SF buys AZ land?

Recommended Posts

OK, just wanted to get this off first... I've been around a long time (1999... for me a long time, lol) so I've usually taken rumors and what not not too seriously, but this just seemed real... so yeah...

We just returned home from Arizona where my Mother will be moving in a few months and during a conversation with our real estate person she mentioned how Six Flags recently purchased land in nearby Surprise, AZ, not too far from Phoenix. Didn't get too much into size and what not, but I just thought ya'll would be interested in hearing that, true or not.

Anyone from that area of AZ around here that would maybe know how to find out if it's legit or not?

For the past few years, rumors have been continuously flying that Six Flags has been looking for a location for a brand new amusement park. Six Flags boasts that its parks are uniquely situated around the country to allow theme park fans to be at a Six Flags park within 3 hours of just about every major metropolitan area in the country. South Florida and central Florida are one of the major areas, but it’s pretty obvious why Six Flags cannot build a park there. Still, one location that seems to have been ignored by theme park companies for years is Phoenix, Arizona. Phoenix has been growing rapidly in the past ten years or so, and would seemingly be a prime spot for a regional theme park. Currently, theme park fans’ only outlet is Castles and Coasters, with its whopping 2 roller coasters, more like an amusement park you would see at the beach. However, Six Flags has made it very clear that it is not interested in building a regional theme park in the Phoenix area, particularly in Surprise, AZ, a town long rumored to be on the Six Flags’ list to receive a theme park. It’s probably no surprise that Six Flags is not interested in building any new theme parks, even in an area where it would practically have a monopoly, since its financial situation is far from adequate to support such a major capital expenditure. The Phoenix area is possibly a perfect spot for a major theme park with great weather year round (it’s a dry heat), and with a good park design with a number of indoor attractions to allow guests to cool off throughout the day, a major theme park chain could survive in the dessert southwest. As it stands now though, Phoenix residents will have to be content with Castles and Coasters, carnivals, and a 400 mile drive to Los Angeles.

Holy Crap...people always told me this when I lived near Surprise from 2004-2006. IT WAS THE MOST ANNOYING THING EVER! Six Flags has giant debts, and building a brand new park costs hundreds of millions, let alone the price of purchasing substantial land in an area where real estate has boomed is insane. Despite news stations and papers telling them there is no truth, people there STILL believed the rumors! People in Phoenix are so freaking stupid. I'm so glad I moved away from there. My head almost exploded from the stupidity, ignorance and rudeness.

PLEASE, FOR THE LOVE OF ALL THAT IS GOOD IN THE WORLD, TELL EVERYONE YOU KNOW IN PHOENIX THERE IS NO TRUTH BEHIND THE RUMORS!

I'm really getting tired of those rumors. I keep telling people that Six Flags cannot afford to build a new park from scratch. Like said before they are in debt. They are selling off parks like crazy. As much as I'd like to have a new home park, I doubt it will happen anytime in the near future.

While I would love that, I highly highly highly doubt this will happen. I remember the rumor being that the park was to be inbetween Tucson and Phoenix once, which actually to me would make more sense as Phoenix is moving in that general direction, and its quite populated all the way to the outskirts, plus Tucson is another million people to add to possible customers. But still, all of these are just rumors and not one is true.
