verticalzero Posted June 8, 2006 Posted June 8, 2006 I am going back to "Plopsaland" in Belgium in a few weeks time as the Park installed a "Star Flyer" for the 2006 season. I don't know how high it is, looks over 100ft though I wondered if someone can tell me what they are like to ride. I don't mind riding "Chair-O-Planes". Do "Star Flyers" produce more force as they spin faster...? Does the "Up n Down" bit feel like a Drop Tower..? What's your view on them..? A Park in Germany is getting one which is over 260ft high for the 2007 season. Will a "Star Flyer" top 300ft soon...? Can you add your pictures of "Star Flyers" to this Post.
Meteornotes Posted June 8, 2006 Posted June 8, 2006 If you enjoy the swing ride at parks, you should enjoy the starflyer, as it's just like that, only much taller. The up/down movement is slow and smooth, and nothing like a drop tower (I'm thinking a starflyer moving at that speed would be dangerous!). We rode the one at Hansa Park in Germany last year, and I really liked it, even if it was a bit strange to be that high up in the air in a normal chair swing... dt
viking86 Posted June 8, 2006 Posted June 8, 2006 Its a fast, but very relaxing ride at the same time (unless you suffer from acrophobia). Its a really great feeling once youre used to being all the way up there. I dont know how tall the one at Plopsaland is, but the others I have seen are in the 200 ft range. Another great thing about the Starflyers is that they dont have the nauseating (for me) wave movements that the regular chairshwings have.
Simon Baynham Posted June 8, 2006 Posted June 8, 2006 Rode the one at Prater (Vienna, Austria) the other week. Star Flyers are great. Make sure you ride one at night/dusk, the ride becomes really quite scary. The phrase "A chain is only as strong as its weakest link" has never been more appropriate! Read you soon Simon Baynham (UK)
Canobie Fan Posted June 8, 2006 Posted June 8, 2006 I rode the one at Prater in 04. The ride looks better then it is. Once you get over the fact that its tell.. Its JUST a flying-swing My friend would only rode ONE of the parks coasters (Super 8 Bahn or whatever) Rode the starflyer with me.. And she loved it.
Guy T. Koepp Posted June 8, 2006 Posted June 8, 2006 I can't wait to ride one of these things somewhere, anywhere.
Dark Vampire Posted June 8, 2006 Posted June 8, 2006 A short clip from someone of my coaster club: http://users.skynet.be/fun-park/SpringFlyer.MOV
Jew Posted June 9, 2006 Posted June 9, 2006 Personally I find them to be the most f*cked up ride I have been on so far. Something about being 200ft in the air (or whatever the Hansa Park one is) and only secured by a standard chairswing lapbar thing+standard chairswing chains is just a wee bit unsettling...
