imbordisux Posted September 2, 2005 Posted September 2, 2005 Just curious, any idea why none of the Cedar Fair parks have a B&M or Intamin Hyper? I mean, I guess you can't count CP, cuz they have a giga AND a strata, but it seems odd that none of the CF parks have either of these super popular models. Might it be that some of the parks already have a hyper, and a second one would be redundant, and that the ones that don't have one don't really cater to the real thrill-seeking crowds? Any ideas?
GAcoaster Posted September 2, 2005 Posted September 2, 2005 I'd guess because Morgan hypers were cheaper to build, they went with them, saving the good stuff for their flagship park. Why spend a lot of money on a small park when you'll never recoup the investment?
Real Posted September 2, 2005 Posted September 2, 2005 The first Intamin Mega coaster hit the scene in 1999. The first B&M Mega coaster hit the scene in 1999. Cedar Fairs installations by year: Magnum XL-200 : 1989 Mamba : 1998 Steel Force : 1997 Wild Thing : 1996 Yes, Mamba is only a year away from Intamins installation but obviously Intamin didnt make themselves known to Cedar Fair because I really think they would have went with them. I think the reason is that they built their hypers before B&M or Intamin made their models known.
Homer Posted September 3, 2005 Posted September 3, 2005 What about Arrow coasters though? Then again, in the mid 90's, Arrow was near dead and only one CF park has an Arrow Hyper (Magnum at CP)
Coasterkid20 Posted September 3, 2005 Posted September 3, 2005 depending on how you look at the definition of a hyper, one could say that Knott's has an Intamin Hyper coaster in Xcelerator. I personally don't feel that it is technically a hyper coaster, but stat wise it does apply. That being said, most of the parks already have something comparable to a B&M or Intamin hyper coaster, so there is little reason to build another one.
MagnumForce Posted September 3, 2005 Posted September 3, 2005 Like was said, all the parks had Hypers before Intamin and B and M introduced there's. If you really want to get technical Cedar Point does have 3 non inverting Intamin's over 200 feet. Millennium Force may be over 300 feet but it is still a hyper too. Anyone ever notice that Cedar Fair has far fewer coasters with Inversions then other Chains?
Coasterlicious Posted September 3, 2005 Posted September 3, 2005 (Anyone ever notice that Cedar Fair has far fewer coasters with Inversions then other Chains?) Oh well... Cedar Fair has amazing coasters for not being inverted... but then again that means lapbars...!! OTSR...eww
