Photo TR: Kennywood

I'll tell you how my visit went before I get to the photos. The first thing I did when I arrived to Kennywood was ride Ghostwood Estate. Definitely one of the best interactive dark rides I've ever been on. All the targets worked, there were a lot of CGI's and other cool effects, a good pre-show, and a lot startling stunts and gags. As others have said, you need to ride it several times just to see everything. After riding Ghostwood I went and rode the Thunderbolt, Pitt fall, Phantom, etc. After doing the usual rides, I went back to ride Ghostwood again. This is were it gets interesting. About halfway through the ride, the Mystic Mover suddenly stops, all the effects shut off, the lights turn on, and the lap bar releases. Then Lord Ghostwood's voice tells us over the PA system, "The spirits of this estate are causing us to experience technical difficulties. Please remain seated until one of my personal assistants comes around to help you." Then a park employee walks up, tells us they've had an E-stop, and walks us out of the ride. He then tells us to wait on the loading platform while they fix the problem, which took about 15 minutes. So in a way I got an unofficial walkthrough of Ghostwood estate. Pretty cool, huh?

The weather wasn't very good; it rained on and off all day, but it was still tolerable, and all the rides that were operating that day stayed open, at least until it started storming.

The first thing I did when I got there was ride Ghostwood Estate. I really like how they made the outside look old and run down.

Woo, man am I glad I didn't work today because the weather really looked like it sucked! I worked 10 and half hours yesturday and I was literally freezing my butt off all day and I'm glad I didn't have to go through that again today. As for your report, it looked like you had a pretty nice day other than the crappy weather. Ghostwood Estate looks great and I still can't believe I haven't been able to ride it yet, even though I could technically ride it whenever I wanted...I'll just wait till the weather gets better. Nice report though!

And just as a word of warning, you're probably going to have to resize your pictures which are really big. I think they are bigger than the size limits, but I figured I'd give you a heads up before the mods do.

Yeah, I believe 800x600 is the limit. Great pics, though! Can't wait to get there, possibly next week! Does Ghostwood Estate run in the rain?

One things for sure, Kennywood isn't Cedar Point! Even if its raining, they seem to be pretty good about keeping all the rides open. I mean, it's been pretty rainy the past few days and all the rides seem to remain open. The only time they really close rides during rain is if theres a thunderstorm within a 10 mile radius or something like that, so I'm pretty sure it stays open during rain. I don't see why it wouldn't.

I was there yesterday also, I had a great time even though it rained most of te day, and the Exterminator was not opperating for some reason. I managed to get at least 3 rides on the other 4 coasters though. A lot of the rides seemed to be down King Kahuna, Exterminator, the Phantom was down for a while when the park opened, and the Jackrabbit was down for a good bit also. I was on the Auto Race and the cars kept cutting on and off because of the rain and bad electral connections.

King Kahuna has yet to open this season, I'm really not sure why. I noticed some mechanics working on the restraint system today, but other than that...nothing. I'm really not sure when its going to re-open. Another ride that's been having A LOT of downtown so far since the season started is the Turnpike...Working in front of the park, I've noticed that it's closed at least one time every day this season, some days even breaking down multiple times a day. Not sure what's wrong with it, but it seems a lot of the cars have been dieing lately.

Yeah, they almost never close anything, which is usually a good thing. But i felt bad for a group of riders on the Phantom in August when i went there. They sent a train full of riders out when it was downpouring like there was a hurricane going on. All the people had their heads ducked when i saw them go by the station on the bunny hops.
