SharkTums
Kip, you would cream yourself on Dodonpa... Seriously!
bgwfreak
Ok to not ask a dumb question (there are no dumb questions after all, or at least that's what trainers always say)... What stops Hypersonic on a rollback from flying backwards? Are there some type of brakes on the launch section? Hypersonice is painful for me and I really only ride once per visit. My first ride was very painful, I didn't hear the announcement about not raising my hands. I had blue legs the next day!
Mind Eraser
Elissa, I bet I would! The first time I felt the Hypersonic launch, I thought I was possibly gonna have a heart attack! I can't even imagine Dodonpa. Isn't it funny how it took S&S three coasters to figure out how to use regular trains and track? Bwahaha. "Hmm, maybe rubber tires aren't the best idea?" -kip-
Mind Eraser
bgwfreak, Hypersonic actually has brakes going UP the tower, so when the train falls down backwards, the brakes slow it. Then the brakes on the launch track do the rest.
bgwfreak
^ I knew about the brakes on the face of the side you go up. Thank goodness for those things. Otherwise I'd have PURPLE legs. lol
Mind Eraser
Actually, I don't think the tower brakes engage as the train goes up. Otherwise, it would screw up the launching sequence. The train is weighed and just enough force is used to get the train to slowly roll over the top of the hill. Obviously, this weighing/launching mechanism is not perfect or there wouldn't be so many roll backs on Hypersonic, ya know? -kip- (Been on a Flight of Fear rollback, but that was pretty dumb; I want a Volcano rollback!) SharkTums
Oh god, I would LOVE a volcano rollback! Elissa "that would be nice!" Alvey
it
A poltergeist rollback would be nice! I love LIM launched coasters!
haydawg149
actually, there is another way to retreive coasters when they roll back, because when i was at WOF, Boomerang had a rollback in the Loop, lift part, they used something just like they use to pull up the back spike. They attached it to the back of the train and it slowly rolled, inch by inch back into the station  .
bgwfreak
Oh god, I would LOVE a volcano rollback! Elissa "that would be nice!" Alvey Amen to that sister! And as far as the brakes on Hypersonic's front side, yeah they engage you can hear them release after the train goes over every time. It seems like just barely tap the train though. And no I'm not thinking of the huge air release from the compressor you hear after it launches either
X
I don't care that much if Boomerang is open for my SFMW trip since Bommerang isn't that great and I can ride it at Knotts! I would want to be in a Dragster or Kingda Ka rollback!
ahecht
When I was at PKD, we were waiting for Hypersonic to open and watched them do a brake test. They actually managed to stop the train vertically on the hill. That was quite impressive. However, at least when I was there, there was a kick tire on the top of the hill. Was that added after it got stuck on the top?
