TYTL Posted June 2, 2009 Posted June 2, 2009 For those of you who have ever visited SFMM, post-2002, you probably remember X or X2, right? For those of you who have not yet gone to SFMM, you still may have gone on a 4th Dimension roller coaster. Arrow created the suspended roller coaster. As you probably know, Arrow's suspended roller coaster swings. The swinging motion made by the cars seems to be the fourth dimension. It is a variable. The combined weight of the passengers determines the number of degrees the car swings and how fast it returns to the normal state of just hanging down. Who agrees, who disagrees?
TYTL Posted June 2, 2009 Author Posted June 2, 2009 Those were called "suspended coasters" Didn't I say that?
MagicMountainMan Posted June 2, 2009 Posted June 2, 2009 In a sense I guess that those could be 4D coasters... But then at the same time what about a stand up coaster? Or a boomerang? Those have an extra added 'dimension' to them. To me it's just a marketing ploy.
TYTL Posted June 2, 2009 Author Posted June 2, 2009 Well I was just thinking. I didn't think about what types, just that X isn't the only 4D. It is the only of its kind, but not physically the only 4D.
atem122 Posted June 2, 2009 Posted June 2, 2009 Werner Stengel created the first suspended coaster named "Alpen Flug"...well designed at least
TYTL Posted June 2, 2009 Author Posted June 2, 2009 Even so, my point is X isn't the only physically 4D coaster.
Guest Posted June 2, 2009 Posted June 2, 2009 Even so, my point is X isn't the only physically 4D coaster. So what in your words defines a 4D coaster? You're probably just technically speaking, in which case, what point exactly are you trying to get at? 4D coaster - Coaster where cars "spin" freely on an axis. Suspended Coaster - Coaster where cars "swing" freely from a pivot point.

Suspended Coaster - Coaster where cars "swing" freely from a pivot point. That about fits my description. Any motion influenced by the passenger can tag it as 4D. If it spins on an axis, swings, or anything along those lines separates it from 3D to 4D.
Mechanic Posted June 2, 2009 Posted June 2, 2009 Any motion influenced by the passenger can tag it as 4D Please tell me what influence the passengers have on the seat motions of what are currently considered to be 4D coasters?
