Yas Waterworld Abu Dhabi is themed around the UAE’s pearl-diving heritage and tells the fictional story of Dana, a young Emirati girl on a quest to find a legendary pearl. Developed by Aldar Properties, the park will also contain themed restaurants, shops and activities spread over 15 hectares. The list of attractions includes a wood-raftered souq, the Middle East’s longest suspended roller coaster and the world’s first interactive coaster to incorporate on-board water and laser special effects. Other family-orientated rides include Slither’s Slides – a maze of six slides and tunnels, including sculptures that spray water, LED light effects which exit through the fanged mouth of a giant snake’s head. For children, PearlMasters is a treasure-hunt style interactive adventure game, consisting of fire water cannons, puzzles and clues. “Our temperature-controlled system keeps all the rides comfortable through the winter and summer months,” added Oswald. Yas Island, Abu Dhabi’s entertainment focal point, already includes a Formula 1 Grand Prix circuit and the Ferrari World indoor theme park. Yas Mall, which will have over 450 retail units, is set to open in the fourth quarter of 2013. Last month, developer Aldar Properties said third quarter net profit was AED205m, up from AED143.9m in the year-ago period.

The opening was announced on their Facebook page, and comes ahead of their initial official opening to the public scheduled for Thursday, January 24. The announcement said that management “just couldn’t wait” until Thursday to open the park. “Today January 20th we officially open our doors to welcome everyone,” the announcement said.t open o "Today was our first day, but it was more like a soft opening," a spokesman said. "The official opening is still on Thursday. People were excited and we were excited too, and we were ready to open." The opening comes a day after a VIP ceremony on Saturday, attended by Shaikh Tahnoon bin Mohammed Al Nahyan, the Ruler’s Representative in the Eastern Region. The all-day opening ceremony saw carnival performers flood the souq area of the mega-theme park, a demonstration of pearl diving and a demonstration of expert flow-boarders. “Yas Waterworld Abu Dhabi came to life today - both symbolically and literally,” said Mike Oswald, the park general manager, in comments to WAM. “It has been an incredibly journey to this point and unbelievably satisfying to watch the people’s reaction to what has been created. “We are confident that people will have seen nothing like it before and we look forward to the waves of visitors expected to arrive now that the park is officially open.”

SharkTums Posted January 22, 2013 Posted January 22, 2013 ^I agree we need a few more coasters in the area to validate doing a full TPR Trip, but I feel there's enough to do in the area to justify a normal trip back there any time! We barely spent any time in the malls, there's indoor skydiving, more crazy sand dune stuff, plus the decent parks and excellent water parks.

But in the last couple of years, the latest additions have tempted me into thinking about seriously doing this.
