germancoasterfan Posted May 24, 2006 Posted May 24, 2006 Me and my wife wanne visit SFMM in July with our 10 year old son. While we ride the very big coasters he could ride the little golith or eat icecream. I'm only worried a little bit of the crime. It it safe there for children? I've also heard about a law, that it is forbidden to leave children alone under the age of 12. Am I right? What is the fine for that? BTW: In Germany we haven't such a law. But in some regions it would be better to have such it. greetings, germancoasterfan
stormrider Posted May 24, 2006 Posted May 24, 2006 Well, I don't know about the law thing, because when I went to Magic Mountain in 2003 I was twelve and had to wait for some of the coasters on my own but if your son is really young and incapable of handling himself, then the better option would be to watch him.
CoasterFanatic Posted May 24, 2006 Posted May 24, 2006 Most parks in the US have some form of a Child Swap. It differs from park to park. You may want to try contacting the park to see what their policy is.
wrs28330 Posted May 24, 2006 Posted May 24, 2006 Unfortunatly, SFMM does not have a child swap program. Yes SFMM is safe. Safe for families, safe for kids. If your child was off by himself he would be okay, if you think he/she is mature enough. Enjoy your trip!...and TATSU!
Darien Laker Posted May 24, 2006 Posted May 24, 2006 GermanCoasterFan, How tall is your son? At 10 years old, he may actually be able to ride some of the big coasters with you. Ninja has a very low height limit, so he should be okay for that one. I think Goliath and some others have a 48'' height limit. He may not be tall enough for the B&M's and some others, but if you're not sure you can go to SixFlags.com to see which rides he can ride.
65skylark Posted May 24, 2006 Posted May 24, 2006 My daughter is only 8 and my son is 6. We were there together in March and they were both able to ride Goliath, X, Ninja, Colossus, Superman and Psyclone along with the kiddie coasters. If your son is 10 he should be able to ride everything in the park unless he is very small for his age. If so, they will let you take him through the line with you and then wait with one parent while the other one rides. Then you just switch. Just like wrs28330 said. I have been there many times with my family and have never felt unsafe. They really are taking steps to make it a more family oriented park. You should have a good time. Just be prepared for the posibility of long lines.
germancoasterfan Posted May 24, 2006 Author Posted May 24, 2006 First thanks for your quick answers. @Darien Laker: Yes our son is taller than 48''. But this is not the problem. Is he brave enough to ride Golith and the other big rides?... Here in germany the rules for kids are more restrictive and so he couldn't ride a big coaster till now. Greetings germancoasterfan (who is looking forward to ride Tatsu)
ECZenith Posted May 24, 2006 Posted May 24, 2006 I just got back from a full weekend at the park including a 16 hour day and didn't see one incident of crime. A child of that age should be able to wait on the exit ramp, there's usually at least another kid or other people waiting for exiting parties. Have fun!
BarryH Posted May 24, 2006 Posted May 24, 2006 I went to SFMM last May and I felt pretty safe. It was pretty dead and I was with Elissa Alvey. I guess Elissa protected me with her Elissa Alvey-ness.
