IrishBuckeye Posted June 5, 2012 Posted June 5, 2012 (edited) EDIT: Nevermind. Eastbound from Akron to Pennsylvania! Pittsburgh skyline. Partial shot of Heinz field, home of the Steelers. PNC Park, home of the Pittsburgh Pirates. Phantom welcoming us to Kennywood. Sky Rocket, right at the front of the park. George was here. Seahorse waffle fries were good! Seeing this on previous TRs, I always thought this was the Kwood entrance. Getting Jacked! Love this shot of the Racer. A view of the surrounding area from the Kwood picnic shelters. Fear the Roo! (Oh wait, were not in Akron anymore). My favorite shot of the day. Christina by a fountain, with the clock sign in the distance. Phantom's Revenge Ghostwood Estates Thunderbolt hill above the potato patch. Freshly squeezed lemonade is a hit with Christina! En route to our first roll on the Phantom. There are probably lots of photos with this shot already on TPR. Ok, enough posing. Lets RIDE IT! Cool fountain in the lost kennywood section. Me boarding swing shot. Whhhhhhoooooooooooaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa. Black widow off in the distance, not open yet. Thought this ice cream stand looked cool. View of Sky Rocket from the upper parking lot. View of the Phantom from the upper parking lot. theming on ghostwood estates entrance. Part of the double rainbow we saw from Phantom's lift hill. Now faded. Phantom meets rainbow. Thank you Kennywood for a spectacular visit! We stayed the night near Pittsburgh at a motel 6. Room wasn't bad for a budget motel. My hair after riding Sky Rocket four times! Flat screen tv, microwave, and fridge. All we could ask for. IKEA! We don't have an Ikea near us, so we decided to visit the Pittsburgh one while in the area, and get some home decor ideas. A home furnishing superstore, with its own restaurant. Brilliant! After deciding on a new couch for someday soon, I decided to relax on it a minute, wearing my new Phantom's Revenge T-shirt. Ikea was neat, didn't spend long there, but got some good ideas. Christina in her new Kwood shirt, after we got home. Edited July 20, 2013 by IrishBuckeye
Ed Farmer Posted June 5, 2012 Posted June 5, 2012 Not too many photo TRs of Kennywood, so thanks for that. Phantom's Revenge is right there with Powder Keg as excellent coasters that get less attention than they should. Even beyond the excellent ride it gives- reusing Steel Phantom's most recognizable features takes it to a new level of awesome. When Shockwave at SFGAm went down for good and it became obvious that it wasn't going to stick around, I was hoping for the long shot of Morgan being called in and doing something similar. Once it was scrapped, I was hoping that SFGAdv would do that with Great American Scream Machine. Now, I'm looking at SFMM's Viper if and when it's time comes- hopefully, the ride as it currently stands has many many years ahead of it.
Midgetman82 Posted June 5, 2012 Posted June 5, 2012 ^After seeing an episode of Glee where the actors did a musical on Viper, I'm sure it's gonna be around for a while longer... or at least I hope. I still need to ride it again. Great TR. Kennywood looks like an awesome park, along with Phantom's Revenge. I would love to go out there and ride it some day. I also wish Pit Fall was still there, but at least that ride wasn't totally scrapped. I also liked the IKEA report at the end! A nice change from just an amusement park in a TR. I noticed Black Widow was angled a little in one of your photos. Was it testing during your visit?
jzoole Posted June 5, 2012 Posted June 5, 2012 Great trip report! I like when people actually "review" the coasters. Also, your girlfriend is cute as a button
IrishBuckeye Posted June 5, 2012 Author Posted June 5, 2012 I noticed Black Widow was angled a little in one of your photos. Was it testing during your visit? Neither me or Christina are a big fan of Giant frisbee rides (or any spin ride for that matter), so we didn't walk back to that area. So I honestly don't know if it was or not.
jynx242 Posted June 6, 2012 Posted June 6, 2012 Thanks for posting your report! I absolutely loved Kennywood on my one and only visit. I found it to be just a delightful park. Not to big...not to small. I totally felt like goldilocks typing that just now... D
Meteornotes Posted June 7, 2012 Posted June 7, 2012 Nice report. I love this park, and wish I got around to visiting it more often. dt
gisco Posted June 8, 2012 Posted June 8, 2012 Thanks for the report. Trying to figure out if I can fit this park in when I'm out there in July.
