Thelegendarymatthew Posted November 4, 2008 Posted November 4, 2008 Well I've lately seen some very bad rct2 parks on the site so I wanted to give out some tutorials for these parks that have been coming out. Heres my 10 rules for RCT2 1. Don't Rush - Take your time on your work and on something, don't have something that looks unfinished but it is 2. Focus on Realism - I have seen a few parks with few realistic rides and buildings. You need to focus on adding stuff that would be possible to place in real life. 3. Theme - You always need some sort of theme, even if the ride or area is in a blank unthemed section. Its considered an unknown theme which can be worked with basic usage of walls, roofs, and minor themeing. 4. Experience - Theres levels of exp. that are hard to decide what rank your at. Never say your at a low rank! 5. No Repeating - Don't repeat the same style of walls, flowers, rides, and terrain. It gets boring and tiresome. 6. Foliage - Use foliage wisely. if you have shrubs, bush's, flowers, and trees its considered foliage. 7. Blockyness - Always make your buildings different shapes. Add layers, balcony, and smaller buildings attached to the main one. 8. Terrain - Always use it unless your working in a flat area. It is very professional to have some noticeable terrain thats not randomly placed mountains. 9. Creative - Be creative and show that you don't copy and steal others work. Come up with anyway to make the park look good and realistic. 10. Fun - Have Fun! Well those are the tips. If I decide to make another tutorial I will -Matt.K
Chris Benvenuto Posted November 4, 2008 Posted November 4, 2008 I've seen some bad ones, and I'm what you consider a vet in the RCT community. (been in online forums for it since 2001) This is helpful, but when you say very bad, sometimes people are trying to do their best and bluntly saying that can offend people. (more then you can imagine) I'm not trying to start something bad with this thread or be mean, it's just that some people do their best and you just ripped on some of the couple that are doing whatever they can to become better or maybe haven't even played the game in awhile. Meanwhile, Matt, head over to RCT2.com and see how you think of the parks there. Some of them will just blow you away, and some may not. It's your choice! And yes I know your trying to help, just be more......nice about it. Because I haven't made a park in 2 years, and I'm trying to make another with another member on RCT2.com for the first time in awhile. But regardless of my opinion, some of these tips are useful. It just depends on how you use them and work with it
mcjaco Posted November 4, 2008 Posted November 4, 2008 ^ Well said. First, it's a game. No one should be told their park is bad. If they're having fun, that's all that matters. Second, to create a "tutorial" on how to make a good park is condescending. What makes you a "so called" expert at park building, where you can tell people how to build THEIR parks? Comments like this tend to shrink the community, not expand it. Finally, build what you want, how you want. If you want to post it here, GREAT! Just be warned that you will get criticism, hopefully, all of it will be constructive. Learn from others, test, plan, and put what you've learned into practice. And most of all, have fun. You spent money on the game for you to enjoy. No matter waht anyone else says, it's your game.
kalvin Posted November 4, 2008 Posted November 4, 2008 Do you have a older version of 8 Cars per trainer? His newest version doesnt let you merge tracks.
DBru Posted November 4, 2008 Posted November 4, 2008 ^Does your version crash your game when trying to merge tracks? (Mine does...)
DBru Posted November 4, 2008 Posted November 4, 2008 I personally think this thread would work out better if every person submitted one suggestion that helps them the most when playing RCT2. That way, no one tries to sound like an expert, and we all learn from each other... What do you think?
TTDluv123 Posted November 4, 2008 Posted November 4, 2008 I have a question for all those RCT Vets. How to you merge tracks on RCT2 because I see alot of people do it and I wana know how
the ghost Posted November 5, 2008 Posted November 5, 2008 I personally think this thread would work out better if every person submitted one suggestion that helps them the most when playing RCT2. That way, no one tries to sound like an expert, and we all learn from each other... What do you think? good idea.

Six Flags Enthuseast Posted November 5, 2008 Posted November 5, 2008 Does anyone know where I can find the newer version of the 8 cars trainer? Just wondering. My tip: A straight piece of queue can hold up to 5 peeps, a curved can hold 4 peeps. For balanced queue waiting, put a set of paths that is 3 or 4 times the # of people per train. For example, 28 people per train, 2 trains, 2x28=56, so put queue that can accomodate about 168 peeps. Hope it helps anyone with long waits!
DBru Posted November 5, 2008 Posted November 5, 2008 ^Hmm, never thought about that...but it makes sense. Thanks!
Thelegendarymatthew Posted November 5, 2008 Author Posted November 5, 2008 ^I would expect someone to ask for the older version. I do have both, and I'll just link them to you. Note, only the older version can merge. Another Note, you must have the functional thing for the trainer to work. 8cars.zip The newer one has no numbers to the right of it.
Chris Benvenuto Posted November 5, 2008 Posted November 5, 2008 The one biggest thing the annoys me about people telling people how to do things is ignorance. I mean, sure the guy is trying to help, but the thing I've always had against people who try to help is when they ignore suggestions and corrections to their comments. I mean sure, we all have times for where we do it, but with Matt's case here. Hate to say it, but it's his age, he's 13 and he thinks he's a prime example everyone should learn from yet that is far from truth. Vets like me, understand times when one wants everyone to improve in their own way. But this thread is a fine example where youth want to do things or want things in their image, and they hope everything else will be their way from here on out. I couldn't sleep for about 2 hrs last night and this was one of the many things going through my head (Election aside). I many seem biased with my statements, but this is truth coming from me. Once again, I don't intend to offend anyone on the site, it's just....it's just I've had problems with some members (not naming anyone in this post) and their age. I'm not using Matt as an example, not at all. But when it reaches times like this, where the youth want anything their way and expect it to be followed and/or made in their image. It really annoys me, to no end. Just my daily thought for today.
Thelegendarymatthew Posted November 5, 2008 Author Posted November 5, 2008 ^I was just giving out some stuff that I don't like. Some of the rules I follow, nothing wrong with that, right? -Matt
Team Thriller Posted November 5, 2008 Posted November 5, 2008 ^ There is nothing wrong with that. The problem is how you can present it. If you make yourself look like the almighty creator in Roller Coaster Tycoon, then that is just kinda wrong on your part. Giving tips and advice is wonderful, but telling them like you are the expert and how everyone else are not as good at the game as you, just makes the tips and advice seem like you are showing off, and makes people probably mad. Well I've lately seen some very bad rct2 parks on the site so I wanted to give out some tutorials for these parks that have been coming out. Heres my 10 rules for RCT2 Right there is your biggest mistake. "I've seen bad parks recently so follow MY tips so they will be better." I think that is a horrible intro to your helpful lessen. You should never say you have been seeing very bad rct2 parks. Honestly, there is no bad rct2 parks. People learn dude, you can't just buy the game and become a master. That is probably why this thread hasn't been doing how you hoped. I love seeing people posting parks as they are learning. I love seeing how they are trying. I love seeing how they learn and improve over time. IMO, that is better then many amazing parks. Just try to present yourself as a fellow learner and not an almighty leader --James
KPWoCkAxX Posted November 6, 2008 Posted November 6, 2008 but telling them like you are the expert and how everyone else are not as good at the game as you, just makes the tips and advice seem like you are showing off, and makes people probably mad. Probably makes people mad? It's bound to make people mad, it stopped Chris Benvenuto from sleeping. But seriously, don't act like a know-it-all, Because like people have said everyone statts off bad. Practise makes perfect mate, and that's the way it is. Again, posting tips and ways of helping people is fine but laying down rules is basically telling people what they Have to do. I learnt how to make a Giant Frisbee in RCT2, so if I can remember how I did it i'll probably show you guys.
Six Flags Enthuseast Posted November 7, 2008 Posted November 7, 2008 ^I haven't seen yours yet. I saw a good one on the "Random dump" thread that you post you latest creations on. Can't wait to see it!
