Soren, Kick the next nurse that has to stick you. I had to get stuck in the hand multiple times, during labor, and twice in the spine for the epidural. Hope you feel better. I know I would kick anyone that didn't know how to do a stick. Especially a NURSE!

^I agree with you, Katie. It really hurts in the hand, and when the nurse make it wrong, it will hurt much more. The best is, when the nurse prick you 5 times in the same hand... I know how it is!

What a coincidence, I just had an IV infusion yesterday, in the hand too! (I was going to do a photo TR too, haha) I hate getting them, but I sort of just deal with it now.

Yeah, that's a good idea. Maybe next time you'd prefer to go without the medication.

As a nursing student who is learning how to do IV insertions, I would just like to say that it is not the easiest thing to do, even for experienced nurses.

I will grant you, however, that if a nurse can't get the vein after three tries, an IV specialist should be called in, if available. Most of the nurses I have worked with will call after 2 failed attempts. (And yes, I've been the victim of multiple sticks, and I have really good veins.)

That sucks! How long do you have to have the injections for? If it for an extended amount of time, I would ask for a Permacath or some other long term access so that they do not have to keep sticking you!

Please do not kick the nurse. As a nurse, I can tell you that it is not always easy to get IVs in. Even the best have trouble sometime!

Hey Melissa,

be sure, I will never kick the nurse. I know, it is not easy to get IV´s, because my veins roll around under my skin. I think I will get the IV´s for 7 - 10 days. The last time we tested a "Braunüle" for a few days, but it doesn´t work! It hurt to much after a few hours. Thats why they prick me every day again and again!

Kinda surprised they let you take pictures.... or were you sneaky about it?

They gave me the IV and then let me alone for a long time. At that time I made the pictures.
