TheStig Posted July 8, 2009 Posted July 8, 2009 Even when it's not mechanical you still get it. I wasn't really trying to hard though, heh.
Mechanic Posted July 8, 2009 Posted July 8, 2009 Lots of Discovery channel helps. Â Ok, next item. WTF is it? (Could be really easy)
Troll Posted July 8, 2009 Posted July 8, 2009 Looks like a lock barrel - the thing that turns when the key is put in it
jamjar Posted July 8, 2009 Posted July 8, 2009 the thingy inside a tap, you know, that stops it from turning?
Mechanic Posted July 9, 2009 Posted July 9, 2009 Sorry, but both of those are incorrect. Looks like time for a hint: Think wheeled vehicle.
Vekoma Fan Boy Posted July 9, 2009 Posted July 9, 2009 According to the file name... Â Its SOMETHING! Â Seriously, is it part of a clutch or drive system? Â Â Or, just cuz... Â A dildo?
Mechanic Posted July 9, 2009 Posted July 9, 2009 Seriously, is it part of a clutch or drive system? Â You're the closest so far. Yes, it is part of a drive system. What part?
Mechanic Posted July 9, 2009 Posted July 9, 2009 ^ Close enough. It's a shift drum for a motorcycle transmission.
TheStig Posted July 10, 2009 Posted July 10, 2009 ^Wow, that isn't obvious. Technically yes, but how?
TheStig Posted July 10, 2009 Posted July 10, 2009 ^Eh close enough. It's called a variometer, and it attaches to a bottle like device via a tube. In gliders, you don't have a source of power so it works by air pressure. It takes longer for the pressure to change in the bottle then it does outside, so the pressure differences tells you how fast, in knots, you are ascending or descending.
Mechanic Posted July 11, 2009 Posted July 11, 2009 Thanks for the benefit of the doubt. Â Ok, here's the next item:
Mechanic Posted July 12, 2009 Posted July 12, 2009 No, not a wheel spacer either. In normal operation, it doesn't even rotate.
