cfc Posted September 11, 2013 Posted September 11, 2013 Sorry, I thought this was a discussion forum, not Twitter. My bad. "Brevity is the soul of wit." You do tend to "go on" a bit, David, and it would behoove you to make your points a bit more succinctly. Just some friendly advice. TDS stomps all over Cedar Point, too, regardless of the criteria you use.
ernierocker Posted September 11, 2013 Posted September 11, 2013 Yeah, Chuck said what I was trying to say in a much more civil manner. Thanks Chuck.
loop-de-loop Posted September 11, 2013 Posted September 11, 2013 There is no point in getting worked up over these awards, since we already know who the "real" winners of these awards should be.
caffeine_demon Posted September 19, 2013 Posted September 19, 2013 I'm not too bothered about amusement parks and theme parks being in the same category, but just can't understand why cedar point has been number 1 for so many years now. Even if judging a "best amusement park", I'd put Knoebels and Blackpool above it.
sfmman2000 Posted September 19, 2013 Posted September 19, 2013 I think it's about time SCBB's carousel outranks Knoebel's carousel. While they are both great, the SCBB carousel has an automatic ring machine (that does work some of the time!) as well as outside horses that go up and down.
robbalvey Posted September 19, 2013 Posted September 19, 2013 (edited) Are we really debating Carousels? Here's an idea - how about just being happy that there is still a Carousel with a ring machine on both coasts that are both operated like they were back in the day and just leave it at that? --Robb ps. And, Yes, I realize there is more than just two left in the USA>.. Edited September 19, 2013 by robbalvey
cal1br3tto Posted September 19, 2013 Posted September 19, 2013 ^I think you knew I was in here writing an essay about carousels. ^^Not saying it's a big deal, but I think Knoebels runs the best carousel by far. Their passion for carousels is evident throughout the park. Only downside is that the ring toss isn't a "game" there, but the brass ring makes up for that.
Intarider Posted September 19, 2013 Posted September 19, 2013 The only good thing about this poll is that they finally put EGF into the top 3 (albeit with much less points than either MF or Bizarro). And the second place for Europa Park is at least a step in the right direction IMHO... Apart from that, Robb summed it up quite well earlier.
sfmman2000 Posted September 20, 2013 Posted September 20, 2013 ^^Interesting perspective about Knoebel's carousel... I do like how they run their carousel (and Knoebel's operations in general). The Boardwalk did try the brass ring game one year, but it didn't last...
Jackdude101 Posted October 3, 2013 Posted October 3, 2013 The credibility of the GTA's increased slightly for me this time because they finally removed Aska in Nara Dreamland from the Top 50 best wood roller coasters list. This roller coaster has been more-or-less abandoned and the park as a whole as well since 2006. Also, I would be very interested to know how much Cedar Fair pays Amusement Today Magazine to ensure that Cedar Point is always "voted" the best park every single year. It has an impressive set of roller coasters and other rides, but best park as a whole? I don't think so. Busch Gardens Williamsburg would be a more apporpriate overall candidate for winning in the best park category.
