Nitro1118 Posted June 7, 2006 Posted June 7, 2006 Ok, I was planning to go to Illinois/Indiana for my summer trip. But, I had no idea how far apart the parks are. here is a pic showing IB/SFGAm/HW/Louisville airport: Now, my question is to all you people who go to those parks...how long does it take to get to each park? Is there anyway I can get from HW to IB any easier? Is this trip gonna be worth it?[/img]
SharkTums Posted June 7, 2006 Posted June 7, 2006 I guess it's all relative, but I don't really think those drives are that bad. Figure you average 60mph and do the math to see how long it will take you.
Nitro1118 Posted June 7, 2006 Author Posted June 7, 2006 They aren't terrible, but I wanted to try to cut down driving as mom is gonna be doing the driving (I am 16).
JamesMC Posted June 7, 2006 Posted June 7, 2006 going from HW to IB- your quickest bet is to stay on I-65, going to SFGA is trickier though. Really depends on what time of the day you plan to hit it. Best overall bet is this. (and I live near these intersections), take I-65 north to the I 80-94 exit (this will be on the rt hand side of the road)- take I-80/94 west to Chicago- STAY on I-80 west( I-94 will veer away to the north near Lansing, IL just over the border) (there WILL be congestion near the IN/IL border, please be prepared), from I-80 west take I-294 (Tri-State Tollway) north all the way past O'Hare until it rejoins I-94. Stay on that until you get to the Grand Avenue exit to go to SFGA. HOWEVER, if you are going LATE at night or EARLY in the morning, this alternative CAN save you some time- take I-65 north to I-90 west (The Tollway/The Skyway), take I-90 west into Illinois where it joins I-94 north (AGAIN, if you are going to hit this after 7:00 a.m. forget it, it will NOT save you any time)- Stay on I-94 North til the Grand Ave. Exit for SFGA. Please note, no matter which way you take, BRING COINS!!! You CANNOT get to SFGA on any major highway without at least some TOLLS. No matter which way you take, PLEASE take the time to look at an atlas before you try do drive up this way, it will save you some headaches.
Nitro1118 Posted June 7, 2006 Author Posted June 7, 2006 Thanks for the great post. In your opinion, how long should it take to get from HW to IB? I am not so worried about Chicago, as I will have lots of time in that area and if I hit some traffic, it won't be a big deal (I am gonna stay at a hotel just outside of Chicago, so traffic shouldn't be TOO bad anyway).
JamesMC Posted June 7, 2006 Posted June 7, 2006 The Dells are close- but they are NOT next door. If you are already at SFGA- stay on I-94 N all the way to Madison, WI and continue north to the Dells. AVOID Milwaukee if you can by taking the I-894 West bypass. IF you are going back to Chicago overnight, let me know where you are staying and I will let you know the quickest way back to the Dells. EVEN if you go straight from SFGA- Plan on a 3 hr or so trip.
Nitro1118 Posted June 7, 2006 Author Posted June 7, 2006 I am not going to dells, as it would make trip even longer. I basically want to go to HW/IB/SFGAm, and those 3 parks alone are gonna make driving a big part of the trip. How long do you estimate it will take to get from park to park?
Guest Posted June 7, 2006 Posted June 7, 2006 From IB to HW is about 4-4 and a 1/2 hours HW to Louisville is another 90 minutes. I don't know the times between IB and SFGAm though...sorry.
Nitro1118 Posted June 7, 2006 Author Posted June 7, 2006 Thanks a lot. I only ask because I need to give mom times this weekend so we can start planning it, and while knowing how many miles is great, it is better to find what people from the area find as driving time.
the_rock401 Posted June 8, 2006 Posted June 8, 2006 Dells are another 3 hours past SFGAm, and you have to fight your way through lousy traffic and perpetual road work in Milwaukee and Madison. Paul "Better Dead than Wisconsin Red" Miller
M_Force_4_ever Posted June 8, 2006 Posted June 8, 2006 IB to SFGAm would take you about 2-2 1/2 hours...if you wanna meet up at SFGAm drop me a PM (Im there practally every day)
