JonnyBoy
Hi guys, I'll be spending the 35 days in Tokyo with my girlfriend. I would like to visit about 3-5 theme parks less than 1.5 hours traveling time from Tokyo while I am here. Can you guys kindly recommend me the best theme parks to go? My general impression of the best few are the following: Tokyo DisneySea Fuji-Q Highland Yomiuriland Kasai Sea Life Park Sea Paradise Other notable mentions: Toshimaen (too cold during December for water theme parks?) LaQua Sega Joypolis Sanrio Puroland Thanks a lot for recommending! I really appreciate it
gisco
Tokyo Disneyland Cosmoworld Tobu Zoo has a great new coaster Kawasemi Toshimaen is not a water themed park. All these are easily reached by JR Line or Subway
robbalvey
My list is similar. I would suggest: Tokyo Disneyland Resort (2 days - 1 at Disneyland 1 at DisneySea) Joypolis area - LOTS to do here (Muscle Park, Palette Town, Mega Web, etc) You can get here around 4pm and spend the evening checking it all out. LaQua - Another great night spot. Spend an evening here. While I'm not the biggest Thunder Dolphin fan, it is one of the better coasters in Japan. Tobu Zoo - The new Intamin Mini-Hyper is probably the best coaster in Japan. Not to be missed! Yomiuriland - Nice park with 2 or 3 decent coasters. Cosmoworld - And yet again, another great night spot! Basically LaQua, Joypolis, and Comsoworld can all be done in the evening so you can still have a full day doing other Japan stuff before you head out to these parks. I really would reccomend two days at Disney, even if you're not the biggest Disney fan in the world, they are FANTASTIC parks! I think we have directions to all these parks in our Japan Trip Planning guide: http://www.themeparkreview.com/japan2004/japanguide1.htm --Robb
JonnyBoy
Oh wow, I didn't know about Tobu Zoo. Can you guys help rank the following theme parks from your favourite to least favourite so I would know which are better ones to go? - Fuji-Q Highland - Tobu Zoo - CosmoWorld - LaQua - Yomiuriland Also, for Disneyland & Sea, I was thinking of going to DisneySea during a weekday like Wednesday when it is not crowded, and to Disneyland for Christmas or New Year Countdown. Do you think this is a wise idea, or will it be way too crowded/unenjoyable on Christmas or New Year Countdown? Would Christmas or New Year Countdown be more fun? Last question, out of the week, I would assume Friday, Saturday & Sunday to be bad days for going to a themepark. Is monday to thursday equally empty? Or are there particular weekdays best suited for themeparks? Thanks a lot for helping me out guys!
denning
Tsujki fish market, avoiding the barrels of death is a ride you will never forget!
Meteornotes
Fuji-Q is one of the worst parks on the planet. I would strongly suggest not going there under any circumstance, unless you enjoy being frustrated by very long lines, crowds, and horrible operations. From your list, I'd rank them: Tobu Zoo (the Intamin mini-hyper is one of the greatest coasters in the world and should not be missed!) CosmoWorld (make sure you go at night!) Yomiuriland LaQua These are all worth visiting if you have the chance. dt
cfc
Tsujki fish market, avoiding the barrels of death is a ride you will never forget! You might want to substitute this for Fuji-Q. I haven't been to the Tobu Zoo, but I rank the others as follows (I enjoyed visiting each of them): Yomiuriland LaQua Cosmoworld When at LaQua, be sure to check out Zombie Paradise--one weird dark ride. Rastuso
It's good to see everyone agreed with me about Kawasemi. That ride just kicked all sorts of ass, which is why I posted my vid of it. I don't understand the love for Cosmoworld. Besides the fact that it was waaaay out of the way, unless you also visit Sea Paradise which is even further away, it just didn't do much for me. Vanish was painful, and had serious gray out power in the helix. THe log ride was unique, but nothing great. The dark rides were neat, especially Kill Bill the ride, but few people would appreciate them as I did. Joypolis was great, but also suffered greatly by many of the more unique attractions only being in Japanese. I think Hanayashiki should be above Cosmoworld. It's like a Japanese Blackpool with it's ride/space ratio, albeit on a much smaller scale, but definitely worth a side trip. Plus the temple there is awesome, and there are tons of souvenirs for sale. As for LaQua, Geopolis is closed unitl next year, and is being redone, and I assume that's where the dark ride was, since I sure didn't see it. I loved Thunder Dolphin. At night, just seeing TOkyo going off to the horizon in every direction, and riding a very fun coaster was a highlight of Japan. Had I not been there on a very busy night, and gotten more rides, I would have loved it even more. And ABSOLUTELY read through Robb's Japan guide. It was unbelievably helpful in planning. ANd remember that almost all 7-11s have ATMs that take American debit cards for cash, which you will need a lot of. -RO

Yeah, that whole area is closed. From what I understand it's all been gutted and it will re-open with a brand new coaster. I'm not sure if the dark ride will survive or not. As far as my ranking, this is a hard call, because are you asking me to rank the overall park or the coasters? Thing is Tobu Zoo doesn't have THAT much more to offer other than Kawasemt. Regina (the woodie) was brutal on our last visit, and other than that there is a mouse and a kiddie. If ranking the overall park keeping everything in mind including the surrounding areas and other attractions, I would do them in this order. - LaQua - CosmoWorld - Tobu Zoo - Yomiuriland - Fuji-Q Highland (assume the giant blank spot is every other park in the world) --Robb

The dark ride was sort of tucked under the escalators. I hadn't heard about the redo of Geopolis, but I hope Zombie Paradise survives--it's a "WTF" experience like GeoPanic, only without the pain. philcoaster83
I'll be spending the 35 days in Tokyo with my girlfriend. Surely you could do the lot! 35 days is plenty of time. It's very easy to do 2+ parks in a day. I managed to do it back in the summer of 2005. CosmoWorld and Sea Paradise can be done in a day. Plus you can visit Landmark Tower and ride a Bullet Train to get there to boot. Yomiuriland and Toshimaen ar another combo. I managed to fit in the Skyscrapers at Shinjuku in the same day. Tobu Zoo (which at the time just had Regina as its highlight) is easily reached from Asakusa train station (about an hour). This station is close to the small park of Hanayashiki which is also near to the Sensoji Shrine. I managed this in a day and still managed LaQua in the evening. The latter park great fun watching all the businessmen having a go on Thunder Dolphin before going home from work. Some ideas for your consideration. robbalvey
^ This is pretty much how it's outlined in our Japan Guide. If you want to do multiple parks in a day, this is a good way to do it. I kind of got the feeling though that they wanted to take things a bit more slowly. But yeah, if you want to fit in a bunch of parks it totally can be done! --Robb
hamu86
I personally find Tokyo Disneyland's long lines, lack of beer, and rude clientele to be pretty frustrating.
SharkTums
^Yeah we know...all you ever post is how you hate TDR and love FujiQ. Thanks!
hamu86
Well, not sure where you got the idea that I hate TDR. Both TDL and TDS are among my favorite parks, but they can still be really annoying at times. Same thing goes for Great Adventure.
