  1. No, the escalator video you are referring to was actually filmed near the end of the noon tour - that would explain the escalator being in ERT mode. I was making my way on the field toward the visitors locker room around 2pm. And I'll second your views not only based on comfort, but also on economics. Which sounds better, a facility that is used only 10 or so events a year, or one that is used year round for purposes beyond football? Especially when the stadium is financed with public dollars? Surely Lucas Oil Stadium would've been cheaper without the retractable roof, but would've also reduced its value and potential. This is a place that is versatile yet not cookie cutter. If one wanted to build a traditional football-only stadium with the real but muddy grass, with mostly private money, I don't oppose that at all. But if it's tax dollars that make them possible, then I think the taxpayers should get the most for their money.
  2. I'll make (and post) a longer music-video from the Stadium tour later.
  3. At the end of the tours, visitors had two locker room options: go inside the visitors locker room, or pass by the Colts locker room... Inside the Colts locker room.
  4. I am in the 5th year program working for my MArch at OSU. I start in LATE September. I really admit I wish I were starting a month earlier. 5. It was awesome seeing Jonathan Horton get fired up as his US gymnastics team won the bronze Monday night. Excited, as there'd be no returning olympians, especially with the injuries of Paul and Morgan Hamm. Also great though bittersweet to see David Durante in the stands as the third and final alternate to make it to Beijing but not on the floor. I saw on Drudge that Michael Phelps takes in 12,000 calories a day! I know I eat a lot of loaded fatty stuff, but at least it comes to Phelps' advantage!
  6. And that's a great point... On some issues, I'm more conservative than McCain... on others I'm more left than Obama. Likewise, I have friends and acquaintances from "both sides." To almost quote Toby Keith, (a self-proclaimed conservative Democrat) some (my architecture/grad school colleagues) see me as a gun-toting redneck, and others (family and friends) see me as a pot-smoking hippie. The definitions, especially liberal and conservative, have been diluted. Traditionally, both stood for individual freedoms, but their emphases obviously differing. Liberals didn't have great disdain for business, and conservatives didn't seem to care as much what we do in private. Now the two represent extremes. Those who say that it's the liberals who see government as our savior are half right - IMO conservatives can be equally guilty.
  7. Is it just me, or are some of Holiday World's men's rooms, especially in the new Thanksgiving seaction, kinda... small?
  8. Holiday World is indeed getting a new (or used) ride... No, it's not Dorney's Laser.
  9. Ohh... there's John Cummuta that has this system to eliminate debt... he always has the sound of a cell phone ringing. Same goes for a creditor help-line ad on the radio where the phone rings up to five times!!! "Now that we're scared the crap out of you, we want your business!" Get lost.
  10. Probably belongs in the "Hottest Girl" thread, but nonetheless funny. Bush has NO Class
  11. Is it just me, or does the Behemoth sign remind me of the JEOPARDY! logo? Alex Trebek is from Canada. Coincidence?
  12. I voted for Huckabee in the Ohio primary. He seemed to have a view of smart growth that McCain didn't, and I think he would have attracted both conservatives and moderates (like myself). I, thus, like some of the things Obama is offering, but he's overall too much to the left of me.
  13. There are some things that Barack Obama sounds better on than John McCain. One of them is about smart growth. I'm all for business and property rights, but over the past few decades, things have been done irresponsibly. The oil/gas price increases are making people consider alternatives to driving everywhere, and we need to invest in them. On that issue, McCain seems indifferent, or even supportive of the status quo, like I feel Bush is. I agree with McCain on increasing drilling capacity and using nuclear power, but it's only part of the right equation. I voted for Bush twice. While I don't necessarily regret it, I think we need to change some things - and if I were a one-issue voter, I'd likely vote for Obama. However, regarding taxes, the military and foreign policy, among others, I will be more than likely voting for McCain in November. I don't know what Obama's biggest weakness is - his overall stance on politics, or his inexperience.
  14. Very good stuff. Sometimes, it's not too late to do a Photo TR. If count is important, and you plan on going back to Carowinds this year, I suggest doing Flying Super Saturator, since it is rumored to be taken out to make way for Geauga Lake's old Boomerang. Don't know if that's a downgrade or upgrade... And hopefully they'll be racing Thunder Road next time around. And I can say I'm very happy my park is FINALLY getting a B&M! And it's the kind I wanted the most! You may want to come up and ride Diamondback.
  15. Time Warner Cable in Cincinnati (and I'd imagine Dayton and Columbus as well as other markets), is doing another "sales drive." This time using their god-awful "I Want Candy" parody/cover.... I would be surprised if an increase in homicides/suicides were purely a coincidence.
  16. I normally don't shop Walmart. On Wednesday, when I went to a nearby Supercenter, I rediscovered why - there are almost never enough checkouts open, and the woman running the self-checkouts was harried and pissy. It's actually a nice looking store outside and a great new development. If Obama and the Democrats get their way this fall, Wal-Mart workers will get the right to unionize.* And I thought the place sucked already.** I'll stick with Kroger and Meijer, thank you. Or even drive a bit further to Jungle Jim's, home of the former Kings Island monorail. * fact ** opinion
  17. I would like to see how much of the general public is going to criticize how this coaster compares to other B&M hypers. Knowing how the economy is in Ohio, I doubt many in Kings Island's super region have ridden Behemoth, Nitro, Goliath, Raging Bull, or Apollo's Chariot. While it's easy to point out how B&M is copying elements of other coasters, we're seeing the first splashdown not on a Busch Gardens dive machine. The ride also travels over the midway, with the return portion very close to the midway, hovering over the Crypt and Beast plazas - very photogenic. It uses the best of both worlds - prominently placed while tucked into the woods at the same time. Besides, there's been a large amount of people - even those who don't consider themselves coaster freaks - who have been wanting Kings Island to build a ride like this. The combination of speed, height, airtime, length and capacity is indisputable. Also, it greatly utilizes the park's terrain, which has helped to make The Beast so great. The coaster has a bit of gimmick to it, but it won't be overly reliant upon the gimmick to make it a great ride. Diamondback may not be the most unique hyper in the world, but it's nice for me not having to drive to Chicago, Williamsburg, Jackson NJ, or Atlanta just to ride a B&M hyper.
  18. Somebody must be imprisoned:
  19. I've only been to IB once ever, which was 5 years ago. I had the feeling that things were getting better this year with the addition of Steel Hawg and the new paint jobs and such. Wow, I must be wrong. I may be going next weekend or so, hopefully things are a little better, but I won't hold my breath.
  20. Did we really need the poll question? Who in their right mind would say, "No! I hate railroads! TAER TEHM DOWN!!!" I agree, the brief, one sentence posts are annoying, as can be the "... anyone?" topic titles.
  21. I too am a rail-fan. I'm mostly a fan of transit railways, such as subways and metros, as well as light rail and streetcar systems. I've been on the ones in Chicago, Washington DC, Cleveland, Pittsburgh, and St. Louis. Of course, I'm also a fan of monorails, and having ridden Las Vegas' monorail. I've never been on an inter-city system, like Amtrak, but would like to do so eventually. Urban transit rail is not only a fun way to go, but it's an important asset in having a great city. After all, it was Walt Disney himself that thought autopia was more of a dystopia! We might not agree about Walt's exact vision, but he had some elements right. Note: I think that this is a worthwhile thread. If I have to, I'll start a thread on railfans!

  23. I don't think it's that. It's interesting because Kings Island needs a real standout attraction. It's still promoting The Beast as the park's main attraction. That's not something you should be doing for nearly 30 years. This will most likely be the biggest, most expensive attraction the park has ever seen. I think that's pretty interesting. I'm sure that some will whine because it doesn't break any meaningful records. Records, schmecords... I've felt for a decade that Kings Island needs a signature steel coaster. IMO the last time the park built a steel coaster of great stature was Vortex. Sure, Top Gun/Flight Deck, Flight of Fear, and even Firehawk were noteworthy, but they don't stand out like many B&Ms and Intamins do, IMO. Of course, not only is the park hyping this thing greatly, several blueprints are on file at the City of Mason Planning Department, confirming several details. I can't see how this coaster will disappoint the general public, let alone enthusiasts.
  24. I'm still confused... Joker left the hospital alone as he was blowing it up, did he put Dent on the bus before the im/explosion? I also loved how they filmed it in Chicago... Batman on the edge of Sears Tower, funny how they left a lot of real-word signs in the background... Budweiser, US Bank, Scottrade, Kinko's - even a shop called "Sweet Home Chicago." Though they did slightly modified a cta bus to say "Gta" I finally saw it at my local IMAX screen. The place was packed, partly due to Bargain Tuesday - $6, even for IMAX after 6pm!
  25. I thought we already had a 30-page thread on this: http://www.themeparkreview.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=20159&start=290
