coasterkyle Posted April 4, 2011 Posted April 4, 2011 Great pictures; thanks for sharing! One question though; in one of the pictures, "Dodgem" had colored walls surrounding it; why is that? It used to be a maze for little kids but that has been since move to the old Pirate Ride building as a permanent maze. but during the winter months they board it up still using the same walls for the maze and use it as a off season maintenance building. They do the same for the picnic shelters up front, but use tin sheeting for the temporary walls.
RoCo Posted April 4, 2011 Posted April 4, 2011 I can never get enough of these off-season shots. Especially in the grey, rainy weather - adds to the wistfulness of them. Very cool.
HappyEisentrout Posted April 4, 2011 Posted April 4, 2011 I was at the park today processing in because I start working tomorrow and it was just too rainy to take my camera out. I'll see about after work one of these days this week.
mattnz Posted April 4, 2011 Posted April 4, 2011 Wow, this is the most comprehensive Cedar Point off-season TR I've ever seen. Thanks for sharing all the little bits of info - my inner coaster nerd found it very interesting!

KI Kidd Posted April 4, 2011 Posted April 4, 2011 Thanks for posting! There are some really increidble pics there! Always fun to get a glimpse of parks during the offseason.
thrillrider Posted April 5, 2011 Author Posted April 5, 2011 Great pictures; thanks for sharing! One question though; in one of the pictures, "Dodgem" had colored walls surrounding it; why is that? While I was there, they were putting a dragster car inside of there.
coastermaniac Posted April 5, 2011 Posted April 5, 2011 ^ They haven't used that as the maze for years so I knew it couldn't be from Halloweekends. That makes sense that they'd use it has a work building.
kennywood_racer Posted April 5, 2011 Posted April 5, 2011 Thankyou for sharing! It's nice to see the hard work that goes into parks in the offseason.
thrillrider Posted April 5, 2011 Author Posted April 5, 2011 The amount of work that they are doing to get the park ready is unbelievable. They are moving into high gear the next six weeks.
kennywood_racer Posted April 5, 2011 Posted April 5, 2011 I forgot to ask this, but how far along was Ocean Motion?
thrillrider Posted April 6, 2011 Author Posted April 6, 2011 We did not make it over to the ocean motion area, but I was told that its still just a plot of grass. I am not too concerned about it, as there really is not much to the ride.
thrillrider Posted April 7, 2011 Author Posted April 7, 2011 Yea, windseeker looks amazing. I wonder if the wind off the lake will effect the ride at all?
kennywood_racer Posted April 8, 2011 Posted April 8, 2011 Yea, windseeker looks amazing. I wonder if the wind off the lake will effect the ride at all? I bet thats why they went with a Windseeker over a Skyscreamer. It's harder to blow a metal pole that chains.
thrillrider Posted April 9, 2011 Author Posted April 9, 2011 I am going to try and make it to cedarpoint one more time before opening day, so that I can get some more windseeker shots, ocean motion, and other new park items. I will also have a kings island opening day report comming soon as well.
thrillrider Posted April 14, 2011 Author Posted April 14, 2011 I received my 2011 getaway guide in the mail today. It has windseeker on the cover, and it also has info on the new shows, pinks, DQ, the new breakfast buffet with snoopy. It has lot's of park pictures, and of course coupons. The coupons are almost the same as past guides. They have a lot of midweek deals, and save $7 off tickets coupons. Other coupons include.... $10 off ripcord $10 off soak city 1 free ticket. In small print it mentions that it is for mini golf....not the park. A few buy one, get one game coupons $2 off at midway market $2 off midway meal basket Free kids meal at game day grille A free donut when you buy a coffee at donut time Save $3 at michigans adventure $4 off at wildwater kingdom A lot of sunday-thrs deals at the hotels. Nothing really special though. All the hotel coupons are for early season and good only during the week.
Reality15 Posted April 14, 2011 Posted April 14, 2011 Save $3 at Michigan's Adventure?!? Well, I might just have to go check that place out this year. I may have to use the $2 off Midway Market coupon, though. I've been going to the park since 1992 and still have yet to eat there.
thrillrider Posted April 15, 2011 Author Posted April 15, 2011 Lol...... I am sure that the $3 off coupon will intice a stampede of people from around the world, to rush Michigans adventures gate this spring.
