Cedar Point (CP) Discussion Thread
FeelTheFORCE replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Regardless, it is definitely strange that he was a speaker, especially considering Cedar Point's most recent B&M was built 14 years ago. The Dive Machine rumors have been going around for a few years now. I know I wouldn't mind one, as I really liked Sheikra! Knowing Cedar Point, it would probably be one monster of a coaster also, possibly 230+ feet tall. -
Kingda Ka Coaster Question
FeelTheFORCE replied to sixflagsgadvguy1000's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Just do it and don't think about it. It's only, what like 19 seconds long (give or take a couple seconds)? The launch is a huge rush and a very enjoyable experience. Kingda Ka wasn't rough at all when I rode it, very smooth, adrenalin-filled ride. You're up and down so fast by the time you realize how high you are and how fast you are going, the ride is over. You'll love it! -
We are talking about fighter pilots because G forces are G forces, no matter where you experience them. 2 Gs is 2 Gs if you're on Batman: The Ride, or riding in an F22 Raptor. That and LOT of roller coaster elements are modeled after fighter jet maneuvers, so it's an easy comparison. Max Immelmann immediately comes to mind. I mentioned the arm because you said, "It cant be healthy to go draining blood out of your brain and eyes till you cant see." I "drain blood" out of my arm practically every single night, and it seems to be just fine, and not need constant checking from a physician. Blacking out and returning to the station unconscious is DEFINTELY something to be concerned about, and should probably warrant a trip to the hospital, or at least a while in the park's first aid station, but that's not what OP's original concern was about. Just simply graying out (or "nearly graying out," as the OP described it), and getting a slight tingle feeling in your feet for a split second on Inverts is really nothing to be worried about. Maybe for a heart patient or a pregnant woman it's something to worry about (hence the warnings posted outside of every ride entrance), and I know this very well because I have to watch what my dad rides because he had bypass surgery, but not for your average person with no medical conditions. Would the state approve of and sign off on these rides if there were major long term effects from these G forces, even to the average person with no problems? I highly doubt it. I'll end on that note.

I know where your trying to come from, but your not comparing like with like. Some of you may like to imagine your highly exciting and sexy fighter pilots, but in general, coaster enthusiasts are not. They experience high G, but do not black out all that often. They are trained not to (as in recognize the limits and not go beyond it). What good is a blacked out pilot in a dogfight or evasive maneuvering? If he blacks out, he probably dies. And like you said, they have pressure suits. They also have superior physical fitness and training, all things the average coaster rider does not have. If your average Joe blacks out on a ride after a few seconds of mid-level G (which most healthy people should be able to take), that could indicate a underlying issue he should make himself (or herself) aware of. And if there is an issue, pushing it to unconsciousness is probably a bad idea. Im not saying thats definitely whats up with these people, but its smarter to get it checked than not. I figure its only sensible. G forces are G forces. They still have "blood being drained from their head" regularly, for a lack of a better way of putting it, no matter how trained, physically fit, pressurized, etc. they are. Just because they don't black/grey out doesn't mean it isn't happening. They just have a higher tolerance from constantly experiencing it. Most likely nothing is wrong when it happens on a coaster, other than the fact the rider is maybe a little dehydrated. With all the high prices at parks, and most people not knowing you can just go up to a food stand and ask for water, it's not uncommon for someone to become a little dehydrated by day's end. When the average person sleeps, the circulation in their arm(s) gets cut off all the time. Is that a reason for you to get your arms checked out regularly? No.

Heh, funny you should create this thread, as I watched it all day long leading up to the new episode. I had heard of the show before, but this was the first time I actually watched it. I instantly became a fan!

That was the fun of it. It NEVER looked stable. The ride always seemed more wild and out of control than it actually was because the support structure looked and felt so unstable. It also could just be an optical illusion considering only one side has a catwalk and railing, whereas on most (if not all) other wooden coasters, they are on both sides. But considering the ride has been standing since 1938, I think it'll be just fine.

I have a Samsung Glyde I like it, it gets the job done. I think, though, that in a year when my contract is up I'll be ready to move on.

Something you can try is a technique utilized by fighter pilots. The moment you start to experience a grey out, or even some positive Gs, tighten your stomach muscles as tight as you can comfortably get them. It works great for me...both stops my grey outs and returns my sight almost instantaneously.
-
It's common occurrence. The blood rushes away from your head when you experience positive Gs, causing you to lose vision. I have to support my one foot with the other foot, sort of like crossing my ankles, on Raptor's ending helix because they would hurt a bit also if I didn't. It doesn't happen to me on many coasters, just a select few. To name a couple, Millennium in the back and Goliath (SFMM).

Cedar Point (CP) Discussion Thread
FeelTheFORCE replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Regardless of whether they have the most coasters or not, Cedar Point will still be Cedar Point. Magic Mountain being clear across the entire country, I don't think they have anything to worry about when it comes to losing visitors. And besides, who said the title "America's Roller Coast" means that you have the most coasters? Having a LOT can still warrant that title... -

In the same regard, I wouldn't want Cedar Point to mindlessly build coasters just to have the title, when there could be better options for rides out there. -
^ They priced them way too high. The sad part is, they know people will pay it...and they will. $30 for two map packs is ridiculous. ^^ That sucks, aside from a select few guns (I'm talking maybe only two or three) I usually have no problem killing people in BFBC2. Works fine for me.

There's your problem, you rode in the back! Mantis is only as good as about "meh" to average in the back, even when trim-less, in my opinion. Next time, I'd suggest a front row ride, or at least no further back than the 3rd or 4th row, as it's a pretty big difference, at least to me. Regarding the seats locking, that's strange. I rode it a good 5-10 times when I was there 2 weeks or so ago, and every single time the ride op said "Seats locking in 3, 2, 1!" and if someone was stuck in a weird position, they would not let the train dispatch and unlock it to fix it. As a matter of fact, I don't recall ever riding it where they didn't say that. Not saying you're wrong, just very strange, as that's very unlike the Mantis crew. Great pictures and awesome TR! I agree about the front row rides on TTD and Millennium. Definite musts at one point in time for CP fans!

I have since switched to Battlefield Bad Company 2. I find that much more enjoyable, considering you can solve the camping problem very quickly and easily by just simply blowing up the building they are in, or calling a mortar strike right on their face. In all seriousness, BFBC2 is a very fun and well-rounded game. I don't play it as much as I did a couple months ago, but it's a game I can always go back to.

I sold mine weeks ago. I hate MW2, it's way more frustrating than enjoyable.

^ Forget about June, when I was there May 25th Mantis was PLASTERED with bugs, lol. -

Hence why I said "since Robb first rode it," which was well before the trims were added (about 1.5 to 2 months). Regarding the "risk" aspect, I think you took my comment too literal. Of course they do extensive testing and years of research before building, as lives could possibly be at stake if something fails. That doesn't disregard the fact that 9 of the top 13 fastest coasters are Intamin, and 7 of the top 10 tallest coasters are Intamin. How is that not taking some risks? -

Intamin has always been a company known to take risks, and I'm happy they do that. If they didn't, the industry would get boring and it would be cookie-cutter after cookie-cutter, year after year. With Intamin, parks have someone to contract to build something that will "put their park on the map," if you will, and give that park a "wow factor." Don't get me wrong, B&M, S&S, Premier, etc. all make great rides, but I don't see as many people scrambling to get down to Carowinds as they are for KD. Not to mention, it's lucky the Carowinds thread stays on the first page, this thread seems as if it's been at the top since Robb first rode I305. -

^ Knowing Cedar Point, it would probably be the tallest and fastest of it's kind, lol. I remember hearing that also. It's possible considering Griffon at BGE opened in Spring 2007 and the Le Mans ride that was taken out for Griffon operated all the way until July 5th in 2006. Again though, Kinzel himself said that "there is more to thrill rides than roller coasters," so that leads me to believe that it's not a coaster...at least not a major one (not ruling out a Ball Coaster). -

Those look more like cheap, low capacity carnival rides than anything Cedar Point would get. Who knows, though, anyone's guess is fair game right now. I'm still betting on a large Disk-O or the Intamin Ball Coaster. -
^^ I'd suggest RDR. ACII is a great game, but once you beat it there isn't anything else worthwhile to do. Mine has been collecting dust for months. At least you'll have decent replay value with RDR...not to mention it's a great game as well!

^ I have also heard reports that the crew does an excellent job and really hauls ass, and a full queue is only 45 minutes. Could that be the case instead?
