dougstanton Posted February 12, 2006 Posted February 12, 2006 My home park is SFOG and Ninja is getting a paint job and will now become red track with black supports. There is also a rumor that we will be getting new trains. Has anyone ridden a Vekoma with the new, open sided trains, and does it make the ride any smoother?
Chris Benvenuto Posted February 12, 2006 Posted February 12, 2006 are you talking about the KumbaK trains that are at the park called Etfeling? (i dunno in hell, how to spell it ) or the ones on the boomerang at PowerPark in Finland? But, no I haven't, The older trains to me seem better, but that's my opinion since i've only been on two rides with Vekoma-like trains (Demon at SFGA but those are arrow's trains, they seem the same to me ) But anywho, I haven't ridden any rides with either of those two train types. The KumbaK ones look cool, but may cause more then the older ones. The boomerang ones, however are just F***ing weird.
coaster_type_of_person Posted February 12, 2006 Posted February 12, 2006 http://www.rcdb.com/ig2951.htm?picture=15\ Those are the trains.
ParkTrips Posted February 12, 2006 Posted February 12, 2006 Something tells me that Mr. Stanton has seen that photo already, but if not I'm sure he was capable of going to the rcdb Anyways I wouldn't even call this a rumor, just an enthusiasts' wish list. hm, I think I should send this one in to Screamscape.
chavslayer Posted February 12, 2006 Posted February 12, 2006 I always thought vekoma trains looked really stylish and the new ones look really cool. Lets just hope they are smoother.
dougstanton Posted February 12, 2006 Author Posted February 12, 2006 Yeah, I have seen that picture. I was just asking if anyone has ridden in the new trains to see if they make much of a difference. I actually like the looks of them. They are also safer considering they have that seat belt just in case the harnesses were to release.
TheGreatOne Posted February 13, 2006 Posted February 13, 2006 ^Well if that's the case, they could just retrofit some seatbelts to Ninja's trains. Given Six Flags' budget, buying new trains when it isn't extremely necessary don't make much sense. -Bryan "those trains looked brand new in 2003" Wood
dougstanton Posted February 13, 2006 Author Posted February 13, 2006 They would be getting new trains to make it smoother. I was just saying the seat belts were another plus about the trains. The trains now don't look all that bad. The ride is extremely rough though. I don't know if you have heard about it, but SFOG is doing so much this year to make the park better. They are painting Ninja with red track and black supports. I think they want to add the trains also to just make more people ride it. All I want to know is if anyone has ridden on the new train and if so, how are they?
Freefall Posted February 13, 2006 Posted February 13, 2006 I have been on the new trains on an arrow coaster at chessington WOA in england, there not the ones coaster_type_of_person showed us as those aint even inverted! The vampire woz the 1st proper coaster I rode and found it slow and forceless but since getting the new seats it seems much faster and you can feel the G also more (probably just as fast but it does feel diffrent, maybe the cars are heavyer or there just fresh), it also make a great difrence to the ride as you feel like your flying alot more and it opens up what you can see, its also good for people that are not at the front as all you could used to see is the next cart infront. I've always though that the ninja looks sweet but really needed open trains so i think it will really make a big diffrence to the ride, have fun on it New trains
ParkTrips Posted February 13, 2006 Posted February 13, 2006 They are also safer considering they have that seat belt just in case the harnesses were to release. If that's what you're concerned about, why do you ride these things? Even these trains have redundant systems. - Joe
dougstanton Posted February 13, 2006 Author Posted February 13, 2006 I am not concerned with that at all. Seat belts don't bug me at all. I know how slim of a chance there is for them to open. People in my family just think that since its rough, and doesn't have seat belts, they don't feel safe riding it. I am sure other people thnk the same thing. I just love these trains because of how open they are, and well hopefully, most importantly, smoothness.
canadianfreak Posted June 27, 2006 Posted June 27, 2006 if the new types of trains are smoother vekoma should replace all the old ones with the new ones. The boomerang at SFDL on some seat the restraints are loose too maybe thats just me but it scared the hell out of me.
Finrock Posted June 27, 2006 Posted June 27, 2006 i have rode Cobra at Powerpark, the new train was very comfortable! and that make Cobra to a great, fast ride and comfortable at the same:) these new trains are much better than the old ones:) no

Seat belts on those kind of trains can only slow down dispatches. Look at Corkscrew at Cedar Point. Since someone decided the ride "wasn't safe" a few years ago, they decided to add seat-belts to the ride, (which are nothing more then a pain in the neck and since the park decided to stick the fastener to the fiberglass of the train and hang the seat-belts from the OTSR, many people have been slapped in the face) and now Dispatches are horribly slow and when the park runs three trains. Most of the time, you can expect to wait for two trains in the brakes until you can get off the ride. Picture from PointBuzz: www.pointbuzz.com/Gallery.aspx?i=2361.
noyzz Posted June 27, 2006 Posted June 27, 2006 http://www.rcdb.com/ig2951.htm?picture=15\ Those are the trains. Those look really cool! would be nice if Ninja got them......
