical part of the ride let go of everything! Don't hang on to the lapbar. Just put your arms out infront of you and just sorta glide. Did you get that first part okay? I know it's a bit confusing :?
  17. I really wanted to see Taxi! We went to blockbuster 3 times and all three times they didn't have it. We also went to our cheapy 1$ movie store; they didn't have it either. :?
  18. Although the story of "my first coaster" is so interesting I think we should get back to the topic. So my advice to Elissa, don't go on coasters if and when your pregnant...something could go horribly wrong. Or it could turn out fine! I turned out just great and so did my mom! My Avator is a family picture of us < See...we are 110& Normal!
  19. Well if they've been in the company for "a while" then I guess I trust them to do what best for CF and such. I doubt that this will change much though or at least change what us guests can see in the parks.
  20. Oh! Sorry, I must have forgotten about this topic. Anyway here's my data: 900 MHz 128 MB SDRAM Memory 30.0 GB Ultra DMA hard drive That about all the simple info._____ It was a Windows ME when I got it. But Since then I have updated it to Windows XP Home Edition.
  21. Yep! It's gonna have to be Superman: The Escape (SFMM)! What is it? 6.3 seconds of air 8) < You gotta love that!
  22. ^ Oh yeah I'm sure! I actually feel a bit lucky to had riden a looping coaster at the tender age of -8.7 months.
  23. It looks like the Fruit Loops Bird's evil twin brother or something!!!
  24. ^ O come on! My mom rode Montezooma's Revenge when she was pregnant. Me turn out total fine!
  25. ^ Yeah, I heard a rumor a while back saying something like that.
