Computer attack, again?

Recommended Posts

So randomly today I've started getting all these pop-up bubbles telling me my systems being hijacked, stealth intrusion, malware intrusion, so on & so forth. Now I remember from last time someone mentioned you're never suppose to trust the bubbles that pop-up so I've advised all of my family to just ex out of them.

this is what comes up, anyone heard of it?

We use Webroot Antivirus & our computer has been working fine, and now all this junk is coming up. I've never seen this Antivirus XP on my computer before, so I don't know where it's coming from exactly.

Any thoughts on what may be causing this?

It sounds similiar to one I had on Vista called Antivirus Vista. If you do a search on the net you'll find tips to get rid of it. I have Spybot Search & Destroy and that got rid of it after running some code I got off the net but then it came back. I think it can't get past more robust antivirus programs like Nortons (which I can't run on my laptop because it slows it down too much).

I don't have a lot of stuff on my laptop, so I just said stuff it and wiped it and re-installed Windows.

But like I said do a search, there were plenty of tips on how to deal with Antivirus Vista, so there should be like wise for XP.

If you ever come across who came up with Ativirus Vista/XP, kick them in the balls for me.

Never had this, though I did get a similar popup once a few months ago, but it didn't install anything.

Latest version of AVG + AdAware, watching where you click, and general updating will have you clear.

^ LOL

You must've either...

1) Accidentally clicked on one of those antivirus ads that appears all over the place. Some of them have a fake close button, be extra careful of those.

2) Allowed somebody on your computer and they proceeded to click through one of those fake antivirus ads out of fear.

I've had this happen on my old laptop repeatedly and gotten hundreds of those popups as a result. Just get a legit antivirus (listed above) as well as Adblock +/Flash Block for your Firefox. You'll never run into another one of those ads ever again and if you do, just block the ad/frame.

That is a particularly agressive spyware program. I've seen it dozens of times.

Download & Install MalwareBytes and it should be able to get it out of there.

Good luck.

I've had this virus on my laptop which runs Windows XP and I found the MalwareBytes programs works like a charm.

The virus that I got was a little more elaborate than the one in this topic. In addition to all the fake antivirus pop ups it changed my desktop background to some obnoxious color with the text "Your computer is infected with spyware!" I feel bad for the souls who might actually purchase this phony software.

Yes, I used to have the virus. The only thing to do is to go to your local staples or computer repair place and get it fixed. Hope this helps!

Unless you want to overpay to have some teenager with little knowledge "fix" your computer, don't take it to a big box store like Staples. You're just throwing your money away.

This has been out for a while. I used to be a tech at Circuit City and removed it a few dozen times. There is a tool out called smitfraudfix which will remove it automatically. All you have to do is boot into safe mode (F8 when the computer first turns on) and run the program.

I downloaded Malwarebytes, did a scan, and removed it. No more pop-ups since. Thanks for all the help & advice guys! Hopefully this doesn't happen anytime soon again, as it's super freaking annoying!!

Regular virus scanning and adware scanning will keep this stuff away. I've had it a few times, and have gotten rid of it every time.

Sometimes, though, I've wondered whether the anti-virus software makers actually create some of the spyware/adware/junkware that their products are supposed to delete. Think about that...
