Sadly, I cannot make it to West Coast Bash. I really wish I could though, but it's a week too early.

I might head out to California on March 27th to April 3rd or 4th. I just wanna know what are the crowds like at SFMM during this time? If the schools are out, or if people are off work, does it get incredibly packed?

Thanks.....! I haven't been to SFMM since 2002, so I hope to come back.

Oh! And do they runs both sides of Colossus?

SFMM can get packed during spring break, but mid-week days are probably the best days to go.

Colossus usually only runs both sides during Fright Fest when one side runs backwards. But there is rarely enough of a crowd to justify running both sides.

This video pretty much sums up the crowds during spring break...EXTREME!!!

I went on a Thursday during break last year, and Goliath's line was 1-2 hours. We barely rode anything all day. It wasn't that fun.

The dates of your spring break also coincide with LAUSD spring break which is a giant school district here in SoCal. Prepare for the worst, hope for the best, get a Qbot!

It is not spring break here locally in Valencia, but that could end up hurting you even more because they won't have as much staff during the week.

I have made the mistake of visiting SFMM during Spring Break twice in my life. Once in 2006 and once in 2003. Both times the lines were unbearable. On the 2003 visit X had a 2 hr line 10 mins after the park opened. When we came back at 4:00 the line was up to 3.5 hrs. These two visits are the only two times I have ever gone to SFMM and did not have fun. On the 2006 visit I was at the park for 10 hours and only got on 9 total rides. This was helped a little since Scream did not have a line and I got 3 walk ons. On both visits part way through the day I wished I would not have gone to the park. You have one huge advantage I did not have on these two visits, Q-Bot. I would highly recommend the Gold.

I went to SFMM during Spring Break in 2005, it was by far the worst theme park experience I have ever had.

Goliath had a 2 hour wait and was running one train

X had a 4 hour wait and was running one train

Viper line was all the way out the entrance and was running one train

All the other rides had at least 45-90min waits

Deja Vu wasn't even open

Crowds were unruly

I'm sure the park has gotten a little better at handling crowds since my visit, but I will not step foot into that park during Spring Break.

Good Luck, your going to need it.

I've never been to Six Flags Magic Mountain during spring break, but I've been to three other major Southern California amusement parks during this time, and I assume it will be similar. Going to any park during spring break is usually a bad idea, as lines are outrageous (1 hour or more for all major attractions) or the park is understaffed and not operating at capacity (1 train per coaster). My guess is that if you get a Gold Q-bot you might have an okay day, but still not as good as you would a different time of year.

My personal policy on amusement parks during a school break (excluding summer) is to only visit minor amusement parks and/or show-based parks (Universal Studios and SeaWorld). These are parks where it is usually not too difficult to do everything in one day even if the park is packed. I would never go to a park like Six Flags Magic Mountain during a school break (outside of an event such as West Coast Bash), but if you do go hopefully you will have a good time.

I'm considering to change my trip date to march 6th,

to be more specific, which march days are good to go to SFMM?

Posted

^I would say any day in March will be fine.

However, as a warning in general...All the So Cal parks are handing out major "discounts" to locals: Disneyland has the 2fer, Knott's has discounted their pass to $60, Universal is offering the "Buy-a-day, get 2010 free" pass with no blackout dates this year, Sea World is doing a "buy-a-day, get 2010 free" pass, and SFMM has their play pass for $55.

All that adds up to the parks being filled with locals taking advantage of those great deals! It's going to be extremely busy at all the parks.
