aero21 Posted April 28, 2014 Posted April 28, 2014 I have panned my family vacation for June 16th through the 20th and we are planning on hitting the two major parks in Virginia. I just moved to Raleigh this December and we are very excited to finally get some credits out here but don't know the area well. I've been looking at hotels and package offers for the two parks but I'm not sure what to go with. I will be driving to Roswell Monday morning and visiting King's Dominion then driving down to Williamsburg that evening to get a hotel. We plan to spend Tuesday getting some culture credits and then visiting Busch Gardens on Wednesday. Any thoughts or ideas would be helpful.
SharkTums Posted April 29, 2014 Posted April 29, 2014 I would base in Williamsburg and then just make a day trip up to Kings Dominion. The restaurants, shops, and hotels in the touristy Williamsburg area are much nicer than Doswell.
fraroc Posted April 29, 2014 Posted April 29, 2014 In a sick twist of coincidence, that's going to be my summer trip except I'm going much earlier in June.
cfc Posted May 1, 2014 Posted May 1, 2014 If you're looking for some nice, non-chain dining alternatives in Williamsburg, I recommend the Five Forks Café for breakfast (good diner food) on Rt. 5, Pierce's Pitt Barbecue (if you're into pulled-pork sandwiches) on E. Rochambeau, and Guiseppe's Italian Restaurant on Olde Towne Road. There's a good beer selection at the Dog Street Pub in Merchants Square, too.
coasterbill Posted May 1, 2014 Posted May 1, 2014 I was very surprised at how early everything closed in Williamsburg. If you get there late at night... you'll be eating at Wawa (not that that's ever a bad thing). Even most of the Fast Food places close early.
cfc Posted May 4, 2014 Posted May 4, 2014 Williamsburg has never been known for its amazing nightlife.
Rahlee Posted May 11, 2014 Posted May 11, 2014 Go ahead and skip Williamsburg altogether and make Richmond your base. You'll be bored to tears in that overpriced tourist trap. You should be able to Priceline /Hotwire a nice room in downtown Richmond quite cheap that time of year. Tons of great food options/history /culture in RVA.
