Carowinds Discussion Thread
coasterbill replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Not busy. Today is a beautiful Friday and if you check out the Fury Cam you'll see it's only a stair wait. Besides the waterpark, Carowinds is only busy on Saturdays and during Scarowinds. Expect waits for Nighthawk and Ricochet but you'll have no problem getting tons of rides and re-rides in on Fury, Afetrburn and Intimidator (if you care). Of course a bunch of random groups can change things but I highly, highly doubt it. -

I'll take "Rebuilt Hurler" for 2017, Alex Unfortunately I won't. I wasn't the only one that saw this, right? The epitome of coaster enthusiast complaints. "My home park got something but I won't accept it." I don't know how I missed that. -

The post you were referring to was well structured and didn't real strike me as complaining. There's nothing wrong with stating a personal opinion and basically wrapping it in compliments. There's a big difference between that and the incoherent bitching about everything that happens within the enthusiast community more often than not. Awesome! Hi G. I never noticed you were on TPR. -

I agree completely. PS: Is this "G Force" of "This style of realism is getting old we only like people who directly copy Robbie" fame? -

I normally hate ultra specific predictions but I'll break my own rule... I feel like if you guys get an invert it'll be Flight Deck from Canada's Wonderland. I feel like removing that and Time Warp makes a ton of sense since it opens up a ton of room and then they can send Flight Deck to VF since they don't have an invert and Time Warp to a park like Dorney or Michigan's Adventure because most people in those markets (excluding enthusiasts) wouldn't know better. I hope that doesn't happen of course. I just think it makes too much sense for them not to do something like that. -
Kings Dominion (KD) Discussion Thread

Fine, I don't agree but it's up for debate. My main point is that I don't think you understand what "in jest" means. That tends to happen at Knoebels. Those flyers are the cream of the crop. If you ask me, Kings Dominion is still a better park than Kings Island even after Banshee, so just give KI some time to catch up. Only 3 posts total? Signs point to this being a troll post I don't think it's a troll post. And actually I agree with it. Kings Island may have a better coaster collection (though KD has the best coaster overall) but KD's is quite good too. More importantly though Kings Dominion is a very, very nice park. It's much more heavily wooded on the main midway and over by Shenandoah Lumber Company and the car ride and it has a really nice feel to it. When I was on the main midway at KI I legitimately felt like it was just a crappy imitation of the one at Kings Dominion (I don't believe that's the case but that's how it felt). From a personal standpoint (even though I know I'm in the minority) if the KI rumors are true it would probably put Kings Dominion even further ahead of Kings Island for me as it would mean even less trees in a park that gets very hot and to add insult to injury no log flume to cool you off. If I had to pick between a log flume and a GCI I'd pick the flume 100% of the time. I know most people don't agree and that's okay... but it's my personal opinion of the 2 parks. Overall though I just come back to the fact that Kings Dominion is nicer. Kings Island feels like an asphalt park out in the hot sun. Kings Dominion is very wooded and has a great "Old Virginia" vibe. Aesthetically I've always thought that KD was underrated. Probably because Busch Gardens is right up the road but KD really holds it's own. -
I'm really glad someone appreciated that. I was proud of that one.

Wait... Are you saying The Beast is better than anything at Cedar Point? Or just better than their woodies? (I'd still disagree that it's better than Blue Streak, but to each their own.) I just want to make sure before I quote your post, in proving my point in the "Most Overrated Coasters" thread about The Beast... To be fair, I love Cedar Point and Maverick and Millennium Force are both in my top 5 coasters but the Beast at night is the best coaster experience I've ever had. During the day it's very mediocre but I'd take a Beast night ride over anything Cedar Point has and I LOVE Cedar Point. It's probably my favorite park not named Knoebels. To each his own of course. -

There is no way they are removing rebel yell AND hurler. Rebel yell is a classic. Plus those two coasters are the only real airtime focused coasters in the park... Oh and Also not only is this wrong but the park wouldn't care even if it wasn't. I also just wanted to give you a friendly reminder that I305 and Grizzly exist. I've never gotten any airtime on Rebel Yell or Hurler ever. I get more airtime on Dominator coming out of the midcourse. -

What's a blitz coaster?!? That's what RCDB refers to these as. I rarely see the term used though. lol -

That has nothing to do with stacking. Parks never run more trains than a ride needs to be efficient unless the crews suck or are understaffed and the park's have unrealistic expectations (Bizarro at Great Adventure) . Depending on the ride a lot of them can and do have more than one train on the course at a time. Intamin Blitz coasters which you seem to have zero understanding of are some of these coasters. Cheetah Hunt has a MCBR and Maverick does too at the launch tunnel so it can have multiple trains on the circuit at the same time and they always do... and Maverick has a pre-lift block and 2 load stations. Maverick does not have a stacking problem. They never have to wait for the ride. They have a great crew and pretty much dispatch as fast as people can get loaded, checked and cleared. Sure it has a long final brake (B-R-A-K-E) run but the ride vehicles just roll right down the first half of it most of the time because of the efficiency of the crew. There are generally 2 trains in the final brakes by the time the trains ahead are cleared which is what they want because they roll them both in together. They load 2 trains and dispatch 2 trains at the same time. Dragster does the same thing. -

Dragster has a separate unload platform so you're almost never stopped in the brake run. Having a lot of trains has nothing to do with stacking unless the crew sucks. Maverick runs tons of trains and stacking is minimal. Bizarro at Six Flags New England runs 2 trains and stacks like it's an Olympic sport. -

I don't think anyone was worried about missing out on the scenery at Six Flags America. I'll say this though, we rode Goliath at La Ronde with and without the VR and we thought the gimmick was sort of cool but we much preferred riding without it. So to each his own... at least at SFA dispatch times are already horrible and crowds are light so it won't mess things up quite as bad there as it will in parks that get more crowded like Six Flags New England.

I hope you're right. The entrance just seems really far from the path and the ride doesn't have any good visuals (though they can fix that problem... plus the Beast has proven that that's not entirely necessary. One thing that gives this some credibility is that the transfer track is already near a pathway that you can get vehicles on without having to build much of an access road to take trains off for winter rehab (though with my plan the pathway you have to build for the ride anyway solves that problem. I still think I'm right, but I hope you are. -

They got a great addition this year. You have the most intense giga coaster on earth and they're taking the worst coaster in the park and making it good (though we don't know all the details) which is basically like getting a new coaster. Plus you're getting a new GCI an hour up the road. Stop whining.
