The "Oh Sh*^" moments vs. a good ride
coasterbill replied to Skramp's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
To each his own, I think the best part of Zumanjaro is when you realize you're still falling and if you have your legs out it feels like they're about ready to rip off. In my opinion the anticipation isn't on the same level as Demon Drop and the drop doesn't hit you as quickly or stop as suddenly as a Larson tower but the length of the drop is really cool because it feels like you're dropping forever. -

I actually think the drop tower with the best "holy sh!t" moment of anticipation is Demon Drop. I don't know why, but nothing else comes close. -

I agree with this... there's no real formula for what makes a coaster awesome, it just depends what you like. There are plenty of coasters with absolutely no "Oh Sh!t" moments that I love like Millennium Force... then again every coaster that I consider to be loaded with them (Maverick, Skyrush and El Toro for example) are near the top of my list also. The only coasters with great "Oh Sh!t" moments that I don't like are Goliath at SFNE and X2 because as awesome as the first drop on both of those coasters is, the rest of the ride sucks. -

This is all I can find. It sounds like TGI Fridays is fine so nothing of value was lost. -

That would be near impossible. They still have to replace brakes, replace a lot of station, and I'm sure a lot more. He wasn't being serious... they're obviously not really trying to do that. -

I guess I prefer Mantis to Green Lantern but I really hate both of them. -

If you want water why not just go to any food stand in the park and ask for a cup of water? It's free at every major theme park in North America as far as I know and it's usually very good (though the parks really don't want people to know that trick). I do that multiple times a day at every park I visit and it always works. -
They were bought from Military surplus, they were used during such conflicts as the gulf war. I have no idea who did the conversion. Very Six Flag-ish Why? That's actually awesome... and you really need military vehicles for the punishment they put them through. The road out to the Safari is really, really rough. I'll be the first one to bash Six Flags but Safari Off Road Adventure is amazing... they did everything right with that ride (except for Camp Aventura which looks like crap). It was a nightmare when it first opened but since they've got the kinks worked out it's been an awesome addition.

Knoebels Discussion Thread

So does anyone know what Knoebels rain policy is? It looks like it might rain for PPP but if they don't care (and I assume they don't because they're cool like that), then we don't either. -

The Log Flume and River Rapids were both open this weekend... the Log Flume just looks drained from the top of the hill (by Hydra) because as soon as they shut the pumps off the water all makes it's way to the bottom. The flume closes at 5pm this time of year though... we rode it twice on Saturday. I was surprised to see the rapids open as they're the wettest rapids I've ever seen. I don't recommend anyone riding these unless they're in a bathing suit. I'm not sure if they're always open this time of year or if they just opened them because it was unseasonably warm but there were a lot of people riding them. White Water Landing is closed for the season as it's station is part of a Haunt maze. -

Crap, I should have sent you a PM but totally forgot you were going to Dorney on Saturday. We were going to go to Six Flags but 80 degree weather on a Fright Fest Saturday we decided last minute that we didn't want to be anywhere near the place and spent the day at Dorney (actually from open to close which we hadn't planned on but we were having a great time). I was very impressed with Dorney's haunt and loved that even the Haunt attractions topped out at 30 minute waits. Our experience was the same as yours... the longest lines of the day were 20 minutes for Steel Force and the Thunder Creek Mountain log flume. Hydra, Posessed and Talon were between 10 minutes and complete walk on all day. Great report! -

You're absolutely right about that so I should rephrase that and say that Raptor should be open tonight as it's listed on the website as being open and was open 2 weeks ago on Friday night but of course there's no guarantee. I know they have quite a few mechanical problems on Haloweekends Fridays (for example, Millennium Force is closed now and is expected to be closed all night) so you never know. EDIT: Raptor is open... thanks cool new webcam. Just happened to look at it for some reason and it caught a train at the bottom of the drop. -
Lines will be unimaginably awful (possibly between 2 and 3 hours the major coasters). We're going too but we're absolutely getting a Flash Pass. The good news is that all attractions should be open except the water rides. I can't help you with the haunted attractions unfortunately but I can tell you that they're pretty much all an additional charge.

I believe you of course but I'm going to go out on a limb and blame wind or something... Raptor is most definitely open on Friday nights. -
Adventureland Long Island!

I've never been to this park but we're planning on heading out there in a few weeks to ride Hurricane. They used to have one at Rye Playland which is the park I basically grew up with so I'm looking forward to riding one again. Great report by the way. -

So it looks like Cedar Point is updating all of their webcams and adding a new one. They're in the process of adding a 3rd camera on the main midway and all 3 cameras will have live streams and the old style still images. Link. Personally I love the new camera since it probably won't move very much and we all know that Sky Ride cam is the best cam. -
Your Dream Park

What about this... Millennium Force Kumba Maverick Phoenix El Toro I really want to put an invert in there but I don't want to remove anything on the list so I guess I'll do without one. The other problem is if I did add an invert it would be Raptor and then my park would basically be Cedar Point with good wood coasters and Kumba so that wouldn't be very imaginative. Also... there would be a lot of enthusiast bitching in my park due to the complaints about Millennium Force being forceless, Kumba being rough and Maverick needing new restraints even though none of those things are true. That's why I added El Toro and Phoenix because I figured it would shut everyone up. -
I'm not sure but if they don't that's hilarious. I feel bad for Dorney, they build huge queue lines for everything and add this cool Fastlane system like they're expecting people to actually show up one day and we all know it's never going to happen (in the dry park). If they don't allow re-entry because they're (presumably) worried about hitting capacity I'd just feel sorry for them.

That's ridiculous... This is the list of rides OPEN on Friday nights. It was updated last month per the URL and all of these rides were open last Friday. Link Blue Streak Cadillac Cars Cedar Downs Dodgem GateKeeper Iron Dragon Kiddie Kingdom (seven rides) Lake Erie Eagles Magnum XL-200 Matterhorn Maverick maXair Mean Streak Millennium Force Midway Carousel Monster Ocean Motion Pipe Scream Planet Spooky Power Tower Raptor Scrambler Skyhawk SlingShot Top Thrill Dragster Wave Swinger Wicked Twister WindSeeker So the only coasters that are closed are Cedar Creek Mine Ride, Mantis, Corkscrew, Gemeni and the Kids coasters. Raptor is the 3rd most popular coaster in the park after Gatekeeper and Millennium Force... why would they close that on Fridays? lol
