This news came out over the summer. It is just that the game has gone beta now. It should be in stores in November.

BTW the reason that RCT and RCT2 never made it to the mac is because they were written almost entirely in Intel assembly. Macs until 2006 have been and are PowerPC based. Therefore there is almost no way that they could have efficiently ported the games. Heck there is almost no way to port assembly in general. It is an ugly thing to read and takes serious documentation (in code) to be able to understand some of it.

RCT3 on the other hand is a more standard game featuring mostly C(++) based code and 3d graphics. It probably won't run as fast on a mac due to the fact that it is hard to re-optimize someone elses code but it should run perfectly fine. Keep in mind though that it requires a 1Ghz G4 at least.

This is good news in that the game will be available to more people, but I would strongly advise against switching to Mac for the following reasons:

1. To get a Mac that will play rct3 well would cost ALOT more than a PC that can do the same.

2. Macs lack upgradeability (or if they are upgradeable, you have to get more expensive Maccertified components and often pay extra to have them installed in the non-install-friendly cases)

3. Macs lack the variety of programs windows has (sure they have the basics like word and the others, but it's very hard to find the variety that exists with windows programs)

There are others....

Anyways, as far as cost/value ratio, PCs are much better. And don't expect it to run better because it's a Mac. It Won't. Apple goes into alot of trouble in making their computers "look good" and have a distinctive feel to them, but when it comes down to performance, value, and components, Windows PCs are the way to go. Try not to get sucked into their evil propaganda and brainwashing techniques (j/k).

Of course there is the little thing about productivity... Mac users are consistently shown to get more done on their computers... Perhaps it is the lack of installed Solitaire. Perhaps the fact that the OS actually works most of the time. Perhaps it is the fact that Drag and Drop is a rule rather than a guideline. Maybe the fact that there are no viruses for OSX has something to do with it... Maybe the fact that there is no Spyware?

Oh I don't know. Sure you can build a PC for gaming for cheap but that is all it is... Cheap parts with a pretty damn crappy OS. Apple users want something better. Seriously don't even try to argue because until you don't need an installer and an unistaller for Windows you have no ground to argue on. In OSX most programs are completely self contained so you just drag them over and they work. It is ideal for people who have never worked with computers before and terribly convenient for those who have.

Apple designs well made machines that fit a users needs. It just so happens that most aren't designed to be game machines as that is a terribly small portion of computer users. Oh and upgrades may cost more but not that much more. Besides Apple is moving to Intel based systems, over the next year and a half, which should make upgrades even more feasible.

Seriously though why do Windows only owners spout off about things they don't understand... You can find almost any program you need on a Mac. Sure there might not be 20,000 of them that almost do the same thing but you don't need that. There are only a few things that are really limiting.

I love you.

I was a windows user 4lyfe until i bought a g5 imac this summer... i<3 my imac. i mainly bought it because of the music software available. but i love my mac. it has never crashed. i have a pc with windows ME that crashes every 2 seconds. ok not really. but the thing doesn't even shut down anymore, it gets stuck on the windows screen. it's probably because the thing is almost four years old, but still.

To be fair ME is the worst windows since 2... Still I think that is an excellent machine you have there. I am glad you are enjoying it. People who have only used windows just don't understand but things really are that much easier and people can get emotionally attached to their macs. I have never seen a person say that they love thier PC... Enjoy the machine and definitely check out programs like Adium for IM. Macupdate.com is one of my favorite site for mac software.

I hate to argue with this since alot of it is legitimate. Also, I think that whatever someone's computer preference is all depends on what suits their individual needs. Some people may like the way a Mac looks or performs, and that's totally fine. However, I think I should correct a few misconceptions in your post.

1. There are some viruses for OS X, although not nearly as prevelent as with windows. However, a well secured Windows PC with a fully updated version of windows, a firewall, and a reliable antivirus is almost completely virus-safe. For example, my PC hasn't had a virus in it's 6 month existence.

2. It is true that Macs are welcoming to new users. But so are Windows computers. There are plently of user-friendly features and the OS is generally easy to use. (not an implication that Mac OS X is not)

Also, the implication that a built windows PC that is inexpensive has to be compiled of crappy parts is usually false. The components that you would buy are almot always the same companies you would find in a computer you would build. (AMD, Intel, nVidia, ATI, MSI, etc.)

In retrospect, I think what I was trying to say was that I would not recommend switching to Mac with an expectation of running RCT3 better. Macs may very well suit your other needs. It is all a matter of preference. However, I do think that people get negative opinions of PCs because they have had an experience with one that was really bad, outdated, slow, or running an obsolete OS. This is not the case with newer systems, and in my opinion they are just as user-friendly as a Mac. Also, while viruses, spyware, and other similar things may be made out as extremely comon, they can easily be avoided with some windows updates and some Antivirus/antispyware software (theres plently of freeware utilities that are very good if money is an issue). Anyway, good luck with whatever computer you own

Actually there are 0... Repeat 0 known viruses for OSX. There is 1 known trojan that can screw up your system but due to OSXs security features you would have to run it and then enter your administrator password for it to do anything. Beyond that it has not been found in the wild.

Also you don't address the fundamental problem with Windows... Most users don't know how to use it... OSX is extremely easy to use with most apps installing through a simple drag and drop. Windows has you go through tons of freaking screens in some install wizard which is always overly complicated. Then there are quite a few programs that freak if you move them from where they were installed. I'm sorry but thats hardly acceptable these days IMHO. I think Microsoft really should be doing a better job. I mean they have hundreds more people working on their OS than Apple does so why can't they come up with even half the good features?

I would wholeheartedly agree... Never switch to a mac to play games... Heck switch because you are sick of the constant security updates... Switch because you want something you can run without a virus scanner always stealing cycles. Switch because OSX just works almost all the time and drag and drop really works the way it should(heck even making a DVD is as simple as drag and drop the video clips onto the place you want them in iDVD). Just remember that if you do switch it is a different OS... Half the people who complain about the Mac OS after switching are trying to use it like windows. It just doesn't work that way.

Oh and just so people know I do run a windows XP machine and a Mac so it isn't like I am not coming from some experience.

Yes but you do of course realize that just by posting on a website you are ahead of some 60% of the computer using public... Most people don't even do that... Heck your statement really doesn't prove anything. You have obviously used windows before...

Not that I am really trying to prove anything but most windows users have never used a Mac seriously. They always come up with the same "oh I used them in school and they were slow and sucked". Well the old os wasn't intended to be secured so they loaded all sorts of weird software on to prevent people from messing with the computers. Without that software things worked much better but any case OSX is really a whole different animal.
