This thread is intended for general chatting about the challenge as well as a place for people to show the coasters they are working on. Thanks for all the interest in the contest so far, it's been really encouraging ! Most importantly, have fun with the contest.
crispy
Yipee i would say more, but i think pucechan covered everything remember if you have any question you don't want answered here, like what is a coaster, you can always pm me or pucechan
kenshinmac
Ok here is a simple question... Is reduced friction allowed on RCT3?
crispy
Yes, low friction can be used
coasterdude5
I think its going to be a great turnout! Thanks Crispy and Pucechan for working and getting this organized!
crispy
Hey, i think this is going to be a blast, and while were in the RCT competition chat, anyone can give us some idea's on what you would like to for the next coaster competition
coasterdude5
I think a good competition would be LIM launched coaster 15x15, at least three inversions with only one launched section.
kenshinmac
Truth be told I never figured out the multiple launch sections... I wanted to launch from an area that wasn't the station...
coasterdude5
Truth be told I never figured out the multiple launch sections... I wanted to launch from an area that wasn't the station... Block brakes. Just set the speed at which you would like it to be launched at. It always works for me.
robbalvey
Can I ask a question, and maybe this is more for the die-hard RCT players, but what is with the 15 x 15 thing? Why can't it just be "build a coaster in a pre-determined style with a set rating and everyone votes for their favorite?" I tried doing a woodie with the 15 x 15 restriction and it was just so frustrating for me! I like being able to just 'build' and not have to worry about size or shape or anything. I guess that's the challenge? I find I can do much better designs doing it free form. Having to build a coaster in a 'box' just seems like it restricts any kind of creativity. But that's just me. What does everyone else think? --Robb "Who has never seen any other RCT competition so I have no idea what the restrictions usually are." BiCoastal Kid
^The real challenge isnt to be most creative, but to squeeze the most out of a little area. There are a lot of Challenges set up like this, from what I've seen. In more than just RCT as well,, a lot of challenges seem to deal with the whole "tight fit" thing. eyeamthu1
I'd quite like a competition where you not only design the coaster track, but you actually theme the ride as well... And yeh, the 15x15 squares is pretty restrictive, and it's really difficult to make a realistic coaster design with the necessary ratings. Perhaps a larger sized plot of land to build on would be better for a future contest? But no real complaints, RCT competition = cool!
coasterdude5
^ I like the extra challenge but it would be nice to have a "free" contest where you use a pre-picked style and just go crazy. I mean, there's never a square coaster! But I still love the contests, restrictions or no restrictions!
Sir Clinksalot
^ yeah there aren't many square coasters but 15x15 is the maximum size you can have in this contest. I've built a few that are only 12x14 etc. I have spent hours and hours actually having fun trying to build the perfect 15x15 coaster. But who knows what the next contest will be? It could be to design a 20x20 or a 30x30 coaster, or to design a small park or whatever. As long as it's fun I will be entering. Thanks Chris and Simon for putting in the time and effort for us to able to do this!
coasterdude5
^ Yeah, I think everybody owes a big thank you to Pucechan and Crispy!
Sir Clinksalot
Can I ask a question, and maybe this is more for the die-hard RCT players, but what is with the 15 x 15 thing? Why can't it just be "build a coaster in a pre-determined style with a set rating and everyone votes for their favorite?" Hey Robb, the 15x15 thing is really a way of making interesting designs you wouldn't normally see. Having to fit inside a limit means you do have to be use space more creatively to produce something that meets the requirements. 15x15 was decided on, because it's big enough that it's not too hard but still leaves room for peoples coasters to be different. On most competition sites especially enthusiast ones, they tend to do crazy sizes like 10x10 or even 10x8 which are EXTREMELY difficult and tend to err on the frustrating rather than fun side. ^The real challenge isnt to be most creative, but to squeeze the most out of a little area. There are a lot of Challenges set up like this, from what I've seen. In more than just RCT as well,, a lot of challenges seem to deal with the whole "tight fit" thing. I agree mostly BiCoastal although I do think it requires creativity to design within the "box". But the "tight fit" thing definitely seems a draw to these kind of contests. I'd quite like a competition where you not only design the coaster track, but you actually theme the ride as well... Those will definitely happen eyeamthu1, this initial 15x15 challenge was mostly to assess interest. There are LOTS of things you can do with a coaster contest. Some examples of possible future coaster contests are: * Being given an existing ride and being asked to theme it. * Design a coaster with/or without a size limit and that meets certain criteria. (amount of inversions etc.) * Design a racing/dueling coaster that meets certain criteria. There are other contest ideas too, partly completed parks to finish, theming challenges, scenarios. There is a lot of scope here for fun and entertaining challenges. So don't worry if this first one isn't exactly your cup of tea. ^ I like the extra challenge but it would be nice to have a "free" contest where you use a pre-picked style and just go crazy. I mean, there's never a square coaster! But I still love the contests, restrictions or no restrictions! Hey coasterdude5, you're entry still amazes me lol but yeah there will be "free" style contests and other types. Both crispy and I are still discussing how some of these contests will run but this should be a really fun thing ! I have to thank everyone for their interest, it really has been a big boost to myself and crispy. A big thanks to crispy for asking me to help out. crispy
Robb, Your coaster is awesome looking, but way huge, you would need to sixflag that ride, meaning, trim brakes like mad Slow seems to be the way to go, keep the train going a bit slower, add a water splash at the end, and use the articulating style trains also, since you have Soaked, you only need a 6.3 excitment rating As for a free form coaster challenge, great suggestion, we could also do one on style, like an out and back style woodie
Hicko
I just need to try and sqeeze an extra .7 for excitement from my coaster. Talk about frustrating
Hattuchili
I am very curious, how many different tracks we will see at the challenge. When I am back home, I will start to build my coaster for the challenge. --Sören
crispy
a few tips use the articulating coaster train, it won't raise the intesity, but will raise the excitment, and if you can put a water splash at the end of your coaster
Hicko
I already have the articulated train and it doesn't raise the excitement but it does bring me under the 8 intensity bracket. Also the water splash I refuse to use just beacuse I want it to be a classic woody with classic features 8)
coasters 4 me
I find it quite annoying. I built one last night and the excitment was 9.7 and the intensity was 8.6. It is so annoying. Also, for who asked what should the next challenge be, I think it should be the most realistic coaster, like build one that you would see in a theme park. Eg, MF, Kraken, Superman Ultimate flight etc.
eyeamthu1
Also the water splash I refuse to use just beacuse I want it to be a classic woody with classic features 8) Yeh, I didn't use any brakes or water splash for that reason! I tried to make as realistic a coaster as possible
crispy
^^^, six flags brakes thier woodies to death, well some of them, lol There are tricks to getting the excitment up, but if you feel like making it a classic woodie, more power to you
Mrs_Chickenleg
I love RCT! But I don't have RCT3 yet. I have only just joined TPR so is it too late to enter this contest? I would be entering using RCT2. Can someone tell me if this is ok?
