  1. Not necessarily. I went a few years ago during peak season in July and Lex Luthor was closed for routine maintenance, as well as Scream only running one train.
  2. What's wrong with wanting to produce a quality product that stands out from the rest?
  3. If I owned a $1200 drone, I would want to make sure I was fairly knowledgeable on the regs. Honestly, what's the difference if you see it up close earlier versus later? Are people really losing sleep over whether ledgers are facing one way or another?
  4. Eh, I don't know man. I'm a car guy myself and I've come across some awfully stuck up and obnoxious people in the car world. It's probably the hobby where I've encountered that the most, to be honest. Anyway, I think the superior quality of TPR and their trips/events over the years honestly speak for themselves, and speak way louder than any negativity thrown at them. There is always going to be people trying to bring others down, but the product Robb and Elissa put on the table seems to be second to none, and kudos to them for what they put up with. I've only met Robb once, but even though he was incredibly busy in the middle of filming stuff for the Travel Channel, he still stopped to shake my hand, say hello, and make some small talk. A real stand-up guy. One thing I never understood is the amount of energy people put into hating on others. I understand that not everything is everyone's cup of tea, and that's fine, but if "Stan G" spent the time and energy doing something more productive like maybe helping out those less fortunate than he is instead of writing long and unnecessary hate rants about TPR, the world would be a better place.
  5. Meh, I've given Viper many chances and never liked it. The last few rows are mediocre at best to me. Photogenic or not, good riddance I say.
  6. Combine this with the fact that closing it on opening night of Halloweekends drummed up excitement about the future of the ride, got a lot of people to show up on a day that would have otherwise been relatively slow and allowed them to have a cool tie in with the kick off of their Halloween event and closing it when they did was a great idea regardless of the construction timeline. This. The money saved by not having to run/maintain it for an extra month was just a bonus.
  7. Good launch, great back spike, and some strong forces...I know it isn't as complete as other coasters, but I'd never consider WT mediocre. Same. WT is a hidden gem that I always ride multiple times every time I go to CP. The experience you get from sitting towards the back isn't like much else.
  8. The best part about the positioning of those cameras is imagining all the innocent, unknowing people who are excited to go back to Cedar Point, so they check the cameras every so often to see what's up, and see all Skyride all the time.
  9. I think there's a difference between a park trying to theme something but failing or doing so badly, and just not giving a crap at all. I don't know of anyone who goes to parks like SFMM or CP for the theming, nor do those parks claim to be well-themed. When I go to a park that's strictly thrill-based, I definitely have a much different mindset going in, than going to, say Disneyland.
  10. I've never had any problems carrying my phone on any ride in a buttoned/zippered cargo pocket, which I've been doing since at least 2003 when TTD opened.
  11. Those metal detectors are such an inconvenience. We've decided to skip Universal for a few years and go somewhere else until they remove them.
  12. Sends from where? These projects are largely bid on and physically constructed by local companies. It's not like Cedar Fair has one specific "dream team" they send around the country to build project after project...although Tony is always an allstar. I'm sure they're working around the clock as it is. I'd bet there will be many, many 15+ hour days put in by all on this project, and you want them to just crack that whip and put in 20 hours a day. There's only so much time in a day, it's not a matter of writing a bigger check to get them to work more hours. That's not even mentioning the impending winter weather on the horizon.
  13. That doesn't really mean anything. Millennium Force, Wicked Twister and Top Thrill Dragster were all added in a span of 3 out of 4 years. Cedar Point will add what they deem appropriate.
  14. Not taking away from the brilliant CP or RMC engineers and what they can come up with, but I feel like if Mean Streak would have 15 inversions, there would no doubt be sections of track that would have inversions shoe-horned in just for the sake of beating a record. I'd rather have those sections utilized a little bit better.
  15. Rumors say it's for 2018, not next year, but you never know. I do wonder how much the economy plays into this. Given the fact that it's an election year, and many businesses are scaling back in general. My work has laid off close to a quarter of their staff in the past 6 months or so because of it. How does the projected 2017 year so far compare to the worst year around the 2008 recession? Personally, I use "down years" to return to somewhere I've been dying to revisit, go to places I've never been, and/or finally get that noteworthy coaster everyone's been raving about for years, whether it's 10 years old or 2 years old.
  16. That is true, it's not difficult to find a company's DOT number online or from other truck pictures. However, while I wouldn't put it past some bored enthusiast, getting the correct DOT number also is going to some pretty great lengths just to play a practical joke. Just saying. Time will tell.
  17. If anyone wants to check out the DOT number for themselves, this is the site to do it. https://safer.fmcsa.dot.gov/companysnapshot.aspx
  18. Well you still never know. Either way, RMC or something else, another signature-style coaster at Kennywood sure would be a nice addition.
  19. If true, we could be looking at a potential *signature* attraction that "puts them on the map," per se. Something we haven't seen from Kennywood in over 15 years. Exciting stuff!
  20. I remember watching it test with the heartline roll and that was one wicked transition. I don't think I've ever seen a coaster traverse an inversion that quick before.
  21. I've noticed a palpable "too cool for school" fringe among young employees in Pittsburgh, in all kinds of jobs, from retail to customer service. I can't tell you how many times I've had orders screwed up at stores and restaurants by a mumbling Slim Shady kid, or a high school junior who flirts with a girl throughout my entire transaction. Kennywood doesn't import European employees like Hershey and Cedar Point do, so I believe it has to make do with local applicants. Two years ago, I witnessed the Sky Rocket dispatcher passively say to another operator, "Okay, just lemme finish this page" -- she was doing homework on the job while the trains stacked. Things could and should improve, but I don't blame Kennywood for not being able to totally wring those tendencies out of the local teens. At the same time, like PennStater pointed out, there are examples of caring, fast-moving employees at Kennywood, and I don't want to forget about them because of a few bad apples. Pittsburgh is an odd place...it culturally stands alone, for better or worse, with few cultural imports or exports. The city is a weird combination of a beautiful skyline, famous sports teams, great museums, food, schools, technology, banking, and Kennywood ...but also some sketchy neighborhoods and "Walmart people" Appalachian vibes that don't foster courteous efficiency as a virtue. I also think that the huge focus on youth sports in the area grows early egos in kids when they're 14 or 15, and when that sets the tone for what's cool, you don't get humble, fast-moving employees. You could say this about almost all of the youth throughout the country today. That sense of entitlement is everywhere. I wouldn't say it's just a problem in Pittsburgh, Kennywood just so happens to be located right in the middle of one of those areas, so you experience it full-force.
  22. I would rather see them create a custom RMC from the ground up, as briefly discussed last year as well. Kennywood has done so well with keeping that traditional feel, but still with a few modern flares spread around the park. In my opinion, touching any of their current coasters would go against their whole shtick of being a "traditional" theme park. But you never know.
  23. Some prices will probably quietly rise in other areas to compensate. Whether it's food, merch, whatever.
