TPR Facebook Page Cover Photo Contest

Recommended Posts

Yeah, I've never heard of anyone who changes their cover photo consistently (though I do know a few people who change their profile picture really often).

Sometimes, you find a cover image and it sticks with you for a long time, much like my own...

While I think the rotating images look very nice, I do have two concerns.

1) They can not be links, there is no way to click on that "hotspot" and take you to the corresponding post or TR. Not a huge deal, but still something to keep in mind. May confuse some people.

2) Images may be redundant, only because the TPR facebook already posts to the latest and greatest happenings on the forum...

Although, the rotating images are sort of like a headline, drawing people in. It can go either way for me.

I agree with this. I don't really consider it a deal killer, as I think 99.9% of people will understand the cover photo's purpose. Especially the way the left-most photo fades out - to me that screams "not clickable." But it's an issue for the other 0.1% .

Currently TPR posts the best daily content. But the cover photo would highlight things more on a monthly basis. A good photo trip report from last month has probably already been pushed well off TPR's home page, and way down on the Facebook page, but with the highlighted images in the cover, you could still have 1 really cool picture from it. Any photo that shows up in the cover wouldn't show up until it's been pushed down a bit on the Facebook page, so redundancy isn't really an issue.

But because that image is not clickable, the user still has to search the FB page for the link or search the forum. I guess I'm just saying why draw attention to an event that is a month old and not give users an easy way to get there.

That said, I still love your design, I'm just thinking of people who may not be familiar with the TPR website or facebook.

Tours, bash events, etc are infrequent enough that you can change the photo to match the latest event that happens and still not be redundant. A featured trip report that's been moved down the line is a pretty good idea too. I just don't want to have "Theme Park Review changed their cover photo" on my news feed every day. Plus, you would eventually build up an entire Facebook album with basically the same cover photo with small revisions...

Looking forward to what Robb has to say about this. I love -productive- arguing.

Something about the red green and blue in large quantities kinda is too busy for me from a color standpoint. You guys are headed in the direction I was going and I guess thats the only reason Im not a huge fan of a public show, because your ideas can definitely be taken from you. And considering a prize is involved, makes it a little...strange.

Either way, think tonight Ill start work on some concepts. Got 11 days anyways.

Newest version...

I love the latest version you have posted. To me the images in the boxes aren't screaming clickable, but then again, I'm probably assuming people who are on Facebook are intelligent enough to know that clicking on a cover photo takes you to the cover photos album but you know what assuming does...

Those little boxes of images conveys that TPR does lots of things, not just one thing. But I like what you've done so far.

Having thought about this a bit more, I really don't think we want a rotating photo. Think about it this way, the front page of TPR, the Facebook updates, the Twitter feed, and our YouTube channel all have things that we *have* to update on a regular basis. The Facebook cover photo isn't something that needs to change. In fact, the FB page can actually function without a cover photo at all.

I guess when I think about things operationally, I'm not sure I want to add one more thing we have to worry about regularly updating. I hope that makes sense.

I like the slogan and the right side of the new one, but something about the left side looks cheap to me. I think that I don't like it when actual photos just have a colored filter over them. Or maybe even if they didn't have the white outer glow.

I have some ideas that I want to try out, but I just got a new laptop and don't have Illustrator or Photoshop on here, and my old computer that had them on it crashed. Frustrating!
