Mitch Hawker's Coaster Poll 2009!
Hercules replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I have Voyage as #1 on my list and I haven't been within 600 miles of it since it was built. It is just that good. -
I tend to use the Google Maps app for my Blackberry pretty often. It is pretty useful as long as it pinpoints your starting location. However, if you have some smarts and driving sense, you can figure out your way if the first step or two is a little mixed up because the beginning location is off by a block or two.

This isn't even fun at this point.....

In the 2006 NLCS, there were runners at first and second for the Mets. The pitchers slot came up in the batting order. Willie Randolph had 2 options - send up a hurt Cliff Floyd to swing away, or send Tom Glavine to the plate, one of the best bunting pitchers of all time, from off the bench. Hitting Glavine pretty much ensured that 2 runners would be in scoring position. This would have given a hot Jose Reyes an opportunity to drive in the winning runs. It also would have taken away the potential for the double play, so even if Reyes made an out Paul Lo Duca would have had a shot at it. Randolph went with Floyd, who struck out. Reyes hit a line drive out to the outfield. Lo Duca walked. Beltran struck out with the bat on his shoulder. Would that not have been a good time to drop down a bunt?

^ Jeter attempted a sac bunt the other night. He struck out after 3 unsuccessful attempts. I guess he should have swung away. Oh no, wait, that is harder than bunting.
-
^ Big deal. Get over it.

Forget Drew Brees. How about Darren Sharper?

Is the Miami offense not the most entertaining thing on primetime tonight?

^^ I agree. Also, I am not jealous of the Patriots or Brady at all. Ok ok. Belicheck and Brady are the most brilliant people ever..... blah blah blah. Happy? Suggs is an idiot, and he was not masterfully prepped by Harbaugh like Belicheck did with his team.

Expedition Geforce cable snaps...

I'm pretty sure if it happened even during a test run people would be saying "I can't believe this! It is a good thing people weren't on it! They got so lucky! Either way, this should NEVER happen, even on a test run." So is Intamin, the company that merely designed the ride and probably has touched it in years, supposed to be able to control when a malfunction occurs? The maintenance people that see the ride every day can't even control when something like this is going to happen. Things like this happen unexpectedly with large machines like this. -
This news comes straight out of the Volokonovsky district of the Belgorod Region. (Awww yeah, boiiieeees! Put yo hands up for da Belgorod Region!) In a very poorly written article from MeatRussia.com we get a somewhat confusing but nonetheless interesting story about a brand new pre-bacon farm in Russia’s Southwest region – which is different from the American Southwest in that it has pig farms and no Grand Canyon or Walk of Fame. This new facility can foster up to 16 thousand piglets at a time! These piglets will eventually be transferred to a fattening house when they reach a weight of 35Kg. The entire complex apparently produces up to 60 thousands tons of pig per year, which leads to a whole lot of bacon. Russia is doing its part to bring bacon to all the citizens of the world, and for this, we offer everyone in Belgorod a heartfelt “Spasibo”! http://bacontoday.com/belgorodsky-bacon/

I might be wrong, but I'm pretty sure Robb doesn't have a collection of POV's from every coaster...... ever. ^ That is interesting to me as well. Obviously it is a personal preference thing, but I tend to dislike the Expedition series. It can be entertaining, but I tend to like more coaster and ride footage, as opposed to a music video mix. Also Robb - for me, I think more of a tour of Asia would help broaden it in terms of interest for me, but I still wouldn't be completely sold on the idea. However, I do like the idea of getting the release out as opposed to never getting that footage on another disc. Perhaps it might be a good thing to do either straight Japan or Asia if you have to in order to get the footage out to people. If that is what it comes down to, I am sold on it.

Any worse than year's past? Has anyone seen the official who sounds JUST LIKE The Ladies Man?

Hmm--not so sure about that. BGW and Colonial Williamsburg have been selling combo passes for the park, the historic area, Jamestown, and Yorktown for a few years. I imagine this has been a pretty good arrangement all the way around, or else they wouldn't do it. And even without the combo passes Colonial Williamsburg would have an indirect correlation to Busch Garden's profit. The entire area is essentially a package in itself. I think it would be rare for someone interested in going to Colonial Williamsburg and/or Jamestown/Yorktown, and not fitting in Busch Gardens into their itinerary. Also, you don't have to be a resort to make money from a lowered gate cost. Let's just say hypothetically, park admission is $50. A family of 4 purchases a combo pass for said park that would give the park $25 less in profit per guest at the gate. However, the family had never planned on going to the park to begin with. At the minimum, that would be (assuming all things equal) the park brought in $100 more by having that combo pass. Not to mention, the potential for, say a $40-50 lunch, and potentially $50-100 in merchandise from that family. Multiply that over the possibility of thousands of additional potential guests, and you don't have to have a resort to make some extra revenue. Now, will some of that be offset by some people that were planning on doing the park anyway? Sure. Good for them for seeking out a great deal. But the potential for a good gain with a combo plan would, hypothetically, work out well.

As said, it would definitely spike in park sales. A combo ticket plan would get people who wouldn't have initially gone to the one park or two in the first place into the gate. I'm sure there would be people willing to spend an extra day if they got a decent deal on another park, and subsequently buy food and merchandise.

I voted no. I am a huge fan of the Raw DVD series. They are probably my favorite coaster DVD's I have, and honestly, I had been waiting for straight footage for a very long time in DVD form. However, I don't really like the Japan only thing. I think the thing that really attracts me to your videos has been the wide variety of coasters from around the world, at varying parks. Sure, there are a bunch of different parks in Japan, and I'm sure the rides differ a lot from each other, but the experience of seeing different rides from different places around the world is more appealing to me. I really liked the defunct theme to the last DVD's, but I'm not a huge fan of the country specific theme.

Yankees in 5 - I hate to say it. Angels in 5 - Boston doesn't have enough this year to take it. Cardinals in 4 - Dodgers will get a game, but I don't see this being close. Phillies in 5 - Slightly betting starters. Better bullpen (even with Lidge).
