Photo TR: Disneyland Paris 8th to 12th May 06

Hi everybody

A report and some pics from our trip to Disneyland Paris.

We travelled from Cardiff via train to London and then took the Eurostar straight to Disney. We were staying at the Santa Fe which was basic but well worth the extra cash to stay in Disney rather than just outside (plus it had a termite mound and a crashed UFO!!).

After a quick unpack we headed over to the Studios and by 3.30pm we were riding the Rock n Roller Coaster. Loved the one in Flordia and this version seemed even better with the launch taking us both by surprise (seemingly longer). It even managed to break my girlfriends watch!!

The park was pretty empty despite being a French bank holiday so we took the studio tour (which was pretty cool), rode the flying carpets, watched the Art of Disney Animation presentation (which coincidently was exactly a year from when we watched it at MGM in Florida!!!) and then finished off with the fantastic Cinemagique (loved the bit with the sword). That was closing time for the Studios so Armageddon could wait for another day

We headed across to Disneyland and have to agree with all the people who said what a great looking park it is. We started off with Pirates and then made our way to Indiana Jones which I had been looking forward to the most. However my girlfriend, Clare was feeling a bit knackered so we decided to leave it for the morning

We rode Phantom Manor, then a blast on Buzz (which seemed to be a perfect copy of the Florida version and therefore brilliant) before the pull of a coaster was too much for Clare and it was time for Space Mountain. We both loved this - not a smooth ride by any means but the whole upwards launch and headbanging, shoulder crushing spin round the planets was fantastic. A great first evening/afternoon.

Tuesday's weather was dreadful and after an encounter with TweedleDum and TweedleDee (who rubbed snot on my face, tried to kidnap Clare and then splashed over guests) we ran to Indiana Jones narrowly beating a Swedish couple to the front of the qu.......... metal fence blocking the entrance. We all stood there looking confused before a staff member told us the ride was down for renovation for three weeks

I checked my park map for the first time and noticed it was clearly marked on there from Monday 8th. If only I'd checked the map he day before as they must have decided to keep the ride running for the bank holiday. Both gutted (as were the Swedish couple) we headed to BTM which was superb. Loads better than the Florida version and the end bit through the tunnel was great. We rode it twice and then enjoyed a day in the rain riding more or less everything in an emptyish park. We then headed over to the SeaLife centre (which was well worth a visit) and had a look around the Mall.

Wednesday we headed for Paris and saw the Mona Lisa, went up Notre Dame and the Eiffel Tower and found a small Zoo as well as enjoying a meal and a bottle of wine.

Thursday was a full day in the parks, starting with breakfast in Fantasyland and pre-park opening rides on Dumbo, Peter Pan and the Carousel. We clocked up lots of rides this time in glorious sunshine before heading over to the studios where Armageddon was closed for renovation (DOH!) and Rock n Roller Coaster was broken (arrhghhhhhh). We took the bizarre Television Production Tour which we managed to skip most of as the doors were all open.

A quick ride on Cyber Space Mountain (not as fun as Disney Quest) and we walked out into the parade where the empty park had suddenly become full. Rock n Roller Coaster was still down but we hung around, the park emptied again and at 2.30 we enjoyed 5 consecutive rides on Rock n Roller Coaster with no queuing time at all (not staying on but walking around). We watched Lights, Motuers, Action which we enjoyed (although we had seen its Florida debut last year) and then back to Disneyland for more rides on Pirates, Space Mountain and Buzz until we crashed out of the park at 8 pretty exhausted.

On the Friday we had pretty much the whole day at the park but it was a lot busier so we rode all the main attractions once in both parks (although we had two rides on Buzz as Clare's gun didn't work and I clocked up 600,000 on the second ride!!!!!!) and enjoyed going twice round the park on the train finishing off with a final ride on BTM before heading home.

We were both very impressed by the Paris Disney experience having been slightly sceptical that it would live up to our experiences in Florida last year. The rides were excellent (loved all three coasters, fantasyland rides were cool, pirates and Phantom Manor were great, Cinemagique and Animagique were both excellent shows).

Disneyland was fantastically themed and just a lovely park to walk around with lots of paths leading to small walkthrough attractions or waterfalls or just another brilliant bit of theming, the staff were all incredibly polite and helpful and staying in the resort and being able to walk to the parks was brilliant. Studios was a bit sparse but that allowed us to ride Rock n Roller Coaster 5 times during the middle of the day so I'm not complaining and once Crush coaster and the Tower is up then it'll be a great second park.

Only negatives was the food selection wasn't brilliant at Disney Village - for the cost (we loved Rainforest Cafe at AK but the menu didn't look as good here) and a lot of the restaurants inside the park were closed for renovation. And that Indy, Armageddon and the tea cups were down for renovation but that’s my fault for not reading the map

Thoroughly recommend a trip and its exciting to think that there is a Disney park just over the water that I can hopefully afford to go to on a regular basis (especially once the Tower opens) and at times walking around with the castle in view and the sun shining it felt like we were back in Florida.

Let the photos commence.

Whaw... some great pictures. Just a small note, the BUZZ ride is not a complete copy of the WDW one. In DLRP you can take the laserguns in your hand and point them in any direction you want while the WDW once are attached to the ride vehicle

thanks for the report! I love picture trip reports

Good timing on this report. Grat pics. I will be going there in 3 weeks. Taking the Eurostar straight to Disney and we are going to stay at the Sequoia Lodge. Plan on splitting time between the parks and going into Paris.
