the ghost Posted June 24, 2009 Posted June 24, 2009 Thor is a completely handbuilt custom coaster by the gravity group, this coaster features amazing airtime, strong forces, and thrilling pacing. My goal was to try to recreate the wild feeling of a coaster by TGG and try to make a kick ass concept with it. There are a few minor pumps, and a moment of yellow g force(it is an amount that is attained on certain real life coasters) Thor also uses the natural terrain to its advantage, creating an unforgettable experience. Max Speed 63 mph Drop Height 195 feet Track length 6431 feet, over a mile of awesome track Comments/Criticism always welcome. thor.nltrack THOR-enjoy your ride!
Thelegendarymatthew Posted June 24, 2009 Posted June 24, 2009 The ride was pretty good, but I have a few things to pick at. -The footers being everywhere -The tree, and rails that go in the middle of the track -The very extream head choppers. -Yellow? Other than that I did like the ride, it did have a few "yellow" spots, but it was still pretty good. -Matthew "better than that GCI" K.
AmyUD06 Posted June 24, 2009 Posted June 24, 2009 +1 on the above comments, and a layout that long really should have at least one, if not two, block brakes along the course to enable more trains/greater throughput.
the ghost Posted June 24, 2009 Author Posted June 24, 2009 Thanks TLM, I will eliminate the trees(just noticed now) and kill some of the head choppers.
nemesiscrazy Posted June 24, 2009 Posted June 24, 2009 I actually enjoyed the ride, however it could be improved. Maybe bank the bottom of the curved drops a bit more. To lower the laterals a little. Like what has been said above, put some block brakes in to increase capacity but if you do, don't ruin the great pacing that the coaster has. Also it rolled back on the flat before the turn into the block brakes at the end. Is it my simulator or the track?
themeparkman25 Posted June 24, 2009 Posted June 24, 2009 ^I think just your simulator because it worked fine for me, though I will say it was painfully slow over that hill. For the most part I would have to agree with TLM on what he had to say. I do not get at all why there are footers in the middle of nowhere that attach to supports now many feet beneath the ground (I don't even get how you did that cause whenever I terraform you can never place a support beneath the ground). Also I would have to agree with the extreme headchoppers and the appearance of other places it failed a tunnel test. Now I do think the ride was fun when you look at it for airtime and layout and it did seem to carry its speed well (minus the end). Keep up the good work, I didn't think it was half bad.
the ghost Posted June 24, 2009 Author Posted June 24, 2009 Thanks for the positive comments/constructive criticism guys! I have work and my college class tonight, so expect the Thor updated version tomorrow or the next day. The foliage that is on the tracks will be removed, a second car has been added, and I am working on modifying the woodmagic supports so that the headchoppers are not so extreme, also, I re-added the supports, so the footers are no longer buried.
Eric_Smith Posted June 24, 2009 Posted June 24, 2009 The one thing that stood out to me is the Gravity Group would never use GCI Flyer trains. Also, you had several tunnel test failures, one tree in the middle of the track, and the pacing at the end was horrid. Sorry for being harsh, just giving my thoughts.
the ghost Posted June 24, 2009 Author Posted June 24, 2009 ^ Thanks for your constructive criticism. I forgot to mention that this would be the first GG coaster to feature it's signature Timber Flyer trains, as this seems to be more twisted than the average GG coaster(besides boardwalk bullet, which supposedly needs timber flyers) also, the tree will be removed, and the headchoppers will be less extreme, although it will still fail the tunnel test.
AmyUD06 Posted June 30, 2009 Posted June 30, 2009 I do not get at all why there are footers in the middle of nowhere that attach to supports now many feet beneath the ground (I don't even get how you did that cause whenever I terraform you can never place a support beneath the ground). That's what happens when you do Auto-Supports before adjusting terrain height in the terraformer.
