Rovio Entertainment Ltd., the Finnish firm behind the popular mobile game app “Angry Birds” appears to have a leg up on Swedish furniture giant IKEA International in a contest for a piece of land that Rovio intends to use for a new office and an “Angry Birds” themed family fun park.

The success of “Angry Birds” since its launch in 2009 has made Rovio a star of the fast–growing App Economy. The company has boosted its payroll to 550 people from 200 just a year ago. Company officials have sent mixed messages about a potential IPO, with the CFO last month pouring cold water on the idea of a share sale soon.

Rovio wants to accomodate its growing brood by joining with Finnish information services company Tieto Oyj to develop a 12.9-acre lot owned by the city of Espoo, according to a document prepared by city officials ahead of a City of Espoo executive board meeting on Monday.

Tieto wants a new headquarters. Rovio wants offices and a small Angry Birds-themed amusement park.

“We’re in the process of developing a concept for a family entertainment center that could be replicated around the world. Concept development should be completed this spring,” said Mikko Setala, Rovio’s executive vice president for corporate development.

I live almost right next to the stated area, and this has also been in the local newspaper. What I have understood is that it would be an indoor park, containing multiple simulators and kid-attractions (bouncy castles etc). I highly doubt it would have any coasters, a Go-Gator at max. Also if I recall correctly, the IKEA is not coming.

It would have been awesome though to have a coaster almost in the backyard!
