mcjaco Posted March 9, 2009 Posted March 9, 2009 Jack, Can you post a little info on what the video is???
jarmor Posted March 9, 2009 Posted March 9, 2009 Cool station...I guess thats the main focal point cause the layout is...well..."fun"...yeah thats it fun...
paintballer Posted March 9, 2009 Posted March 9, 2009 ^^ I haven't seen it yet (Work block) But It's most likely the video for their new kit "Pheonix" with a working station.
Jack Rimer Posted March 9, 2009 Author Posted March 9, 2009 The video shows our new Phoenix model at the Chicago Hobby show last fall. The kits will be shipping later this month. This model is shown with the optional chaser light and lift steps. The standard model comes in the colors shown along with the working station. It also includes a NoLimits demo CD that allows the user to "ride" the Phoenix as you would any other NoLimits coaster. It was made specifically for us by the guys at NoLimits, custom-made for the layout of the Phoenix. The shoulder harnesses raise as the train enters the station. The train pauses 30 seconds (or can be overridden by the pushbutton). As it departs, the harnesses lower. The model is made up of rigid and flex track pieces to facilitate assembly.
Jack Rimer Posted March 9, 2009 Author Posted March 9, 2009 Cool station...I guess thats the main focal point cause the layout is...well..."fun"...yeah thats it fun... The layout is meant to be "practical" not "fun". Easy to assemble. Quick to build. If you want to make a fun layout, we sell expansion packs. For the other 99% of the paying public, this layout will suffice.

The work block won't let me view it. Jarmor, I'm pretty sure the layout of this particular model has been debated before, with Jack explaining the reasonings behind it's design.
Devious Posted March 9, 2009 Posted March 9, 2009 Assuming the standard track here, one could always reverse or overbank the turns or just add more to them to make it less "Bland" but thats the whole point of making it customizable Cant wait for this =D
Jack Rimer Posted March 9, 2009 Author Posted March 9, 2009 I suppose posting on a coaster enthusiast site is not the best place to showcase a model geared towards the general public. The big picture inevitably get obscured by criticism. One must keep in mind that while our current offerings cater more towards the purist, that does not necessarily translate into commercial success. A kit that is user friendly, however, does have a much better chance of achieving those goals. Of course, a kit that caters to the masses must be inherintly simple in layout and construction. I do find it amusing, though, that even the most basic Knex project typically gets lavished with praise and kudos, while we get critiqued. Perhaps we are held to a higher standard because our models are more realistic....I don't know. By the way, the street price on this kit will be a little over $100.
mcjaco Posted March 9, 2009 Posted March 9, 2009 ^ It's inevitable Jack. I think the purist sees these highly scaled models, and expects to see true to life coaster layouts, with "scale" speeds, etc. Whereas the business side of it really needs to appeal to a much wider audience, that will make it profitable. Let's be honest, the general public is not going to notice or care if it's an actual track layout. They just want to put it together and watch it go. And that's a good thing, it can bring more people into the hobby, and perhaps more people to your table to buy additional kits. As for the K'nex stuff, I've always been impressed with what people come up with, but it's toyishness turns me off. Then again, I'm a scale modeler, so I kind of expect a higher quality of modeling. Either way, if you ahd told me ten to fifteen years ago that we'd have scale models of coasters, I would of told you "yeah right." Matt "who had the marbles on tracks" Jacobs
terrancew_hod Posted March 9, 2009 Posted March 9, 2009 I actually like this model; a lot more compact and I can almost find a place for it in my new room... that is if I can stop trying to correctly scale the girl's boobs in my 3D modeling program to fit the "Naughty Nurse" outfit! Terry
Cyber.Fiber Posted March 10, 2009 Posted March 10, 2009 SOMETHING IS HAPPENING! I have a feeling the Phoenix is going to be released very soon, the website is down right now... OOHHH I cannot wiat!!!!
Jack Rimer Posted March 13, 2009 Author Posted March 13, 2009 Ummmm, not yet. The site went down on its own. LOL. Not sure why. Sorry.
