griffon
Special Event or not, this is really good to hear. If KD can bring in bigger crowds than they have the last 10-12 years, it will be even more of a reason for Cedar Fair to keep building. The future is much brighter now than it was with Paramount, I'm really confused as to why anyone would complain.
KDCOASTERFAN
I have a few friends that work there and from what I gathered, Saturday, without the special event, raked in about close to 30,000. Something tells me that with gas prices being what they are, this isn't the last of big days for KD. I was kinda hoping that with the high gas prices it will keep the traffic on I-95 south down for a change. The last couple trips we've made in 06 & 07 I-95 south was a virtual parking lot from Manassas to Fredericksburg & believe me Route 1 was no better. pkd freak
Some of my friends were already up there, and they told me the park was really packed, and they had to park in some kind of field. I was like, "WHOA"!!! So me and my girlfriend arrived to the park around 3 4ish. There was a sign saying "PARK IS CROWDED". So I talked a little to one of the parking attendants, She stated they were expecting around 30,000 to 40,000 guests. I asked her, where in the world are we suppose to park, "You just have to find a park somewhere", so luckily someone was pulling out near the front. As we walked to the front gate, every line was opened, but they were pretty fast. I've never seen KD this packed since they use to have BET College Day. We didn't even go towards Dominator, as I knew it was going to be really crowded over there. So we went towards Old Virginia, I couldn't believe how long the Log Flume line was, It was almost spilling out the Q... I would say the line was about a 45 min wait. We waited in for the Eagles, as this wait was about 30-45 mins long, but I think it was well worth, one of my favorite flats at the park. After the Eagles, we headed towards the Grove, CROWDS EVERYWHERE, it was so packed... we were all almost touching shoulders. Since my girl never been to WW, I wanted to show her around, so we walked down the path, GATES were closed with security in front. WW was full to capacity, and was not letting anyone else in, I couldn't believe my eyes!!!! So we decided to grab something to eat, that was a no no, we just couldn't grab, we had to WAIT... As we went to Victoria's Pizza, the wait was about an hour long... I was SOOO drained by this time. So after that we walked around some more then rode Dodgem, wait was about 30 min, and this was our 2nd and last ride for the evening. We went over to Congo, OOHH MANN!!! the observation area for the Crypt was sooo full... there was nowhere to sit.. We were just ready to go. Even though that was a draining day, I'm glad to see KD hit their numbers, we really needed that (as this was BOA day, and they selling $15 tickets to the public) CONGRATS KD!!!!!!! KDCOASTERFAN
It's obviously no wonder why my local Giant food is all OUT of adult tickets, they even removed the little Dominator display cases that were over by the registers when I went looking for it yesterday.Looks like I'll be standing at the ticket window to get mine while the rest in their group already has theirs. KD must be doing something right for the attendance to be so high, this is the first time I've ever heard that they had to turn folks away from WW because it was filled to capacity, not to mention a full parking lot. ginzo
Anyway, I remember working at KI for Procter and Gamble day, so I feel for the workers, as the public is far better to deal with than the crowds that come out for company events. They always seem to feel that they can do whatever they want because they're company bought out the park... Think that might be a P&G-specific thing. The arrogance of their employees is legendary. People call 'em "Procter and God". They're pretty much convinced that they own this town. I mean they're a great company and all, but they do seem a bit cult-like at times. palmerleeberry
WOW WE WOW WOW WOW!!! I'm thrilled to death to hear that Kings Dominion had a record breaking day, just like I'm glad that I didn't attend that day (and I have a season pass). But if I did show up that day, it would have felt like that time I attended Cedar Point during their Hallo-Fest in 2004. Let me tell you, I've never ever been to such a crowded park. "The park was so crowded, there were lines for everything. You had to go in line if you wanted to take a breath of air!"

Finally my local Giant food got in a fresh shipment of gift cards today so I managed to snag one for my upcoming trip on the 26th...Dominator here I come!! KD's performance definitely sends the message to CF's top brass that this IS a park worthy of future investments & is no GL.Rumors are already going around on some sites about a possible big addition to the park for 2010,I'm thinking B&M hyper here.
