bert425 Posted May 12, 2017 Posted May 12, 2017 you took a LOT of pics, and all of them good! thanks for sharing, Bill!
Nrthwnd Posted May 13, 2017 Author Posted May 13, 2017 ^Thanks, Bert! See you in, what? Three weeks, Cedar Point & CoasterMania!...? Like I said before. Demented, but in a Grandfatherly kind of way.
Nrthwnd Posted May 13, 2017 Author Posted May 13, 2017 Here's the new 2017 Park Map & Flyer for Playland and... Best - Find - Ever! ..... Inside Info. I got a kick out of this part. Back of it. Remember this place? And in the middle of all the cotton candy, lollipops and fudge... Was this.
Nrthwnd Posted May 14, 2017 Author Posted May 14, 2017 Here's the other photos I took of today's visit....besides....The Fudge Find. Yay! A couple of the last games to open...opened! As well, you could get some ICE CREAM, today! (o: But still not open, the Coke Freestyle/Candy Shoppe. )o: Dizzy Drop in A Drop. Bugs whirling. Best I could get for you parts geeks. Underside of the spinny cars. Didn't notice this before. Nice new TREE planters with new benches to relax on. Good going, Playland! Two Wheees! Cloudy mountains and our iconic old PNE Race Track. Nice clouds in back. Yellow Coaster train on the move. Flutterbye/Starflyer mash-up!
Nrthwnd Posted May 14, 2017 Author Posted May 14, 2017 ~ A Wet Mother's Day at Playland ~ It started raining in the morning. But by noon, things had "sort of" cleared up, so I eventually headed to the park, and check for all the wonderful moms bringing their brood to Playland, hopefully enjoying them self, too. There weren't a lot there. Many had been scared off by the "probable rainfall" predictions, that didn't really happen. But still, everything was open so I admired those moms who did make the trek out with their kids. I talked one mom into getting the Popcorn Bucket ($9cdn on first fill), and she loved the idea of $1 refills she could get for her and her kids, after this. So that felt good to do. And there's a CIRCUS coming to Playland! Actually the tent was set up in the back parking lot where eventually, Future Playland Part 2 is going. Alas, I checked, the shows are done and it's already folding up as I type this. Here's the few photos I took today.... and Happy Moms Day! to all you moms and mothers out there. Happy (wet) Mom's Day! Usual Beast Shot. Ooooo what's this? What's this? Circus coming to town, hmm? From the West Coast Wheel. I thought this would make a great button, if they made one like this. It tried and it tried, but this was the best the sky could do, and only for a very short time. Better weather next visit?... What I got so far, from the capsule machine. Two Globsters! Actually, the circus played this weekend. So the tent will be gone by next weekend. )o:
Nrthwnd Posted May 18, 2017 Author Posted May 18, 2017 HUmp Day: PlaylAnd SOuvenir Day! This is something I actually "won", over the entire Playland season, including the PNE Itself. Playing the SkeeBall arcade game, with many many quarters, earning many many prize tickets. I was impressed that I actually earned enough tickets to get this little neon "bar sign." Of course, now they offer nothing like this. All plastic toys and figures, and high end electronics which nobody earns enough for. Life. But it still works! Not too special, but I thought it was very cool to get. And I have had it for nearly 10 YEARS now! (o;
Nrthwnd Posted May 21, 2017 Author Posted May 21, 2017 Victoria Day Weekend ~ Saturday First of all, an explanation about the Canada's Stat Holiday... Victoria Day (French: Fête de la Reine) is a federal Canadian public holiday celebrated on the last Monday preceding May 25, in honour of Queen Victoria's birthday. For this year, it's May 22. And it always precedes the U.S.' Memorial Day Weekend in May. Which is the 29th, this year. For this day at Playland, I discovered two new additions to the park. Finally, a sign for Dizzy Drop showed up on the ride ops station booth. And, the "backdrop" (which is the back oif Hell's Gate) for Bug Whirled had been painted in theme with what was already there. It's actually a nice little themed attraction, compared to all the metal fenced-in rides everywhere else. Yellow train being run on Coaster, today. Great view of the mountains when it's a clear day at the park. What's this? What's this?... A ride sign! Larry, take note, lol! Not as fancy as the other two new rides, but it's a sign, nonetheless. (o: First "maintenance" casualty of the Season. AtmosFEAR down for the day. Double Wheees! Views from the West Coast Wheel. New "background" at Bug Whirled! Looks great. And Saturday's visit ends with this shot. (To be continued...)
Nrthwnd Posted May 22, 2017 Author Posted May 22, 2017 Victoria Day Weekend ~ Monday Monday is hot. Very hot today. And this is where Playland really needs to step up, about it's walkways, etc. Too - much - asphalt here. Very hot to walk on. Thankfully there were lots of shade areas to stop and rest. I took a few photos, but not that many. I think most of the crowd was at the beach today. I mean, why not? Here's what I took... Hmmm. Still down. ...And it was. Trees! Hellevator shot..... going dooooownnnn. Yellow train today. 'Round and round and round and... The wide shot from the WC Wheel Close up on "the twins." One WHEEE! for the road. And I finally got a third Globster to add to the pack. (The one with glasses on.) (o;
Nrthwnd Posted May 26, 2017 Author Posted May 26, 2017 It's Community Day tomorrow at Playland! http://www.pne.ca And note....anybody from the USA thinking Playland is open on Memorial Day.... nope. Not gonna be open. It's your stat holiday not Canada's. Just an FYI.
Nrthwnd Posted May 28, 2017 Author Posted May 28, 2017 ~ Community Day Today ~ It was hot and clear skies. It was crowded, especially with the thrill rides queues. But that was okay. Everybody looked and sounded like they were having a great day at the park. I eventually got myself the usual $1 popcorn, tried a few turns of my "current capsule machine" , and then took a few rounds on ICEBALL i.e. SkeeBall. It was fun again! And I got some coupons I can collect, and save up to the end of the season in September, if I want to, so.... hmmm. EDIT: I forgot to add, for this day, Playland takes $10 of each entry ticket sold, and puts in into an ongoing Youth Sponsorship Fund run by the PNE for many, many years now. They use it to support all activities, in sports, the arts, and even business skills. Great ongoing fund-raising they do each year. It is indeed COMMUNITY DAY today! (o: There were radio stn. tents everywhere! WTF? Whee! Between Banners. { Ye Olde Info. of Coaster } My fave part of the entire ride: "...and a classic reverse curve." That's this part of Coaster. <3 this part! They're still working on AtmosFEAR, trying to get it back in scary shape Protein spill. First of the season. Whee too! View from the bus stop, outside the park.
Nrthwnd Posted May 29, 2017 Author Posted May 29, 2017 Have a nice reflective MEMORIAL DAY today, America.
bert425 Posted May 29, 2017 Posted May 29, 2017 how close is your home to the park, Bill? seems to be a convenient distance, that you're able to go so often! Jealous -- i grew up about 2 miles from Astroworld, so was there almost every weekend (if not every day over the summer)
Nrthwnd Posted May 29, 2017 Author Posted May 29, 2017 ^ If I walk, it'll be about a 1/2 hour walk. If I take the bus, 30-40 minutes, depending on transfer. If I drive, ten minutes. (Photos were taken yesterday at the park.) Poor Bug Whirled sign. Kids were crawling all over it, so they had to "protect it." Carousel ornate-ness. Sign shot. How "temporary" are they? Ice Ball i.e. Skeeball. I'm going to get back into playing it, after the Cedar Point trip. One the way back to the car, from the park...

Nrthwnd Posted May 30, 2017 Author Posted May 30, 2017 ^ Yes, them and High Valley and Tom Cohcrane (remember his song, "Life Is A Highway" in the first "CARS"?) & Red Rider, are all Canadian.
bert425 Posted May 30, 2017 Posted May 30, 2017 ^ Yes, them and High Valley and Tom Cohcrane (remember his song, "Life Is A Highway" in the first "CARS"?) & Red Rider, are all Canadian. LOL. .I know Cochrane's song from radio, rather than "Cars" and my age is showing. .but Red Rider, I know from "Lunatic Fringe" (what. . no Loverboy????)
Nrthwnd Posted May 30, 2017 Author Posted May 30, 2017 ^ Eh. I think they've done a tour or two of The Fair in the past. But not these past several years. Maybe they finally broke up? And for the "CARS" reference, you know there are going to be a few on this site, who had no idea he was..... blonde.
Nrthwnd Posted June 11, 2017 Author Posted June 11, 2017 After Visiting OZ (Cedar Point) last weekend, it was "back to Kansas" for me... Went back to the park this weekend, after my awesome trip last weekend, to Ohio and Cedar Point park: http://www.themeparkreview.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=74913 Saturday, things felt 'off' for some reason, and I didn't stay that long. Today, however, it was overcast most of the day, but that didn't stop the crowds from coming! Much more fun today and hey.... ...even ran into KC, the park's mascot! Weekends for now; every day, eventually. Current prices. Noted! (o: Mmmmmm new wood for Coaster. This young woman was top to sneakers in pinks and purples! Oversize Adirondack Chairs, usually at the annual fair. This year it's Canada 150th Birthday, so they're here to "early advertise" the long weekend (and celebration) coming up. Poor lonely Revelation. Moon! Ready to drop. Yellow train today. Not many mountains to see, today. Foreplay... Afterplay. KC ~ I seem to be shrinking, every time I see this guy, and get a pic. Nope, no riding love today. What I would like to get on Ice Ball. (Record at this machine) What I actually got, on my 5th game. But I still got me some prize tix! Right above me. omg A full arcade game! Not seen this off season, in some time. Great to see. Grabbed a dollar popcorn refill to take home with me. Got a new Coaster On-ride Pic! With a new photo holder too. And me, with my new COASTERMANIA! t-shirt on, from last weekend at Cedar Point.

Nrthwnd Posted June 18, 2017 Author Posted June 18, 2017 Fathers Day Weekend ~ Sunday The skies were more overcast today, and it did rain a light drizzle, from time to time.
