Noxegon Posted January 29, 2012 Posted January 29, 2012 A few of us have just returned from two weeks touring around South America, during which we visited Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Ecuador, Paraguay, and Uruguay. The trip was planned primarily around coasters, but we did do some touristy stuff too, primarily two days at the magnificent Iguasu Falls on the Argentina/Brazil/Paraguay border, but also Mitad del Mundo in Ecuador, the Estadio Centenario in Uruguay, the Itaipu Dam in Paraguay, and three Hard Rock Cafés I've put a full series of trip reports online here: http://www.bannister.org/coasters/trips/2012/ I've also uploaded photos from twelve of the parks: Complejo Pekos Parque Tematico (Argentina) http://www.themeparks.ie/southamerica/pekos/ Fantasilandia (Chile) http://www.themeparks.ie/southamerica/fantasilandia/ Karting Cross (Colombia) http://www.themeparks.ie/southamerica/kartingcross/ Mampato Lo Barnechea (Chile) http://www.themeparks.ie/southamerica/mampatolb/ Mundo Aventura (Colombia) http://www.themeparks.ie/southamerica/mundoaventura/ Parque de la Costa (Argentina) http://www.themeparks.ie/southamerica/parquedelacosta/ Parque Nacional del Café (Colombia) http://www.themeparks.ie/southamerica/pndc/ Parque Norte (Colombia) http://www.themeparks.ie/southamerica/parquenorte/ Parque Rodo (Uruguay) http://www.themeparks.ie/southamerica/parquerodo/ Salitre Magico (Colombia) http://www.themeparks.ie/southamerica/salitre/ VulQano Park (Ecuador) http://www.themeparks.ie/southamerica/vulqano/ Attached are a handful of photos to whet the appetite. Salitre Magico (Colombia) Parque de la Costa (Argentina) Complejo Pekos (Argentina) I rather suspect more reports will be coming on this trip soon from the other participants!
Coastinmiller Posted January 30, 2012 Posted January 30, 2012 Good reads Richard, thanks for sharing.
chickenbowl Posted January 30, 2012 Posted January 30, 2012 This picture is amazing. I had no idea Zambezi Zinger lives on in Columbia. The terrain integration looks incredible. It's cool to see new parks I haven't seen before.
RoCo Posted January 30, 2012 Posted January 30, 2012 Criminy, a Boomerang and an SLC right next to each other... that's highly concentrated suck right there. But awesome reports! Still going through them.
XII Posted January 31, 2012 Posted January 31, 2012 Nice trip report. I always enjoy seeing reports from parks that aren't talked about often and some of these places look really good.
Noxegon Posted January 31, 2012 Author Posted January 31, 2012 How many new Wacky Worms? Only three, though a further two were not rideable - one due to a height limit, one due to missing track and train!
simon8899 Posted January 31, 2012 Posted January 31, 2012 Very cool!!! http://www.themeparks.ie/southamerica/parquedelacosta/pulpo.htm - Schwarzkopf Monster 1??? I thought those were extinct.... http://www.themeparks.ie/southamerica/salitre/1001noches.htm - former german carnival ride "1001 Nacht"... http://www.themeparks.ie/southamerica/salitre/dobleloop2.htm - long time no see, Soquet double-loop! On a more practical note: How was security in Colombia? When you only hear tv-news about it one might get the wrong impression. Were you on a self-guided trip or with a group?
Noxegon Posted January 31, 2012 Author Posted January 31, 2012 I felt security in Colombia to be very good. Honestly, I think the country has a bad rep because of what happened there decades ago. At no point did I feel unsafe there. There are security guards everywhere, which tends to imply that they are needed, but I felt them effective. (BTW, to the earlier poster, we actually hit two parks with a Boomerang and SLC side by side...)
guifol Posted January 31, 2012 Posted January 31, 2012 Dis you go to any theme park in Brazil? Nce photos
Noxegon Posted February 1, 2012 Author Posted February 1, 2012 No, we decided to leave Brazil for the TPR trip. The only bit of the country we saw was at Iguacu.
Noxegon Posted February 2, 2012 Author Posted February 2, 2012 ...and here's why you should hit Iguasu if you're in the area. Iguasu
