thrillrider
Made another trip out to cedarpoint today for another offseason look at things. I was also able to grab some great shots of windseeker construction. I also have a few short videos that I will try to include. This is actually the 2nd offseason trip I have made to the park this year. The first trip can be found here.... http://themeparkreview.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=57633 I tried to get shots of things I had missed in the first tour. Hope you enjoy..... Anybody guess what direction I am going? You know your getting near the park when you can see millennium force. Cedarpoint has there own cop cars. First ones here...... Random ride cars in the parking lot. More randomness.... I think blue streak goes faster than 25 mph. They still had the halloweekends maps in place. Is it opening day yet? Millennium force turnaround. A bad attempt at getting a shot of maverick. Lots of new wood on mean streak(like it's going to make a differance) Mulch waiting to be spread out in the park. Just a few shots of the coaster cars in hibernation. In case you forgot where I am. Something's not right in this picture. Upstop wheel. Random ride parts. Wheels. Getting artsy with the wheels. Not sure what this is for. Raptor car. No wonder acers can't ride the inverts. Wheel porn. Maverick is sporting some new wheels. Close up of wheel. Workers taking dragsters car to the shop for it's winter rehab. Millennium force is getting a new catch car. These racks hold raptors trains when they are removed from the track. Dragster in the nude. Naked!!! One last look at the coaster cars before we head into the park.

thrillrider
Next up, some park pictures. Disneyland may have the backside of water, but at cedarpoint, they have the backside of matterhorn. Scrambler. Matterhorn cars waiting to be put back on. Still a ways to go before this ride is up and running again. Slow day in the park. Zombieland, cedarpoint style. Workers doing some work on the sketch thingy. Spring is in the air at the park. In six weeks, this midway will be packed with people. Work in the skyride station. This is the counterweight for skyride. Dragging Iron waiting to be put back together. Corkscrew Cedarfair has this thing for garbage cans. Main midway Coasters Remember that dragster car on it's way to the shop? Supports so the weight of the snow does not collapse the roof. Awfull picture, but for only $599, you can be the owner of an ice cold 32 oz pepsi. What a deal!!! Winseeker parts in the distance. The tower pieces are huge. Spooky Cedar downs is getting a bunch of work done. Twelve dollar....twelve dollar footlong. Just don't have the same catch as the $5 commercial. New sign Inside the large arcade. Elvis has not left the building. Next stop....kiddie kingdom A lot of the rides were shrink wrapped. Lots of prep work is going on for this season. The merry go round is getting a lot of work done to it. They are repainting the building and touching up the rides scenery. The center post for the ride Looks odd without the horses. Somethings missing. Some ride parts are being stored inside the arcade building. Sir rub a dubs tub, minus the water. No traffic jams today on the bumpercars Troika is back together again. They are replacing a lot of the brickwork in the park. Giant wheel awaiting the arrival of it's cabins. Wicked twister Choas is history. This will now be the new home for the 3 point challange that was next to demon drop. Hmmm...what's this I see....could it be winseeker parts? Windseeker construction pics next...... thrillrider
I did not even notice the paint on millennium force. It needs it badly. Ok, onto the windseeker construction pictures. New ride parts. Workers had all kinds of parts on tables. The tubes for the ride are huge. They were moving the tower pieces around with a crane. Adena is the company that usaly works on the parks new rides. Some kind of maintanance cart. Tower section Moving the pieces around We have liftoff!!! The base of the ride. This will be the q line area. The new beach gate is looking good. More pieces. The jet ski rental is staying, but half the building will now house windseekers computer room. Behind the stadium. Another view of the tower pieces The crane The base of the ride. More pieces. Random pair of boobs next to windseeker. Let's take a look at some of the small parts that go into windseeker. Ok, that's enough of windseeker. Over next to planet snoopy, there was some work going on. Bryan Edwards was our tour guide.. No drinking fountains today in planet snoopy. There was about a six week wait for the next train. Frog hopper in it's winter state. Lot's more to come.....stay tuned.
HappyEisentrout
I love seeing how a park gets ready during the off season. I am processing in on Monday and expect to have my camera with me for when I walk around the park. Great Pictures.
thrillrider
The next set of pictures is of the dragster midway, under dragster, witches wheel, monstaer, gemini, himalaya, and lots of magnum. Looks like the park is all ready to go from this shot. The lagoon get's drained out every year. All the carp that live in the water, bury themself in the mud and actually survive there untill the spring when it's filled with water again. Not very deep. Power tower is getting new cables, and there were spools of cable everywhere. Power tower They really strip the ride down to it's bones. More spools of cable. Wheels for himalaya The ride is stripped down. Some kind of work was being done on corkscrew. Now let's take a look at dragster. There were no trains on the track yet, but the funny car was there all wrapped up. The midway in front of dragster was filled with piles of garbage cans. Inside the station. Look at all those proxy sensors. Looking down the return run. Without the leaves on the trees, you could see a lot more than normal from dragster. On our way to dragsters tower, I got to walk under dragon iron. There was kinda a sidwalk under the ride. There is a maintanance road that goes under iron dragon, to dragster. see..... From this road, I was able to get right next to iron dragons turn around. Footers Getting closer to the tower. Looks like they need to power wash this part of the ride. They paint mark the bolts, so they can tell if they are comming loose. Looks like they need to be painted as well. The drop down into the return brake run. On the way to the tower, I was able to snag a few pictures of the river boat ride. I did not see the river boats while in the park. Ok, now let's check out dragsters tower and maintanance area. Not sure what the propaine tank is for. This is the building where the hydroulic(sp) motor is. Looking up at dragsters tower. Hrdroulic(sp) fluid. Spare tires The grassy area under the tower. Looking up dragsters crotch Look who dropped in for a visit... The top of the top hat. Wtf??? Very tall Massive footer Just one of the powerfull lights that light up the tower. Looking up into the tower structure. If you wanted to take the elevator to the top, this is where you would get on. The supports connect the the base of the ride here. You would not believe the amount of lost items that were in the grass and on some of the lights. Had to suck for these people. Witches wheel in winter mode. Random ride vehicle sitting out in front. The monster They cut down a lot of trees in front of magnums station. Magnum hot shots. The lift motor. Magnums lift hill. Magnum footer. More lift motor Geek shot The lift hill sprocket. Sexy shot Another geek shot Me and maggie It's a long way to the top Under gemini It does not look like gemini recieved much new wood this off season. Gemini turn around Sky swing I like this shot Magnum xl 200....now with 20% less trees Under the station. Under the station, looking up Magnums computer room is in here. Looking over to the lift No line today. Stay tuned for more pictures.
mousch
Those pics are great, seeing the amount of work that goes into getting the park ready for winter and ready for the new season. thrillrider
Here are a few more pictures, and I will try to figure out how to upload a few videos on here as well. The entire fleet of cedarpoint busses. Noted... Magnum cars waiting for spring. Cedarpoint has it's own firetruck. They used this a few times last summer. What the park looks like from the hotel parking lot The tower section of the hotel Still closed for the season I know it's supposed to be like this, but every time I look at this, it looks like a piece of track is missing. Somebody stole all the coaster wheels and put them up on cinder blocks Girls dorm and water tower Heading out of the park. Thunder canyon pumps sitting next to mean streak. Insane airtime hill on maverick Millennium force first drop Painting? The red train is ready to go. Wildcat Old timer cars Planet snoopy ride cars The old east of chicago building is being transformed into a DQ. Next stop.....castaway bay for a dinner and q&a Some of the slides. Wood......... Bryan and Rebbeka. Rebekka now runs the cedarpoint blog. The q&a was kinda lame. People just kept asking about when they were getting a new coaster. Why is a pepsi only $2.35 at castaway bay, but they are $4 in the park? Charly brown was there. Bonus points for having the tigers game on. Can't wait for spring On the way home, we ran into a rain storm and a rainbow. Back to hell.....oh well, only 3 weeks till kings island opens. More pictures and video to fallow. thrillrider
Another short video of Bryan talking about windseeker. He answers a lot of questions about the ride. Not sure why it's sideways, and I apologize that I can't fix that. Snoopy store. This used to be where the earthquake dark ride was. Raptor lockers are shrink wrapped. Another great deal....only$9 for a slushy. Not sure how the gas station by me gets away with selling the same size for $1 The pond inside planet snoopy was drained. One last look at blue streak on the way out. 1pizza14
Very cool pictures! It's so cool to see how a park prepares for a new season. Do they keep the trains outside in the winter? I would think it would get some damage.
Reality15
Great pictures, Dave! Sad I couldn't be there to see everything for myself, but seeing your pictures is just as good. Hope to see you around the parks this summer. -Jon

asimowalk
Great photos! Thanks for sharing! I was surprised to see a Coca-Cola bin, the one under Magnum's station... Isn't Cedar Point still with Pepsi? And did they give a reason for cutting down all those trees?
Zingoman
In that first batch of photos there are some brown metal rails you said you didn't know what they were for. I'm pretty certain they are from Gemini's transfer system. They run from the beginning of the brake run to the transfer track and a cable runs inside it. It's used by maintenance to winch the trains backwards off the transfer and into the station every morning before the ride opens. It's kind of a quirky and interesting process. Why they would be removed and laying out in the parking lot is beyond me. Maybe they came up with a new way to do it or maybe they just needed replaced. Isn't Cedar Point still with Pepsi? And did they give a reason for cutting down all those trees? Considering it's under Magnum's station, only employees see it, so it doesn't matter. CP doesn't care much about product placement unless the guests can see it. Hidden things don't matter. Cedar Point is still Pepsi. I would not be surprised if they just took them off to clean them or just to check for hairline cracks. Basically, if anything can be taken apart, it gets taken apart (depending on how often certain things need to be maintained. There was one point where CP took a section off of WT's tower because it needed to be fixed up.) Edited April 4, 2011 by coasterlover420
asimowalk
^ Yeah, I know it doesn't really matter being in a backstage area, I'm just curious as to how it ended up in the park in the first place if they're not a supplier for them.

sfot11girl
Awesome Thanks for the Update! It is my dream to make it up there sometime. Texas is pretty far off. How did you get access in the off-season? I think that would be the best!
