verticalzero
Does anyone know the fate of this classic ride, as it is SBNO..? I have never been on it, What's it like to ride..?
Musical Pete
It was great fun to ride, a bit bumpy but naturally that added to the charm. It's a shame to see it sitting derelict with signs removed, including it's historic marker sign. The force round the turns was lovely, the whipping action itself. Last I heard or read, I think the building is going to house the Alpine Dodgems that appeared near to Avalanche last year. That could be wrong though (and PB management tend to change ideas a lot) so who really knows what's to happen. I'd like to think that the ride itself will go to Pleasureland along with Turtle Chase, which is in the same state. Both fun oldies with typically quirky forces! Cerberus
I don't think I even saw the Whip on my visit. I guess if it was covered with a roof, you wouldn't notice it unless you looked for it... Turtle chase I did see though! Up on a hill, rotting :? The wild choices of the management are probably half the reason why the park has so much unique charm. "Lets get a coaster!" - "Lets get a a weird horse riding coaster!" Ched
Does anyone know why the Whip is still there? Is it listed in some way? They removed the small dodgem cars from under the Revolution but the Whip is still there. I have never seen it running. I hope they are going to refurbish it one day? Anyone know anything about it? robbalvey
When I did my construction tour at Blackpool a couple of weeks ago I asked about it. The answer I got was "We don't have any plans to remove it, but it's not schedule to open this season. Perhaps one of these days we'll get it back up and running...." Last time I saw it running when in 2002. So who knows..... --Robb "I wouldn't give up too much hope." Alvey
verticalzero
I never got the chance of riding the "Whip" at Blackpool, It is a "Classic" flat ride and there are only a few left in the world which are running. I've always wanted to take a ride on this and the "Turtle" chase. Someday I hope Blackpool can either sell it to another park in England or put it back at the Pleasure Beach for everyone to enjoy again.

Shavethewhales
They better get around to re-opening it, I love whips. They make up yet one more example of a ride that some company should pick up and start manufacturing again. How old is this one?
YoshiFan
I don't know if they are still around but Rideworks Inc made a modern Whip for Hershey that was installed in 1997.
robbalvey
There are several companies that will still today make a Whip ride. The problem is that not many parks want them because they are very low capacity. --Robb
YoshiFan
Especially at parks that have a no more than 2 riders per seat rule (Dorney). You end up having groups of 3 that have to take 2 cars and with only 11 or 12 cars, it really doesn't allow that many people on the ride in 1 cycle. Myself
Kennywood has a 16 car model, which when full has the capacity of the nearby Swingshot (as well as Thorpe's Rush for all of you UKers). Knoebel's whip that is in storage is also 16 cars, I believe. If someone made a 16 car model with cars that were a bit wider, BOOM. Capacity problem solved. Up to 48 people at once. Though if they do they shouldn't make it like Hershey's. I rode the whip there and for some reason it isn't as thrilling in my opinion. Okay, so I'm a sucker for classic flat rides, but I really like whips. Someone should start making them again, as well as other classic flats you don't see very often. Louise
--Robb "I wouldn't give up too much hope." Alvey That was very much the impression I got when we were there too, to not necessarily assume that it will re-open, but that the fact that it hasn't been removed says something. It's such a shame to see it thre and not running, hopefully they will start operating it again at some point. Hey, with all the changes they've been making... Either they're very sentimentally attached to it or they certainly have plans for it to run at some point in the future, or it'd be gone by now. *shrug*
verticalzero
Small Parks could be perfect for a "Whip". e.g. Paulton's Park or Chessington. Blackpool's Whip dates back to 1934, this is why it should be saved and not scrapped. Amanda won't be bothered about it's history, she will melt it down

ManchesterDaz
Hi all, I used to ride the Whip in Blackpool as a child, and I loved it! There was another cool ride there years ago called the Reel. I live in Australia now, but am off back home to Manchester on a trip next year, the Pleasure Beach is high on my list of things to do. When I was in the UK I did a season as a ride operator on The Beast at Camelot Theme Park, it was such a laugh! I'm new to Theme Park Review, this is my first post. Cheers and have fun Darren
