RCT Coaster Challenge Chat

Another question about the Giga Coaster challenge...

Do we have to use the template parks that have been supplied in the other thread? I'm presuming 'yes' so that it's a level playing field?

Hi Fishy,

Basically no, they are just supplied so people can use them if they aren't sure how to go about doing the setup for the contest.

If you use RCT3 you have no real reason not to use the supplied template as you have all the scenery available all the time.

In RCT2 however you are limited with how much scenery you can include in each scenario. In that case you can either use the scenario we've supplied or make your own.

As long as the 20x30 rule and all other rules are observed by all entries it's fine.

The templates we've supplied are just for ease of use.

All entries will be checked for compliance with the rules as they are posted, and if for any reason they don't qualify the author will be PM'ed and given the opportunity to revise the coaster.

Quick couple of questions about the Giga Challenge:

1. Can we use Custom Scenery? As in scenery we've downloaded and installed them into the game as custom objects?

2. Can we include shops / food outlets etc.? (I was thinking of making a photo/souvenir shop at the ride exit).

1. No, you can only use scenery provided in the base games and expansions.

2. Again no, this is purely a coaster contest, as such no other stalls or attractions can be placed.

Hope that helps eyeamthu1

It may not be totally about this contest, but where are you getting the custom scenery?

Hey coasterfreak101,

There isn't much custom scenery for RCT3 yet but the few pieces that are available can be found on the official Atari Community RCT3 Exchange. This thread has links to most of the stuff that's out there. My Mario 3 set might one day get released

As for RCT2, there are a couple of sites that have custom scenery for download... RCT*Mart is my fave though.

RCT*Mart - You need to register on the site before a lot of the links work.

UCES (User Created Expansion Pack) - the UCES is definitely worth a download. It has some really nice pieces.

Hope that helps!

Do you get points for realism? Because I HATE using that "lift, turn, lift, turn" style to get heigth.

Mine is gonna be not tall at all for that, but I think everybody just has to look at EGF to see that this is not needed.

You don't get "POINTS" for anything, these contests are for fun.

As long as your coaster meets the requirements it passes to the voting stage.

People then vote on which one they like the best, it's as simple as that.

P.S. can you please post comments and questions in the RCT Coaster Challenge CHAT! thread?

Really sorry for that, somehow I missed that...

Anyway.I know you don't get "points". But I'm wondering if you kind of get "rewarded" on here for beeing realistic, or if it does not matter to most members...

Then again, i don't know why I ask this, I won't change my style anyway

p.s. Are we allowed to continue the theming outside the 20x30 area? i.e. have the park surrounded by mountains, or a lake?

Hey FishyFish,

First, good looking coaster

To answer your question, all theming has to be within the 20x30 area, theming and land structure outside the 20x30 area can still have an effect on the coasters ratings. Keeping it all within the 20x30 area keeps it fair and easier to judge/monitor.

Cool. I'm pretty certain that none of my scenery is outside the 20x30 boundary.

Thanks BTW.

Well, you don't get rewarded for realism exactly, it depends, that realism might win you a vote over a less realistic coaster, it depends on the members who vote.

But again this is just for fun anyway. Being an unofficial contest, the only thing you WIN is a banner and the satisfaction of designing something that is appreciated by other members.

As for the rest of the Roller Coaster Video Games forum, overall Realism is appreciated in both parks and coasters as generally they "look" better.

For some of the contests realism goes out the window due to enforced restraints. But again it is down to the individual what coaster they design and how they want it to look.

Cool. I'm pretty certain that none of my scenery is outside the 20x30 boundary.

Thanks BTW.

No problem It's good to see such good entries so soon after starting this challenge.

I believe that I followed the rules Pucechan. Would you mind checking out my Hell Mouth coaster to make sure?

I'll check it out in the morning Erik... It is currently 01:45am and I'm shattered lol.

It looks fine from the pics but I'll check it out properly and let you know. If there is anything wrong with it I will PM you.

Have fun everyone

mine's done. it's not really tall with death-defying drops and helixes out the wazoo. and it's done in RCT2. no hills, no fake tunnels. there is a lake though. -BUT- it's awesome in it's own respect, it's VERY well themed, and even has some hidden theming surprises that the rider can look for during various parts of the ride. (kind of like Big Thunder Mountain, ya know?)

and for your enjoyment, 2 teaser pics of entry #2. this time I decided to do something a little different and I made a Kiddie Giga Coaster. this one is aptly titled "Toothache". and just to mess with the minds of the kids who will be riding this, and to give the adults and parents something to notice and complain about, I included a ghastly out-of-place hidden scenery feature among the cutesy candy themeing.

I was going to make my second coaster candy themed (albeit in RCT3).

Oh well, might have to rethink it a bit now (although my coaster idea should stand the change of theme without any problem).
