Hersheypark (HP) Discussion Thread

Hurry! If everything is actually open they’re due to break something else for 3 months. -
Skull Mountain looks like crap this year. The curtain is pulled back so it's not even dark in there, there's no music, they forgot to plug in any of the theming that they bought at Spirit Halloween on 11/1 for 50% off. It's like they don't even care. I'm glad this is a thing. Bring this ride back to it's typical brilliance, please.

We ended up putting that trip I just posted about off by a few weeks so we could be home for Father's day. Joke's on me... Thunderbolt and Steel Curtain are down now. I'll try to finally go here in another 5 years when they manage to have all of their coasters open at the same time for like 3 days before they break another one for a year. -

Yeah, Storm Runner is open. This is a good year to go to Hershey. The coasters aren’t all open obviously because it’s Hershey and that would throw the universe out of whack, but this year’s customary “Hersheypark coaster that’s closed for way longer than it should be just because that’s how Hersheypark rolls” is Trailblazer and nobody cares about Trailblazer. -
If the Carousel is saved I could actually see it going somewhere other than a theme park. I almost wonder if this piece of land could turn into one of those "Live" centers that cities love to build near sports stadiums (La Live, Philly Live, Texas Live, etc) and in that case it might even stay exactly where it is. It could go literally anywhere.

Normally I don’t like when this happens and everyone speculates about who’s getting what because everyone just picks their favorite park (example: Railblazer could go almost anywhere), but Flight Deck is an interesting case because there are actually very few options. Look, I get that this chain now has 3 parks that feature a B&M hyper and a B&M giga so I guess theoretically they could put 2 inverts in the same park but assuming they don’t do that there’s not much. The only parks without an invert of any kind are Kings Dominion and Valleyfair. Michigan’s Adventure and Canada’s Wonderland have inverts but they’re SLCs. Let’s eliminate Michigan’s Adventure because I think we can all agree that it’s not going there, Flight Deck (if not scrapped) is almost definitely going to one of three parks. I feel like Dominion is a heavy favorite, though Wonderland wouldn’t shock me either. They could either remove those two pieces of crap that are right next to eachother that I’ve wanted them to remove forever or just keep them both and add this anyway because they need all of the capacity that they can get. Maybe they can be the only park in the world with dueling Flight Decks. I vote for KD though if they don’t scrap it (which is also very likely).

California's Great America to Close within 11 years SANDUSKY, Ohio--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- Cedar Fair, L.P. (NYSE: FUN), a leader in regional amusement parks, water parks and immersive entertainment, today announced it has sold the land at its California’s Great America amusement park and plans to close the park. Cedar Fair elected to sell the land to Prologis, Inc. (NYSE: PLD), a Bay Area-based logistics real estate company, for approximately $310 million with a lease agreement. The Company will continue to operate the park for a period of up to 11 years and then will close existing park operations at the end of the lease term. The land sale, which was marketed by CBRE, was the outcome of a strategic review initiated by Cedar Fair in 2021 to explore potential avenues to maximize the value of the Company’s extensive asset portfolio. Cedar Fair purchased the land at California’s Great America in 2019 from the City of Santa Clara after the State of California dissolved redevelopment agencies, requiring the city to cede its ownership of the property to pay off existing debt. Prior to that transaction, the Company leased the land from the City for more than 40 years. Cedar Fair intends to use proceeds from the land sale transaction to accelerate progress on its strategic priorities of reducing debt to achieve its $2 billion target, investing in high-return projects within its portfolio such as upgrading resort properties, and reinstating a sustainable unitholder distribution. Based on the strength and pace of the recovery since reopening its parks in 2021, and due to the additional capital raised through the Great America transaction, Cedar Fair expects to reinstate quarterly unitholder distributions by the third quarter of 2022, subject to review and approval by the Cedar Fair Board of Directors. “We chose Prologis as our partner because of their deep ties in the Bay Area and their reputation for working closely with local communities on large developments,” said Cedar Fair President and CEO Richard A. Zimmerman. “For our investors, the sale and lease agreements allow us to monetize a high-value asset in the heart of Silicon Valley at a very attractive multiple. The transaction also provides us with a substantial sum of incremental capital which we intend to use to further advance our strategic priorities and generate enhanced returns for our unitholders.” Cedar Fair

Steel Vengeance crashed and opened a few hours later. It's Ohio. As for everything else that you said, just because we only saw a photo of one piece of damaged track doesn't mean that's all there is. I wouldn't be surprised if this ride opens in the next few days, I also wouldn't be surprised if it doesn't open until next season. Nobody is going to be able to get anywhere near this thing until it reopens just because of it's location so we're just making assumptions based on 3 photos. -

Technically the answer to your question is no, but often when a weather app says 15-20 mph winds the wind gusts are higher than that. If you're looking at one of the next few days, then it looks like gusts could be around 30. Sky Ride and Windseeker will probably be down but you probably don't care. You should ride Raptor and Gatekeeper ASAP when you see them running just to be on the safe side. If they're testing early I would actually throw normal strategy aside entirely and ride them first. Otherwise, you'll probably be fine if nothing changes. -
Thanks everyone! Quick update to this... Delta changed our flight by 2 hours, giving me the opportunity to switch the days for free so now we're there Friday through Monday instead of Saturday through Tuesday. We now have two nights for Halloween events but now Oogie Boogie Bash is a possibility with the new days so HHN got cut anyway. We're doing Scary Farm one night and Oogie Boogie Bash another night. I'm pretty thrilled with this new plan.

All rides run during thunderstorms, you just have to sign a waiver and they recommend wearing rubber boots. -

Thanks for the warning! We're going the week before so that won't be an issue for us. -

I've been waiting to go to this place until they actually had all of their coasters open at the same time so long-story-short I've been waiting for like 3 years. I understand that they're Parques Reunidos so there's a 75% chance they'll break one by then and not fix it until Summer 2023, but we're planning on heading out there in two weeks otherwise. Has everything seriously been running aside from the frisbee? That doesn't seem possible. -

Of course the PR director was going to give "PR director" answers during a Q&A session with a bunch of coaster enthusiasts. Did anyone really think he would talk about unannounced major projects or talk about the future of a ride that's going to be the source of tons of lawsuits that almost killed someone that they themselves might not even know the future of? Come on. Of course nothing of substance was going to be discussed, that was not the point.
