Coaster Palooza Posted July 26, 2005 Posted July 26, 2005 I am not going to write up a big report on this one. My buddy Bob and his wife picked me up to go to SCBB on Friday to see the Eddie Money concert, ride The Giant Dipper and their new Double Shot ride. Gyendolynne works in Santa Cruz and we would meet up with her. Double Shot is only 125 feet, and after being on Big Shot at the Stratosphere in Vegas, this one is pretty small. It is a very smooth drop, though. The beach was crowded by the time we got there and we didn't get really good seats to see the concert. We did have a great time though! I hope you enjoy the pics. Double Shot, I love a good drop Inside Us on the Giant Dipper National Landmark Parting shot of Eddie, before we go ride the coasters Gyendolynne, Bob, and Babbette, we enjoyed ourselves WOW, are we far away! A little closer, but still can't really see him too well Eddie Money is that man in white Another shot of the stage with Double Shot going off Our seats, can you see the stage? My buddy Bob Gyendolynne having an "adult" beverage The stage before the show
robbalvey Posted July 26, 2005 Posted July 26, 2005 Holy crap that's a lot of people on the beach!!!! Was the park crowded or was it one of those days where everyone was on the beach and no one was on the rides? I went one time during the Clam Chowder festival by accident and the park queues were EMPTY, but the beach was INSANE!!!! Thanks for posting the pics! --Robb "Nice T-shirt, Rick!" Alvey
Coaster Palooza Posted July 26, 2005 Author Posted July 26, 2005 Hey Robb! Glad to see you're doing fine on your trip. Those hotels look like you're slumming it though.... Rides were empty. They have a free concert every Friday. The band/group/singer will play at 6:30 and 8:30 for around 45 minutes. Once the concert was over, we went on dipper and there was no wait. We waited around 15 minutes to ride double shot. People always like something free! Including me
CoasterFanatic Posted July 26, 2005 Posted July 26, 2005 Awesome TR! // 50 Shows in 50 Days. Life is tough. Eddie Money is tougher!
Sir Clinksalot Posted July 26, 2005 Posted July 26, 2005 I think the most shocking part of the TR is ... ALL THOSE PEOPLE DROVE TO SCBB TO SEE EDDIE MONEY!!!! Other than that, nice TR.
Meteornotes Posted July 26, 2005 Posted July 26, 2005 We saw Eddie Money open for REO Speedwagon about three years ago. He was drunk off his ass, stumbling around stage and making all sorts of bizarre comments. An amusing evening. That had to be the largest number of people I've ever seen on the beach at Santa Cruz! I don't think I've seen a crowd anything close to that there... dt
WalrusMan Posted July 26, 2005 Posted July 26, 2005 So how was Eddie Money? Was actually pondering going there before I remembered that it was over a hill that my car won't make it over. And did something else anyways....wasn't free but was good enough. I was there a few weeks back when Colin Hay performed (Not for his performance though!). And yeah the lines were pretty short, 10 for Double Shot and barely on an incline for the Dipper. And a few questions, how late did you stay? And, was the last car of the Dipper roped off?
DenDen Posted July 26, 2005 Posted July 26, 2005 Shu-shu-shu-she was shakin'! I didn't even know he was still alive! Guess that's what I get for living in a club-mecca of electronica and DJ's.
CoasterFanatic Posted July 26, 2005 Posted July 26, 2005 Puppet Show And Spinal Tap I told them a thousand times. The sign should be Eddie Money AND Puppet Show.
FlyingScooter Posted July 26, 2005 Posted July 26, 2005 Awesome TR. Eddie Money. seems like a million years ago he dominated the radio. Ted, these go to eleven!
Coaster Palooza Posted July 26, 2005 Author Posted July 26, 2005 ^5 Eddie Money was alright. The 6:30 show didn't start until around 6:45, which is okay for us because it took FOREVER to friggin' park! That place outside was packed and the main parking lot on the end wasn't open when we went by it around 6:00. That sucked! We had to get back in line and go through the whole thing again. We stayed until around 9:30. We saw the beginning of the second show and left. The last car on Dipper wasn't roped off.
PhishyBrewer Posted July 26, 2005 Posted July 26, 2005 Very Nice there Rick! My mom would of loved to see Eddie Money. Shows how young I am. Some dude from Men at Work was playing there when I was there during the 4th of July. Did you take the Mustang down? Men at Work???? Random
WalrusMan Posted July 26, 2005 Posted July 26, 2005 I was there the same day, the 4th. And that's when they had the back car of the Dipper roped off, got the best ride of my life sitting in the 2nd to last car.
Coaster Palooza Posted July 26, 2005 Author Posted July 26, 2005 ^^My friend actually picked me up because Gyendolynne was already over the hill since she works in Santa Cruz. My Mustang usually doesn't make the trip to the beach.
