Ride restrictions with a broken arm at WDW?

My sister-in-law's friend is going to WDW this weekend, but one of the kids has a broken arm in a cast. She wanted to know if any of the rides or attractions had restrictions on broken arms or casts.

 

Obviously, the shows that walk-through attractions would not have any restrictions. Slow-moving rides like IASW or POTC should be OK too. My concerns would be with the roller coasters. Can you ride the coasters with a broken arm? I would think the over the shoulder restraints on Rock N Roller Coaster might prove a problem if the arm was in a sling.

Okay, I'm just talking from nearly thirty years of riding experiences under my belt, but I'm sure that each ride would have a restriction notice (reading that this ride isn't recommended for guest who are pregnant, have a history of heart disease, if you had a recent surgery or illness, etc), and this fact is also true at Walt Disney World.

 

On many of the attractions they have, your sister-in-law could be in a full body cast and still enjoy them. But as for the coasters themselves, she may not be allowed on. Still, I would check with the line attendant to see whether or not her arm cast would prevent her from riding.

 

Regardless of the outcomes, I hope you and your sister-in-law enjoy yourselves at WDW!!!

A cast is one thing, a sling is another. If it is a forearm cast, she shouldn't have many problems, but if it encompasses the elbow, or must be contained within a sling, she might have problems with OTSR's.

What type of cast is this? Forearm, whole arm? Freedom points of movement, bendable @ elbow? Agreed forearm is not a problem but if you have to have the sling that could be a problem even with a small cast.

 

Also if this is still a pretty recent brake I would suggest avoiding any coasters or other rides which cause strong forces or hard vibrations. Broken arm sucks, having to have it re broken to heal right sucks even more. When in doubt have the person verify with the doctor before a ride op clears them for entrance!

 

Good operators judge by the type of cast and if it hinders the rider from safely securing themselves in and during the ride. (Parks work more on a visual assessment based on the company's core rule set.) OTSR might be a problem at Rock N. Others should be ok again depending on the type of cast, etc. The sling part could possibly limit even TOT although. Just depends.

 

Tell me exactly what kind of cast/location of/setup and I will ask for you. A very close person I know writes the procedures for operations and I needed to call her anyways, she should know.

At Knott's berry farm you aren't allowed on turbulent rides with any time of cast at all.

 

I assume this would be the same for Disney, but who knows. Unlike other people are saying, it's not that you can't ride ride because it's awkward, you can't ride because your freaking arm is broken. They don't care how long you've had it on either.

 

I had a full arm cast, and I was down there for family. Silver Bullet had just opened and I was really upset, but once I put a jacket on I was fine....

Do what I did at Buffalo Bill's in Primm on Desperado...wear a hockey jersey and make sure it covers the cast and then sneak on and don't put your arms up during the photo op!!
