Kings Island (KI) Discussion Thread

I think Ninja might be the most underrated coaster I've ever ridden (though I've only been on about 200). I think besides Apocalypse, Batman and Tatsu it's the best ride in the park, and while it's not going to make any Top 20 lists it's a great coasters with a very unique layout. -

I agree that Ninja is better than the Bat, but the Bat is a solid coaster and one of the best in the park. -
Best GCI Woody

Right now it's apocalypse, but I'm making my first trip to Dollywood in the next few weeks so that may be changing. -
I have to go with Cedar Point here. I don't like to call myself a Cedar Point fanboy because I feel like that label implies that I'm not open minded about other parks and rank rides at Cedar Point more highly than I should. I think I'm very open minded about all parks but for some reason, the coasters at Cedar Point really appeal to me. Even though I've been on over 200 coasters... 4 of the coasters in my top 10 are at Cedar Point. My girlfriend and I spent 3 days at Cedar Point this summer and we both loved it. They probably have the best location of any park in the US, and with the hotels and restaurants outside the park (most with Lake Erie views) it really has the vibe of a vacation resort (not on the same planet as Disney but not too shabby). When you combine that with world class thrill rides it's going to appeal to me much more than a Disney style family park even though they're killing Cedar Point in every other department (except for their natural location). If I had a family this wouldn't even be a debate, but even though Cedar Point is far from perfect their awesome location, solid flat ride line-up and outstanding coaster collection put them on top for me. And even though their food sucks compared to the food at Disney (or really anywhere else), you can get great food on the peninsula if you leave the park and walk for a few minutes. Again... Disney kills them in this department, but this isn't important enough to me that it's going to put them over the top.

I'm not sure why we're talking about flyers but I'll throw my 2 cents in. I think the Vekoma flying coasters are miles ahead of the Superman clones which are some of the most boring adult steel coasters on the planet. I'll never understand the popularity of these coasters but the lines are always huge. I don't hate B&M flyers as a whole (I'm a huge fan of Tatsu) but those Superman clones are a snooze fest. -

No way it's a new coaster. They wouldn't be announcing that at this stage of the game. It's probably something for their 40th anniversary celebration. -

That's a great picture too. All I said was that I don't remember seeing a picture like that but I'm sure there are plenty out there... it's still really cool though, especially since the lift goes through it. I'm really excited for this coaster. -

That's a really great photo. I don't ever remember seeing a coaster picture taken from that angle (for obvious reasons as that's always going to be a restricted area). -
Lagoon Discussion Thread

Given that we know very little intrinsically about the ride, this is naturally the intelligent course of action. Thanks for your contribution. If you read through my posts, you'll see that I rarely speculate on a ride before it opens but to me it just seems like they're cutting costs in every way possible and yes... I think this will be reflected in the final product. People keep bringing up Bombora but designing a family coaster in house and designing a 200+ foot coaster in house are two totally different things. Steel Force, Mamba and Wild Thing (all 200 foot coasters) all cost exactly the same amount of money and they were built back in the mid 1990's. I know those will probably end up with longer track lengths, but it's hard to be overly confident when it's the same price as hypercoasters built 20 years earlier and less than half the price of your average modern 200 foot coaster. Bombora and even Wicked are basically products of the same system, albeit with fabrication done in different places. Both are very good rides. Since Lagoon doesn't need to make a profit off of constructing this ride, their end costs have a great likelihood to be lower. They are in the rare situation of having a creative engineer who can design these sorts of attractions working for them, which is something the overwhelming majority of amusement and theme parks lack. As I said previously, we have very little info about what the end product is going to resemble or do other than some rumor filled posts on the internet. So to say that it is "a foregone conclusion that is going to suck" is premature at best, and at worst a product of the internet's demand to have people with shocking levels of ignorance demand to be heard in the loudest possible way. It must be the offseason if we're so bored that we keep going back and fourth on this. lol. It's obvious that what I'm saying is blatant speculation based on the information about how the ride is being built, but without speculation we would have nothing to talk about on a coaster message board all winter. I always do my best to keep it to a minimum but when I hear about a ride being designed for a ridiculously low cost by someone in house, it's hard for me not to speculate... even with very little additional information. We can agree to disagree on this one, if construction goes smoothly and the ride is great then I'll owe you an apology, but I don't think this is going to be the case. That's just my personal opinion. -
The Most Shocking Ride Removals
coasterbill replied to Kingsislandfreak's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
There's nothing shocking about any arrow looper getting removed. -
I know this is off topic but I'll come out of the Gatekeeper closet right now... I had low expectations for that ride and it's now in my top 10. I've been on over 200 coasters which isn't a lot compared to a lot of people, but it's enough where gatekeeper wouldn't normally be in your top 10. I thought it was really cool and have no idea why wingriders get such a bad reputation.

I feel like it's almost a foregone conclusion that this ride is going to suck... especially after a few years. A 200+ foot coaster should not cost 10 million dollars (we all know it's going over budget but that shouldn't EVER be the projected cost), and using an elevator lift is just asking for trouble. -
What area really needs a theme park?
coasterbill replied to let1gre's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
They're only an hour and a half from Great Escape. I think that's close enough, especially because Lake Placid isn't really a major metro area. -
I think one of the most interesting things about this hobby is how everyone has a few coasters that they absolutely love that most other people completely overlook when ranking their favorite coasters. The thing that makes this story really interesting is that most people go into a ride with average expectations and are blown away by it which is how this ends up happening. In this case Cheetah Hunt (of all coasters) was #1 on your radar and managed to exceed your expectations. I think that's really cool since it's really not a typical "destination coaster", it seemed like you were setting yourself up for a letdown and I'm so glad that's not what happened.

Roller Coaster Rankings
coasterbill replied to Jackdude101's topic in Roller Coaster Games, Models, and Other Randomness
You should create a new rule that any classic wood coaster now running a Morgan train is immediately deleted from the list. I almost fell out of my chair when I saw that the Dragon Coaster and the KIDDY COASTER at Rye Playland was on your original wood coaster list but Phoenix wasn't... I see that it's on there now because of the historical value score but if that's the only reason Phoenix is appearing on a list of top wood coasters then you need to re-consider the way you're calculating this. It's very cool, but it needs a lot of tweaking. I'm glad you fixed that problem with Kiddy coaster, but the fact that the Dragon Coaster is still on the list tells me there's a major problem. That's a glorified kiddy coaster. -
Official RCT/RCT2 Help Thread
coasterbill replied to Stoksy's topic in Roller Coaster Games, Models, and Other Randomness
I'm having an issue I've never had before. I have a park, I haven't made any real changes lately with trainers / new rides or anything and a few seconds in I ALWAYS get an error trapper. I'm running RCT2 on Windows 7 the same way I have been for years. Lately I'm getting more and more error trappers in all of my parks but in this particular situation it's happening at exactly the same time every time I load the file. In this case I don't really care, it's just a saved game in my Sunset Valley park... I'm just playing around, not adding anything. But I want to figure out why it's happening so that it doesn't happen when I'm building a park that I'll end up having to delete because it gets to a certain point and always shows an error trapper. Any help would be much appreciated. -

I would almost always (selfishly) agree, but this park seriously needs to expand the water park. If you really look at what this water park has to offer you'll realize that it's easily the worst water park in the chain... and possibly at any major corporate theme park in the country.
