sfmmrules! Posted January 17, 2008 Posted January 17, 2008 I am planning my first time ever trip to Cedar Point this summer & I have a couple questions. 1. Is end of July crowded during the week? 2. I know if you stay at a Cedar Point hotel you get an extra hour before the park opens. Is there a lot of people duing that extra hour & how many rides on the coasters that are open can you get in? 3. What coasters have ride pictures? The only time I can go is end of July. I'm really looking forward to it, but I'm concerned about two things: The crowds & the rain.
Tanks4me05 Posted January 18, 2008 Posted January 18, 2008 I go during the end of June to most major parks (this time beginning of next July) so I can't say anything about the end of July, but I'm assuming that the weekday shouldn't be too bad. The morning ERT as it basically is, it is reserved for hotel guests only. Two coasters are open, which I assume they will probably be Maverick and MF. I'm not sure how much lines they will get because frankly I haven't been there since 2004, but when I went there, I sprinted from the Hotel Breakers and then walked the last half of the way there, and rode it with only a half hour line. I got back in line right after I got off the ride and it swelled to a 90 minute wait. Maverick, I have no idea what the lines could be as I haven't been there since Castaway Bay was under construction. The major coasters - Mantis, TTD, MF, Magnum, Raptor, Mantis, and Mean Streak have on ride photos (once again, I can't say anything for Maverick, yet) and the "minor coasters" - Iron Dragon, Wildcat, Blue Streak, Gemini, Cedar Creek Mine Ride, Gemini Jr. Corkscrew, and Disaster Transport - and I think Wicked Twister as well) might not have on ride photos. Since I went before the "drizzle" policy had been enacted, I do not know what will happen.
Carnage Posted January 18, 2008 Posted January 18, 2008 The only time I can go is end of July. I'm really looking forward to it, but I'm concerned about two things: The crowds & the rain. You shouldn't really be concerned about rain at the end of July. It's the killer heat and humidity that you should be worried about. And yes, at the end of July it will be busy. That's peak season. Obviously going midweek is going to be better then the weekend, but it's still going to be somewhat busy. You're probably not going to walk into a nearly empty park. It's likely that you'll encounter 1-1.5+ hours for the major rides like MF, Maverick, and dragster. And .5-1 hour for the other rides. Hotel ERT will typically have 2-3 rides open. It'll probably be enough time to get a handful of rides in. Which will probably be better then you'll encounter during the day. Though what ride is open will determine that. Like if they have Raptor, MF, and Maverick open. MF and Maverick will have decent sized lines, but Raptor might be a walk on. Or at least that's my experience with hotel ERT. But I only go in the spring and fall. I try not to go to parks in July.
coolhandluke Posted January 19, 2008 Posted January 19, 2008 Well, last year I went to Cedar Point with a friend in late July. We went up when his work schedule allowed--a weekend (the 27, 28, & 29). Saturday was our only day at the park, and we had no ERT. Thanks to the notes I wrote on my phone, I can recall our day: Top Thrill Dragster--10-min wait (jogged there from the holding area for non-ERT ppl when the park opened) Magnum--Walk-on Gemini--Walk-on Mean Streak--3 minutes (1 hour in the park while walking to Skyhawk) Skyhawk--13 min Millennium Force--1 hr, 15 min Iron Dragon--10 min Corkscrew--16 min Maxair--20 min Wicked Twister--23 min Raptor--1 hour Mantis--50 min Maverick--1 hr 15 min Maxair #2--16 min Raptor #2--30 min Millennium #2 (front row @ night)--1 hr 30 min Raptor #3--5 min, last train to go in the park for the day So that was our 85-degree, sunny Saturday in late July. And in regards t photos, the following have photos: Top Thrill (2 pics), Maverick (2 pics), Millennium, Magnum, Mantis, and Mean Streak. Raptor does not have a photo--it has a VIDEO of the ride for purchase. Hope this helps!
eBen Posted January 23, 2008 Posted January 23, 2008 Will the second week in August be the same crowds and weather wise as the end of July? I would consider it a wasted opportunity to have to change flights at Cleveland for the mini trip. Although if I don't get to go the I can chose a less manic time of year. I also see it as urgent to go incase the rumors are true that they will soon hack away at the coasters after winning the current war! Or worse if Demon Drop is no longer available.
SharkTums Posted January 23, 2008 Posted January 23, 2008 ^It will be slightly less busy the 2nd week of August than the end of July.
sfmmrules! Posted February 22, 2008 Author Posted February 22, 2008 I'm going in early August instead of end of July - during the middle of the week. Can you walk to the park from the Sandcastle Suites? If not how long does the shuttle take?
Groteslurf Posted February 22, 2008 Posted February 22, 2008 Does anyone has an idea how the crowds will be on weekdays in the week before Memorial Day (so the 3rd week of May) ?
RedB Posted February 23, 2008 Posted February 23, 2008 ^^You can walk from SandCastle Suites to the back entrance by Soak City. ^Weekdays in May are the best time to go. A lot of rides (excluding MF, Maverick, and TTD) are under 15 min waits.
